Defining the Scope of Practice for Nurse Practitioners in MIAMLucero, Samantha 01 January 2017 (has links)
Minimally invasive aesthetic medicine (MIAM) is a relatively new field, which lacks a clearly defined scope of practice. The purpose of this project was to clarify the scope of practice for nurse practitioners in MIAM in California. Without a clearly defined scope of practice, nurse practitioners are unable to practice to the full extent of their license which causes them to be underutilized and face liability issues. This project sought to answer the question: What is the scope of practice of the nurse practitioner in MIAM in the state of California? The model of professional nursing practice regulation was the model used to guide this project. Sources of evidence included case law that has emerged since 1983; reviewing documents from 3 state boards of nursing; and a survey of nurse practitioners who practice in the field of MIAM. The evidence was analyzed noting themes while determining what the legal backbone is for nurse practitioner's scope of practice in California. This project found that nurse practitioners in this field keep up to date in their knowledge, educate their patients, utilize methods to maintain competency, feel support in their environment, assess and refer to others when appropriate, and teach both staff and patients evidence-based practices. It also found that standardized procedures are the legal backbone to understanding the scope of practice in California. A scope of practice was developed based on the findings of this project which was then reviewed by an expert. It is recommended that nurse practitioners utilize their resources to obtain and maintain knowledge as well as learn what the standardized procedures are in their facility. The implications for clarifying the scope of practice will serve this population to fully utilize their capabilities and practice safely, as well as help to develop this relatively new field.

Thus, entrepreneurship becomes relevant in the field of
professional activity of physicians, emerging new market opportunities into innovative specialties. In that sense, this research sought to identify characteristics, outline the attitudes and entrepreneurial attitude of the medical professional and find out why the same search a new specialty in the field of aesthetic medicine. This is a qualitative study, exploratory and descriptive, focusing on medical professionals who are studying postgraduate medical aesthetics at the Brazilian Institute of Aesthetic
Medicine. Study identified important characteristics to compose the profile of a person with the potential to pull the trigger of the process undertaken. It is noteworthy

In fact, the denial of aging and old age. That body ideal is proposed by the media – particularly for the Aesthetic Medicine – for Aging and Old Age within the framework of the Brazilian Society current? GOAL: Against the current cult of young bodies and “healed” and denial of “outword signal of aging”, investigate, in a virtual environment, the relationship between body, aging and old age. METHODOLOGY: Considering that scope of investigation was the virtual media the methodological approach fell on qualitative procedures and, more precisely, on Content Analysis (CA). For this survey the following search engines were used: “Body”, “Aging”, “Old age” e “Aesthetic Medicine”. With these guidelines in the horizon data were collected through surveys on the Web (Internet) of what is being informed about of theme. The materials were collected in the months of October and November 2015 covering, therefore, a period of sixty days. Due to its wide use and the resources available to the research tool was used “Google”. It was selected, for each of the searches, all the materials of the first five “pages”. The registration of each title was followed by a first analysis of broadcast content on the websites. For the content analysis the words were selected and the most frequent expressions, present in discourses on search engines, reveal the meanings associated with the topic. RESULTS: For the search “body”, they were identified 53 (fifty three). For the search “aging”, they were identified 75 (seventy five) sites. Já o buscador “Old Age” it resulted 70 (seventy) sites. For the search “Aesthetic Medicine” were identified 76 (seventy six) sites. All sites were submitted to the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study / O “bombardeio” que a mídia propõe sobre estética corporal e formas de se vestir, entre outras, acabam impondo padrões que constituem, na verdade, a negação do envelhecimento e da velhice. Que ideal de corpo é proposto pela Mídia – particularmente pela Medicina Estética – para o Envelhecimento e a Velhice no âmbito da Sociedade Brasileira Atual? OBJETIVO: Diante do atual culto aos corpos jovens