A Comparison of the Pulmonary Function of Older Endurance Athletes with Age-Matched Sedentary Controls

Buras, James Carroll 17 December 2004 (has links)
Purpose: To compare the pulmonary function of older runners with non-runners and also the population norms. Method: 40 males ages 45 to 65 were compared for respiratory muscle strength, spirometry and maximum voluntary ventilation. Univariate and multivariate analysis (p < 0.05) were used to determine differences Results: No significant differences in age, height, or respiratory muscle strength were found. A significant difference was found for weight and BMI with the non-runners having greater values. The dependent variables of FVC, FEV1, FEF25-75%, PEF, and MVV resulted in a significant difference with the runners having greater values. A significant difference was also found for pulmonary function between runners and the general population. Conclusion: Continued and habitual aerobic exercise in the form of running in 45 to 65 year old men resulted in pulmonary function values that were significantly greater than those of the non-runners and also greater than population norms.

In the theoretical part the characteristic of aerobics is introduced, its effect on human health, and particular types of aerobics, including racing. In conclusion of the theoretical part basic steps of aerobics are described. In addition, there is also English terminology and explanation of teaching methods that are used in aerobics classes. The practical part is devoted to the learning DVD. The introduction describes the preparation for filming, followed by a transcript of choreography and stretching exercises that are used in the video, and also instructions on how to start with an exercise and what to avoid. The conclusion of the practical part is focused on a review of the DVD. The evaluation was carried out using a questionnaire survey, which was attended by a total of 60 respondents. It examined six different criteria that respondents assessed with grade 1 to 5. Overall, the DVD was evaluated by 61,7% respondents as...

Výuka aerobiku na 1. stupni ZŠ / Teaching Aerobics at Elementary School

Moskalievová, Lucie January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this thesis was to capture the readiness of elementary school teachers in regards to aerobics. I came to a conclusion in my research that aerobic is not included into physical education classes enough, as teachers are not well prepared, and therefore they do not include it in their plans. This fact is rather disturbing because I am positive that the aerobics exercise would enrich students in area of aesthetics and physical skills and coordination.

Methods: The method used in this work is the description of the theoretical foundations supplemented with my own commentary. I will seek consensus in the organization and evaluation of three selected movement composition competitions in aerobics. The second method will be questioning. I will create a questionnaire which will be supplemented with interviews. Respondents will be chosen from the ranks of trainers, authors of movement compositions that are part of the contest. The third method will be the analysis of three selected competition exercises.
