The current study aims to investigate the source(s)of cross linguistic influence(CLI)on the production of future encoding strategies by L1 Cantonese learners of L3 Swedish who speak L2 English. In the literature of third language acquisition (TLA) research, the language status of native and non-native languages as well as genetic and (psycho)typological language distance are identified to be important to TLA processes but the current knowledge is insufficient to inform which factor(s) is/are more influential. Given the close genetic distance between English and Swedish and the status of English as a second language, it is hypothesized that CLI on L3 Swedish comes from L2 English rather than L1 Cantonese. Any confirmation or rejection to this hypothesis serves to inform the relationship of language status and language distance to TLA. To test this hypothesis, linguistic background questionnaire and a picture elicitation task are designed to record the production of future ideas in the three languages. Through qualitative and quantitative analyses, mixed sources of CLI from Cantonese and English are identified. An equidistance representation of non-native languages is also identified in which non-native English and Swedish respectively show similar degree of cross linguistic matching in relation to native Cantonese regardless which of them is the principal source of CLI. The hypothesis of differentiation of linguistic representation in the minds of polyglots is therefore proposed and further verification and investigation is required. / published_or_final_version / Linguistics / Master / Master of Arts

Current research has identified various cases of gender difference in perception and adoption of technology in general and language learners’ use of technology for second language learning. To understand these differences, this study investigated the use of technology out-of-class to enhance their second language learning of the students in a Chinese high school in Chengdu, Sichuan. It was showed that males and females have some differences in using technology for affection regulation, technology for culture regulation, technology for metacognition regulation and technology for resource regulation. In addition, this study unraveled the factor of family background that influenced students’ perception and selective use of technology in second language learning. / published_or_final_version / Education / Master / Master of Education

Data archiving, which has been traditionally supplied via dedicated standalone hardware, is not exempt to this demand, but in many ways has not kept up with other instrumentation components in terms of flexibility, size, density and price. The archiving capabilities of a data acquisition system must be able to meet the changing needs of the customer. This paper presents a Solid State Drive (SSD) based data recorder implementation that can be easily reconfigured to address the requirements of different applications, including traditional PCM based systems and contemporary network based systems. The paper identifies the requirements, design challenges, trade-offs and risks in creating a low-cost, flexible data archiving subsystem that can be used in a standalone configuration or be directly integrated with a host data acquisition system.

併購已經成為企業長期發展壯大的最重要途徑。企業從事併購是為了構築、強化和拓展核心能力，而核心能力是企業在瞬息萬變的市場環境中能以明顯的競爭優勢持續經營的保證。 本文探討個案通信科技公司所實行成功與失敗併購的因素，公司如果選對了發展方向，就能以較小的投入，獲得較大報酬，並能得以持續的高速發展。個案公司的優勢在於資本運作與整合，劣勢在於從未涉足的行業與地區。如何利用優勢、規避劣勢、充分利用被整合的資源，是個案公司併購關鍵所在。 本文共分四部分：第一部分介紹本文研究的背景和目的；第二部分透過國內外大量豐富的文獻了解企業併購的意義，包括企業併購的含義及其動因，以及併購成功與失敗的原因；第三部分介紹研究方法；第四部分介紹兩個併購案例，一個成功一個失敗，分析了導致企業併購成功與失敗的原因；並提出了防止企業併購失敗的對策。充分瞭解導致併購成功與失敗的原因及有針對性的採取措施去防止併購的失敗，對每一個有此意向的企業都是至關重要的。 / M&A has become one of the most important strategy for enterprise longtime development. By restructuring resource and competence of two enterprises, the core competence will be cultivated and intensified. At the premise of longtime management of enterprise, the purpose of M&A is to construct, intensify and extent core competence. This study gives a complete look back on the successful and failed merger cases of a communication technology company. If the company has chosen the right direction, it can gain a larger repayment by smaller input, also, it can achieve a continuous and rapid development. The advantage of case company is the operation and combination of capital, the disadvantage is that case company has never set foot on that industry and geographic area before. The paper consists of four parts: the first part is to introduce the background, purpose of this paper; the second, through sufficient literature review to expose the current situation of merger and acquisition, including its meanings, causes and factors of success and failure; the third, research method used; the fourth: introduce two cases, one for successful another for failure. We analyze the causes of success and failure and provide the suggestions against the failure. It is very important to learn the causes of failure fully and take effective measures against the failure.
