The purpose of this thesis is to develop a software system simulating Turing machines using a Microsoft Windows' Interface.Developed in the 1930's by Alan Turing and Emil Post, Turing machines are defined as "abstract computers" . These machines seem able to solve all problems a modern computer can solve, however complex the problems may be. A Turing machine is a basic computational model for algorithms.The software provides a practical tool to students with a relative notion of Turing machines. The software contains introduction and general information on Turing machines that gives the beginner enough background to use the program. The user can create, modify or run Turing machines saved onto MS-DOS files. Some examples of Turing machines are preloaded. These examples give more help to the beginner.An on-line help facility is provided in order to direct and inform the learning student at each level of the software.The Microsoft Windows' Interface makes the software easy and friendly to use. A controller area network simulation application program for Microsoft Windows

My thesis is to design a Controlled Area Network (CAN) simulator For Microsoft Windows. In a modern world we deal with complex mechanical systems that require special electronic control to guarantee ultimate safety and efficiency. These electronic control systems are responsible for monitoring subsystems within the mechanical systems. A good example of this is the motor vehicles that are being driven on the road today. These vehicles have been designed with increased safety and efficiency, such as electronic controlled anti lock breaks, fuel injection, and power control steering. To run all of these components, the car needs a very well designed protocol to be able to control series of messages being passed from one subsystem to another. To determine which message being passed has higher priority than any other messages. To deal with such circumstances, the Controlled Area Network (CAN) was designed. The purpose of the CAN simulator is to gather statistical information concerning the arbitration, message transfer, error detection, error signaling, and retransmision. The CAN simulating model will consist of one to sixty nodes. Each node is considered as a subsystem for the CAN simulator. The subsystems will be characterized as the breaks, engine, transmission, or any part of a car which needs to be connected to the CAN system. Each node will send one to ten messages through the CAN system. The CAN system will take the messages from the nodes and place them into an Arrival queue. Each node will have its own Arrival queue, and no nodes can have two messages on the bus at the same time. The messages will be sorted in the queues in the order of the time needed to be released onto the bus. There will be an internal clock that will monitor the time for when the messages are needed to be placed onto the bus. If there is a situation where two messages need to be sent at the same time, the arbitrator will determine the priority of the messages to be placed onto the bus. Once the message is on the bus, it will go to a transfer queue. Periodically, there will be an error signal sent with the message that will be detected by the error detection, and it will be required that the message to be retransmitted. At critical points on the simulation, statistical information will be gathered for an analyzation. Some examples of information to be analyzed are 1) verification of the simulation performance on a single node with a single message, 2) network load which is a rate of a utilized bus time to the total bus time, 3) network throughput which is a total number of messages that are transmitted per second, and 4) average response time which will be the average time taken by all messages to gain bus access.PLATFORM DESCRIPTIONThe computer to be used in this project will be an Intel Pentum 100 with 16 megs RAM, two 853 megabyte harddrive, and a 17 inch super VGA monitor. The user interface will be windows 3.1 application. The compiling language to be used will be Microsoft Visual C++. / Department of Computer Science

The hypercube is one of the most versatile and efficient networks yet discovered for parallel computation. It is well suited for both special-purpose and general-purpose tasks, and it can efficiently simulate many other networks of the same size. The size of subgraphs can be used to estimate the efficient communications of hypercube computer systems.The thesis investigates induced subgraphs of a hypercube, discusses sizes of subgraphs, and provides a formula to give bounds on the size of any subgraph of the hypercube.The concept of spanning graphs and line graphs is useful for studying properties of graphs. Towards an MPI-like Framework for Azure Cloud Platform

Message passing interface (MPI) has been widely used for implementing parallel and distributed applications. The emergence of cloud computing offers a scalable, fault-tolerant, on-demand al-ternative to traditional on-premise clusters. In this thesis, we investigate the possibility of adopt-ing the cloud platform as an alternative to conventional MPI-based solutions. We show that cloud platform can exhibit competitive performance and benefit the users of this platform with its fault-tolerant architecture and on-demand access for a robust solution. Extensive research is done to identify the difficulties of designing and implementing an MPI-like framework for Azure cloud platform. We present the details of the key components required for implementing such a framework along with our experimental results for benchmarking multiple basic operations of MPI standard implemented in the cloud and its practical application in solving well-known large-scale algorithmic problems.

