Esse trabalho tem como objetivo discutir filmes em que a realidade é vista como um conceito subjetivo de tempo e espaço. A linguagem cinematográfica pode dar luz a uma realidade múltipla, a estrutura em abismo é um meio para isso. As Horas, Espelho e Sans Soleil, três filmes de diferentes épocas e estilos, nos permitirão analisar esse tipo de narrativa com múltiplos níveis de realidade e perceber como nuances predominantemente abstratas encontram corpo na tela de cinema. / This paper aims to discuss feature films in which reality is viewed as a subjective concept of time and space. The cinematographic language is able to show a multiple reality, the mis en abyme is a way for that. The Hours, Mirror and Sans Soleil, three films from different generations and styles, allow us to analyze this type of narrative with multiple levels of reality and realize how hues predominantly abstract could reach the screen.

Encountering the abyss : deconstructing the political philosophy of Leo Strauss and the Straussian interventions relating to the invasion of IraqHirst, Agnes January 2010 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the figure of an abyss residing at the heart of metaphysics, and argues that thinking in light of its destabilising connotations opens up the possibility of attempting to take responsibility for the violence immanent to any and all politico-philosophical positions. It argues that this abyss represents a void or lack always already underpinning the attempt to posit universal or essential premises, and that it is precisely this lack which may be mobilised to unsettle the totalising claims of ontology. It demonstrates that the abyss occupies a central space in the political philosophy of Leo Strauss and Jacques Derrida, positing that the attempt to secure against it, qua Strauss, precludes the possibility of gesturing towards the taking of responsibility for the violence inherent to politico-philosophical projects. It traces the ethico-political implications of this response through a series of interventions enacted by eight followers of Strauss surrounding the recent Bush administration in the spheres of intelligence production, think tanks, and the media in the context of the 2003 invasion of Iraq, arguing that this securitising logic reflects an ontological totalisation which underpins the totalising politics they propound. It then shows that operating in light of the implications of the abyss, following Derrida, creates a space within which the imposition of totalising ontological claims may be resisted. Mobilising a conceptualisation of 'Deconstruction and/as Resistance', it exposes three assumptions underpinning the Straussian response, the Schmittean friend/enemy binary, the notion of the 'regime', specifically in terms of the opposition of 'tyranny' and democracy residing at its core, and the concept of justice as amounting to the 'reason of the strongest'. It is the intention of this thesis to call for an endless resistance to the imposition of totalising narratives and principles in the hope that the violence of these may be subverted, and the violence which inheres in any and all projects be taken responsibility for.

Nietzschean epistemology involved many subversive elements and, thus, posed a challenge to the Christian epistemology and to other traditional frames of references which appeared after the Enlightenment. With his philosophy Nietzsche problematised many of the traditional givens like the master signifier (God), the other organising principles, and the traditional binary oppositions on which the Western metaphysics was based. He shattered the previous parameters of existence irraparably when he disconnected the individual from his/her illusions by laying bare a decentered universe devoid of any form of meaning, and the result was nihilism in the beginning. Interestingly enough, Nietzschean epistemology also offered ways to overcome this nihilistic stage in an individual&rsquo / s struggle for a
meaningful existence. This thesis is based on the analysis of two plays by Tom Murphy, &ldquo / Bailegangaire&rdquo / and &ldquo / The Sanctuary Lamp&rdquo / , against the background of Nietzschean philosophy and attempts to discover the parallelisms between Murphy&rsquo / s characters and Nietzschean elements in their search for the essence of existence and their desire for a meaningful life. In the plays, self-realisation of an individual, that is, overcoming nihilism, is mainly achieved by means of art and one&rsquo / s individual strength, which is characterised by the ability to endure abyss, affirm life as it is, forget and forgive one&rsquo / s enemies, follow instincts, employ one&rsquo / s will to power, acquire the power and the position of God in one&rsquo / s personal zone, and combine destruction and creation. The playwright conveys an individual&rsquo / s loss of purpose and the inevitable chaos in the aftermath of the death of God and, also, the methods to surmount this nihilistic condition. The study comes to the conclusion that all the above Nietzschean elements build a solid background for Murphy&rsquo / s drama, where the dramatist draws a picture of systematicity of existence of an individual who struggles to attain meaning.

Transcriptomic analysis of Douglas-fir megagametophyte development and abortionBoyes, Ian 30 August 2013 (has links)
Douglas-fir develops a megagametophyte regardless of the pollination state of the
ovule, whereas many other conifers develop a megagametophye in response to polli-
nation. Megagametophytes in unfertilized ovules degrade two weeks following fertil-
ization of the surrounding population. This is mediated by programmed cell death
(PCD). Pollinated and unpollinated megagametophytes were dissected from Douglas-
fir cones and extracted for RNA, which was then used as input for sequencing. A
transcriptome was assembled from this data and expression levels were calculated.
The data were fitted to quadratic regressions to produce coexpression groups. There
is no clear upregulation of PCD effectors in the unpollinated megagametophyte. Po-
tential regulators of megagametophyte fate are present in the data. Some are as-
sociated with ABA signalling and proanthocyanadin biosynthesis while others share
similarity to known regulators of PCD. Seed development processes are represented in the expression data, which support current knowledge of conifer seed development

Into the Abyss™ : Toward an understanding of sexual technologies as co-actors in techno-social networksMoyerbrailean, Anne January 2018 (has links)
Much has been written recently in mainstream media about sex robots. However, due to the recent developments in this area of robotic and AI technologies, few academics have critically addressed these humanoid sexual technologies through the frameworks provided by Feminist Technoscience Studies. Through utilizing this critical lens, this thesis works with the tools of becoming-with (Haraway 2004a) and intra-action (Barad 2003) to explore the ways in which sexual technologies manufactured by American company Abyss Creations are co-actors in complicated material-semiotic networks. In line with Haraway (2004a) and Barad (2003), this thesis argues that realities are made through ongoing material-discursive practices, practices which are intra-actions of desire, bacteria, companionship, synthetic cognitive algorithms, capitalism, app programing, Wikipedia, and robo-human becoming-with and becoming-without. It is through these webs of becoming-with and –without that these technologies exhibit relational agency. This thesis argues to view Abyss Creation’s sex robots in a framework of relational co-construction is to begin improving our understandings of the complicated ways in which humans, nonhumans, technology, systems, and forces are co-actors in techno-social networks.
