Exploring algorithms to score control points in metrogaine events

Van Hoepen, Wilhelmina Adriana 02 1900 (has links)
Metrogaining is an urban outdoor navigational sport that uses a street map to which scored control points have been added. The objective is to collect maximum score points within a set time by visiting a subset of the scored control points. There is currently no metrogaining scoring standard, only guidelines on how to allocate scores. Accordingly, scoring approaches were explored to create new score sets by using scoring algorithms based on a simple relationship between the score of, and the number of visits to a control point. A spread model, which was developed to evaluate the score sets, generated a range of routes by solving a range of orienteering problems, which belongs to the class of NP-hard combinatorial optimisation problems. From these generated routes, the control point visit frequencies of each control point were determined. Using the visit frequencies, test statistics were subsequently adapted to test the goodness of scoring for each score set. The ndings indicate that the score-visits relationship is not a simple one, as the number of visits to a control point is not only dependent on its score, but also on the scores of the surrounding control points. As a result, the scoring algorithms explored were unable to cope with the complex scoring process uncovered. / Decision Sciences / M. Sc. (Operations Research)

Pohledávky v konkrétní obchodní společnosti / Debts in a concrete business company

PADĚLKOVÁ, Olga January 2009 (has links)
The goal of this thesis is the individual types of debts characteristic including their control, posting and taxation incidence in a concrete business company. The thesis is divided into some separate chapters. In the first chapter there is described the selected business company making in a branch of production and trade. The second chapter refers to debts posting including tax aspects. It is concentrated on accounting transaction, that are accounted differently in the company by posting said in the theoretical part of the thesis or that occur extra here. From tax aspects it is mentioned not only their posting but also the way and amount of the creation of adjusting items to overdue outstanding debts and write-off. It is also said their impact on economic result and tax base in 2008 here. The last chapter engages debts control. First it is made financial analysis of debts, time test and Marko analysis. Later on it is described the current system of debts control related to business conditions, customers information, safety instruments and recovery of debts.

Hotlinks and dictionaries

Douieb, Karim 29 September 2008 (has links)
Knowledge has always been a decisive factor of humankind's social evolutions. Collecting the world's knowledge is one of the greatest challenges of our civilization. Knowledge involves the use of information but information is not knowledge. It is a way of acquiring and understanding information. Improving the visibility and the accessibility of information requires to organize it efficiently. This thesis focuses on this general purpose.

A fundamental objective of computer science is to store and retrieve information efficiently. This is known as the dictionary problem. A dictionary asks for a data structure which allows essentially the search operation. In general, information that is important and popular at a given time has to be accessed faster than less relevant information. This can be achieved by dynamically managing the data structure periodically such that relevant information is located closer from the search starting point. The second part of this thesis is devoted to the development and the understanding of self-adjusting dictionaries in various models of computation. In particular, we focus our attention on dictionaries which do not have any knowledge of the future accesses. Those dictionaries have to auto-adapt themselves to be competitive with dictionaries specifically tuned for a given access sequence.

This approach, which transforms the information structure, is not always feasible. Reasons can be that the structure is based on the semantic of the information such as categorization. In this context, the search procedure is linked to the structure itself and modifying the structure will affect how a search is performed. A solution developed to improve search in static structure is the hotlink assignment. It is a way to enhance a structure without altering its original design. This approach speeds up the search by creating shortcuts in the structure. The first part of this thesis is devoted to this approach. / Doctorat en Sciences / info:eu-repo/semantics/nonPublished

Oscilátory generující nekonvenční signály / Unconventional Signals Oscillators

Hruboš, Zdeněk January 2016 (has links)
Dizertační práce se zabývá elektronicky nastavitelnými oscilátory, studiem nelineárních vlastností spojených s použitými aktivními prvky a posouzením možnosti vzniku chaotického signálu v harmonických oscilátorech. Jednotlivé příklady vzniku podivných atraktorů jsou detailně diskutovány. V doktorské práci je dále prezentováno modelování reálných fyzikálních a biologických systémů vykazujících chaotické chování pomocí analogových elektronických obvodů a moderních aktivních prvků (OTA, MO-OTA, CCII ±, DVCC ±, atd.), včetně experimentálního ověření navržených struktur. Další část práce se zabývá možnostmi v oblasti analogově – digitální syntézy nelineárních dynamických systémů, studiem změny matematických modelů a odpovídajícím řešením.

The experiences and challenges of economic migrants from Zimbabwe in relocating and adjusting in South Africa : a social work perspective

Dube, Serbia 02 1900 (has links)
In the past decade Zimbabwe has experienced serious economic and political challenges, forcing many to flee in search of better employment opportunities and lifestyles. This research, conducted in Tshwane Gauteng, aimed to gain an in-depth understanding of Zimbabwean economic migrants’ experiences and challenges in relocating and adjusting in South Africa. Employing a qualitative approach, semi-structured face-to-face interviews were conducted to collect data which were analysed using Tesch’s framework (in Creswell, 2009:186). The ethical considerations of informed consent, anonymity and confidentiality, debriefing, guidelines for dealing with research data and record management, and honesty with professional colleagues were applied in the research. The research confirms that most Zimbabweans relocated to South Africa for economic reasons and their social and family situations were affected. Challenges were experienced with government officials, in terms of employment, accommodation, education, health services, travelling and with banking institutions. Language barriers and differences in cultural beliefs and values impacted negatively on participants’ socialisation and adjustment. The research shows an alarming lack of social work visibility. The researcher recommends that social work should accept that economic migrants are part of their clientele / Social Work / M.S.W. (Social Work)