Säkerhetsanalys kring användning av mobilapplikationsteknik i Kriminalvårdens klientsystem

Kriminalvården är den myndighet i Sverige som ansvarar för fängelser, häkten och frivård. Myndigheten har länge känt ett behov att inom flera verksamheter kunna få tillgång till delmängder av deras klientsystem i ett mobilt och uppkopplat format. Det största hindret i deras fall med mobilitet och applikationsteknik var säkerheten. Därför genomfördes en riskanalys med hänsyn till frivården och mobilapplikationsteknik. För att välja en lämplig och passande riskanalysmetod jämförde vi ett antal metoder. Det visade sig att metoden CORAS passade bäst. När vi väl genomfört riskanalysen med CORAS försökte vi sedan matcha åtgärderna mot de olika mobilplattformarnas egenskaper för att se hur de kan fullfölja åtgärderna. Mobilplattformarna vi undersökte var Android, Windows Phone 8 och iOS. Resultatet av riskanalysen och jämförelsen av plattformar kan ligga som grund till beslut hos Kriminalvården. / Kriminalvården is the government agency in Sweden which is responsible for prisons, jails and probation. The agency has realized a need of access to a several features of their inmate register systems from mobiles and handsets within different areas in their organization. The safety with the mobility and application technology is a comprehensive issue in this case. Therefore, a risk analysis about mobile application technology was initiated. We took the probation services into account as a concrete scenario where mobile application technology could be used. In order to select an appropriate and adequate risk analysis method, we compared a number of methods. It turned out that the method CORAS was the most suitable method. When we completed the risk analysis with CORAS, we tried to match the treatments against different mobile platforms properties to see how they can pursue the treatments. Mobile platforms we examined were Android, Windows Phone 8 and iOS. The result of the risk analysis and the comparison of mobile platforms can the agency use as a basis for further decisions.

Den här studien undersöker för- och nackdelar med att migrera existerande mobilaapplikationer till Xamarins crossplatform ramverk Xamarin Forms. Metoden somanvänts för att samla in data är inom ramen för forskningsparadigmet Design Science.En prototyp har utvecklats med syftet att undersöka vad som är möjligt att migrera tillXamarin Forms. Prototyputvecklingen har dokumenterats i loggböcker som sedananalyserats som kvalitativ data. Två intervjuer har även genomförts med andraxamarinutvecklare med syftet att nå en djupare förståelse för ämnet. Studien harproducerat ett flödesschema för när ett beslut om att migrera en existerande applikationtill Xamarin Forms bör tas. Vid beslut om migration har vi även formulerat ett antalriktlinjer som bör efterföljas för att uppnå bra resultat. Flödesschemat och riktlinjerna ärbaserade på resultaten från analysen av loggböckerna och intervjuerna. / This study investigates the pros and cons of migraiting existing mobile applications toXamarins crossplatform framework Xamarin Forms. The method that is being used tocollect data is within the scope of the research paradigm Design Science. A prototype ofan existing mobile application has been developed in order to research the possibilitiesof migraiting existing applications to Xamarin Forms. The development process of theprototype has been documented in journals which later were to be analyzed asqualitative data. Two interviews have been done with other Xamarin developers in orderto get a deeper understanding of the subject. This study produced a flowchart that is tobe used when deciding about a migration of an existing mobile application aswell asguidelines for the migration itself. The flowchart and guidelines are based on analyzingthe data from our journals aswell as our interviews with other developers.

The Effects Of Passive Solar Energy Systems On The Thermal Performance Of Residential Buildings / An Analysis Using Energy-10

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of windows and building envelope materials on the thermal performance of residential buildings, for the climatic conditions of Ankara. The effects of the thermal mass of the building envelope, together with the effects of glazing type and shading conditions of south-facing windows on thermal performance were investigated using two computer-based thermal analysis programs called: ECOTECT 5.0 and ENERGY-10. The hypothetical building model used for computer simulations was based on the sample residential building defined in the Turkish Standards on the Regulations for Building Insulation, TSE 825, as prepared by the T&uuml / rk Standartlari Enstit&uuml / s&uuml / (TSE, Turkish Standards Institute). Simulation studies were first conducted with ECOTECT 5.0, but since the results did not conform to earlier researches and, since this discrepancy could not be explained even by the support forum prepared by the authors of this software, it was decided to continue the simulations with ENERGY-10, which proved to be more consistent. The results of 240 program runs of ENERGY- 10 were explained through graphical and statistical analysis on the basis of annual heating, cooling, and total energy needs of the building model. The study showed that building envelope materials having high thermal storage capacities together with high-performance glazing, in terms of increased thermal resistance, provided significant energy savings, which could be augmented by increasing the size of south-facing windows. The study also revealed that shading devices in the form of fixed overhangs applied to a south-facing window of any size did not provide substantial reductions in the energy demands of residential buildings, when annual total energy demands were considered for the climatic conditions of Ankara.
