A Study of Safety in the Industrial Plastics Laboratories in the Secondary Schools of the Fort Worth Independent School District

Curtis, Ronald W. 08 1900 (has links)
This study was conducted in order to determine what safety practices and procedures were employed in the industrial plastics laboratories in the secondary schools of the Fort Worth Independent School District. Data were obtained from literature in the field of safety education in industrial arts and from an information form mailed to the teachers of industrial plastics in the Fort Worth Independent School District. Hazardous conditions were found to exist in a majority of the laboratories due to a lack of sufficient floor space and work stations and the absence of proper guards on machines, proper storage facilities for flammable liquids, painted danger zones and nonskid surfaces on floors around machines.

A Comparison in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex Between the State of Public Relations Education and the Views of Public School Public Information Directors and University Journalism Department Chairmen Concerning Public Relations Education

Ramsey, Patricia Kingsley 05 1900 (has links)
Data obtained through interviews with eleven directors of school public information directors and four university chairmen in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex indicated that they are generally satisfied with public relations education being housed in the journalism department, with course format, and with undergraduate study and specialization; and that they are dissatisfied with practitioner-educator relationships. Some of their recommendations included that graduatelevel study be offered more often, and that more emphasis be placed in the curriculum on specific areas of public relations, the social sciences, and the news-editing side of communications studies.

A Study of Modern Automotive Tune-Up Equipment Used in Fort Worth, Texas

Shabbot, Kadhum 08 1900 (has links)
The problem with which this investigation was concerned was that of determining the use of modern automotive tune-up equipment as used by the automotive garages in the Fort Worth area. The data for this study were provided by fifteen garages of the Fort Worth area. Of the Fort Worth garages using electronic equipment to perform a tune-up, few appear to have the adequate equipment and few appear to make more use of the equipment. In addition, a deficiency seems evident in the use of the electronic computer in performing tune-ups.

Cultural perspectives among children of Guatemalan Maya immigrants in Lake Worth, Florida

Unknown Date (has links)
Every day children of Guatemalan Maya immigrants balance two cultures. They reside in The United States and attend American schools but are being raised by their Guatemalan Maya parents. They continually navigate between the two and are faced with challenges daily. Since these children are influenced by two cultures, my interest was primarily on the cultural perspectives of these children, more specifically: what effects does the new culture have on the old? Through volunteering at a Guatemalan Maya after-school program, interviewing and administering the Children's Apperception Test, results showed these children to be influenced by American culture. The biggest indicator, play, was reported to be an important aspect in their lives, which is not considered essential in Maya culture. At the same time, these children keep close ties to their cultural heritage through their strong family ties. Overall, these children are influenced by American culture, but at the same time, keep their heritage. / by Tara Sprague. / Thesis (M.A.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2012. / Includes bibliography. / Electronic reproduction. Social Drama at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary : The Dilday Controversy

Drake, Webster F. (Webster Ford) 12 1900 (has links)
This study examines the events surrounding the firing of Russell Dilday at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary as a social drama. The results suggest that, for application to post-industrial cultures, adaptations need to be made to Victor Turner's original method. The addition of Thomas Farrell's anticipation phase, identification of the breach with the transgression, and examination of unique facets of post-industrial cultures such as economic factors and the role of the media are recommended modifications. In light of these differences, the study concludes that the state of affairs at Southwestern is characteristic of schism in a post-industrial culture.

台灣退休金制度與年金保險之金錢價值與所得替代率探討

張勝忠 Unknown Date (has links)
Owing to the improvement of medical technology and living standard, the average life of human is extending and the structure of population is aging. It makes people to worry about the financial soundness of future life. This paper has following two objectives. First, we construct a evaluation model of pension value by using money's worth ratio and replacement rate. Second, we compare the money's worth ratio and replacement rates of different pension plans and annuities between different individuals. We use the empirical data from 1977 to 2001 in Taiwan for this study. We calculate the money's worth ratio and replacement rate of different pension plans and annuities and analyze the cash flow of them by using the simulated method. We also compare the money's worth ratio of annuities and replacement rate of pension plans between Taiwan, and the other countries, such as Australia, and Canada, and analyze the reasons causing these differences. The empirical results are as follow. First, the money's worth ratio of pension plan is higher than that of the commercial annuity in Taiwan. Second, in commercial annuity, the money's worth ratio of male is higher than that of the female. Third, the money's worth ratio of immediate annuity is higher than that of the deferred annuity about 10% because of the expense loading. Fourth, the money's worth ratio of domestic or overseas annuities is between 90% and 98%. It means the loadings of them are not much difference. Fifth, the public officers have sufficient pension annuity, whereas the laborers have insufficient pension annuity. Finally, from the comparison of replacement rates of between Taiwan and other countries, we find that replacement rate of laborers in both private pension and public pension are insufficient except for the public officers.