e “sarados” e da negação dos “sinais exteriores da idade” investigar, em ambiente virtual, a relação entre Corpo, Envelhecimento e Velhice. METODOLOGIA:Considerando que o lócus da investigação foi a mídia virtual a abordagem metodológica proposta recaiu sobre procedimentos qualitativos e, mais precisamente, sobre a Análise de Conteúdo (AC). Para o levantamento foram utilizados os seguintes buscadores: “Corpo”, “Envelhecimento”, “Velhice” e “Medicina Estética”. Com estas orientações no horizonte os dados foram coletados através levantamentos na Web (Internet) do que está sendo veiculado sobre o tema. As matérias foram coletadas nos meses de Outubro e Novembro de 2015 cobrindo, portanto, um período de sessenta dias. Por sua ampla utilização e pelos recursos de que dispõe na investigação foi utilizada a ferramenta “Google”. Nela foram selecionadas, para cada um dos buscadores, todas as matérias das cinco primeiras “páginas”. Ao registro de cada título seguiu-se uma primeira análise dos conteúdos veiculados nos sites.Para a Análise de Conteúdo foram selecionadas as palavras e expressões mais recorrentes que, presentes nos discursos sobre os buscadores, revelam os significados associados ao tema. RESULTADOS OBTIDOS: Para o buscador “corpo”, foram levantados 53 (cinquenta e três). Para o buscador “envelhecimento”, resultaram em 75 (setenta e cinco) sites. Já o buscador “velhice” resultou em 70 (setenta) sites.Para o buscador “medicina estética” foram 76 (setenta e seis) sites. Procedimentos estéticos: percepção do cliente quanto ao esclarecimento para a tomada de decisão / Aesthetic Procedures: the client\' s disillusionment concerning the clarification for the decision makingAuricchio, Ana Maria 04 March 2004 (has links)
Este trabalho teve como objetivo verificar a percepção do cliente quanto ao esclarecimento para tomada de decisão referente à realização de procedimentos estéticos. O estudo, do tipo descritivo, exploratório, com abordagem quantitativa dos dados, foi realizado com amostra de 44 clientes, freqüentadores da Clínica de Estética e Cirurgia Plástica. A coleta de dados foi realizada por intermédio de um instrumento com base na Escala de Likert, constituída por 28 proposições, classificadas em três categorias: Informação, Competência e Liberdade. Completaram o instrumento, duas escalas, com a finalidade de medir a percepção global dos clientes quanto ao esclarecimento das informações e a liberdade para tomada de decisão. Os resultados mostraram que, em relação ao grau de instrução, houve predomínio dos clientes de nível superior. Quanto à profissão/ocupação, a maioria enquadrou-se nos níveis III, IV e V, que corresponderam aos cargos de ocupação manual especializada, cargos de supervisão e gerência e profissionais liberais e cargos de alta administração, respectivamente; em referência à renda familiar, houve predomínio dos clientes com renda superior a R$ 8000,00 ou mais. Verificou-se também predomínio da faixa etária de 41 a 50 anos, com a maioria dos clientes do sexo feminino e, estado civil casado. Quanto ao tipo de tratamento, o clínico predominou sobre o cirúrgico. Analisadas as três categorias, identificou-se uma discreta superioridade do escore médio atribuído à categoria Competência em relação ao atribuído às categorias Informação e Liberdade, porém a maioria dos escores das três categorias foi bastante homogênea, sendo os escores médios das categorias superiores a 4,5, ou seja, variando de concordante à alta concordância. Os escores para Informação, Competência e Liberdade estão associados com o tipo de tratamento, mas não com a idade dos clientes. Constatou-se também que, em média, os clientes que se submeteram a tratamento clínico atribuíram escores menores do que os clientes que tiveram tratamento cirúrgico. Quanto às questões globais referentes ao esclarecimento das informações e à liberdade para tomada de decisão para o procedimento, temos médias de 9,41 e 9,70 respectivamente. Estes resultados mostram que os profissionais de saúde forneceram informações claras, suficientes e adaptadas às necessidades dos clientes, deixando-os livres e competentes para a tomada de decisão quanto ao procedimento estético / This paper aims at verifying clients perception in relation to the information given for the decision making process relating to aesthetic procedures. The descriptive, exploratory, correlating, with a quantitative approach, was carried out with a sample of 44 clients of the Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery Clinic. The data collection was carried out by means of an instrument based on the Likert Scales, consisting of 28 propositions, classified in three categories: Information, Competence and Freedom. Two other scales completed the instrument so as to measure clients global perception concerning the elucidation of given information and