Analyse de la coexistence d'organisations non lucratives, lucratives et publiques dans le secteur des maisons de repos : une approche par les logiques de qualité/Analysis of the coexistence between nonprofit, for-profit and governmental organizations in the nursing home industry : an approach through the logics of quality

Provost, Anne-Catherine 24 June 2002 (has links)
This research has been dedicated to the specificities of nonprofit organizations (NPO) when competing with for-profit (FPO) and governmental (GO) organizations in the same industry. The first part of this study consists of a review of the literature on economic theories of NPO's (Hansmann, 1987) along with a critical study based on the analytic scheme proposed by Olivier Favereau (1989). The economic literature is rich in theories explaining the existence of NPO's. Nevertheless, these theories are unable to explain the reasons for their coexistence with FPO's and GO's. As a matter of fact, most of these theories are founded on a classical paradigm based on a concept of substantive rationality, which can only explain the predominance of a type of organization in a specific sector. Therefore, in order to reach a satisfactory explanation of the coexistence of various organizational forms, our study has been rooted in a new paradigm, named the Theory of conventions (Lewis, 1961; Orléan, 1994), based on a procedural concept of rationality. More specifically, our study has been grounded on the approach elaborated by Boltanski and Thévenot (1987, 1991). The so-called model of the “Economics of Worth” (“les Economies de la Grandeur”), explaining how and why various principles of justification (e.g., domestic, civic, industrial, or merchant) may be invoked by individuals and groups in order to express their divergences in some process requiring coordination, as well as to justify the course of actions they have been adopting. This approach is centered on "conventions" as a way of understanding the interaction of social actors, be they individuals or organizations. This theory allows us to apprehend and operationalize in a multifaceted or multidimensional way the concept of the quality of service provided by a sector of activity. The second part of our research consists in the implementation of the developed model in a chosen sector, the nursing home industry, through selective case studies. Our empirical study firstly consists of the identification of the different "logics of quality" of services present or absent in several nursing homes with different legal statuses (NPO, FPO or GO). It then analyzes the specific tensions and compromises achieved within each nursing home under study as well as the role played by their statuses, keeping in mind that our basic hypothesis is that every legal status will induce a specific compromise between various "worlds" of justification.

Systematisk arbetsvärdering : ett lönesättningsinstrument i närbild / Systematic job evaluation : A review of a wage-determination instrument

Ericsson, Thomas January 1991 (has links)
The subject of the thesis is systematic job evaluation for purposes of local wage determination for blue-collar jobs within the Swedish industry. The method is examined from a general wage-determination as well as from a gender equality perspective. The thesis is based on e.g. documents from the parties, on interviews with representatives of employers and unions at the central and local level, and on interviews with persons participating in job evaluation work in some companies. An analysis is made of one of the most common job evaluation systems, including the changes it has undergone since the 1950s. The use of a job evaluation system implies that a linkage is made between /certain/job demands and wages. It also means that this linkage is made in a systematic way. Systematics might, in its turn, imply consistency, rigidity and explicity. The thesis examines the significance of a linkage demands-wages and of consistency, rigidity and explicity for the parties' attitudes towards the method; as a purpose or as a means to achieve other goals. It demonstrates that the employers' problems to recruit labour and a desire for an increased wage differentiation has constituted a major reason for using the systems. The job evaluation system examined does not consider, or gives low weight to, certain demands which are common in female-dominated jobs. Various circumstances in the evaluation work process which provide it with scope for consideration are identified. This scope for consideration may disfavour female-dominated jobs. The thesis claims that the scope for consideration yet is less than in an unsystematic overall assessment of différencies in job demands between various jobs. A completed systematic job evaluation offers a basis for speaking of "work of equal value" in the sense of the Swedish Equal Opportunities Act, and forces the employer to explain possible différencies in the terms of employment when the points allotted are equal. It is unclear whether the court has to accept the application of the system made by the parties, or whether it could make its own evaluation with the same system. So far, no case concerning work of equal value has been settled in court. /
Diss. Umeå : Univ., 1991
/ digitalisering@umu