freedom to make a decision. The level of significance was 5% and the results revealed that as far as education was concerned, most clients had university degrees. Concerning profession/occupation, most clients were positioned in levels III, IV and V, which refer to skilled manual work, supervision and management positions, self-employed professionals and high administrative positions, respectively. As far as family income was concerned, most clients had a monthly income above R$ 8000,00. It was also suggested that there was a slight predominance of clients from the 41-50 year-old age group, being most of them married women. In relation to the treatment, there was a slight predominance of clinical treatments, when compared to the surgical ones, and the procedures chosen were first peeling, 22%, followed by botulinum toxin and filling, 16% each. Among the surgical procedures, the most common was liposuction - 14% of the clients, followed by breast surgeries, 12%. During the analysis of the three categories a slight superiority of the average score given to the Competence category was identified, when compared to the scores given to the Information and Freedom categories, although the average scores for the three categories were quite homogeneous, being all above 4.5, that is, varying from agree to totally agree. The information, competence and freedom scores are related to the type of treatment, but not to the clients age. The survey also confirmed that on average the clients who underwent clinical treatment gave lower scores than the ones who underwent surgical treatment. In relation to global questions, concerning elucidation of information and freedom to make the decision regarding the procedures, we have the average of 9.41 and 9.70 respectively. These results reveal that health professionals provided clients with clear, sufficient and relevant information based on their clients needs, leaving them free and competent to take the best decision in relation to aesthetic procedures

Background and Objectives: Vascular variations appear as morphologically distinct patterns of
blood diverging from the most commonly observed vessel patterns. The facial artery is considered to
be the main vessel for supplying blood to the anterior part of the face. An anatomical understanding
of the facial artery, its course, its topography, and its branches is important in medical and dental
practice (especially in neck and face surgery), and is also essential for radiologists to be able to
interpret vascular imaging in the face following angiography of the region. A profound knowledge
of the arteries in the region will aid in minimizing the risks to the patient. Materials and Methods:
In our publication a narrative literature review and a case report are presented. Results: A rare
case of a facial artery pattern has been described anatomically for the first time with respect to its
course and branching. This variation was found on the left side of a 60-year-old male corpse during
anatomical dissection. The anterior branch of the facial artery arched in the direction of the labial
angle, and there divided into the inferior and superior labial arteries. At the same time, the posterior
branch coursed vertically and superficially to the masseter muscle. It here gave off the premasseteric
branch, and continued towards the nose, where it ran below the levator labii superioris and the
levator labii superioris alaeque nasi muscles and terminated at the dorsum nasi. Conclusions: Our
review of the literature and the case report add to knowledge on the facial artery with respect to its
topographical anatomy and its branching and termination patterns, as well as the areas of supply.
An exact knowledge of individual facial artery anatomy may play an important role in the planning
of flaps or tumor excisions due to the differing vascularization and can also help to prevent artery
injuries during aesthetic procedures such as filler and botulinum toxin injections.

It is a lifestyle in which body care plays a significant role. This paper analyzes trends in the two most famous Czech magazines devoted to aesthetic dermatology and plastic surgery - Estetika and Health & Beauty. The work aims to analyze these two magazines and find out how they portray these selected trends and which methods they most frequently use to persuade women to undergo surgery. It also tries to expound media representations of ideal beauty and the influence of the media on people. With regard to the objectives the work is divided into three parts: theoretical part, methodological part and empirically analytical part, or more precisely, the research part. The theoretical part comprises the conception of beauty in connection to human body. It examines the development of ideal beauty and the perception of the female body throughout the centuries.
