Personality and Relationship Satisfaction: Evaluating the Direct Associations Between Neuroticism, Agreeableness, Extraversion, and Relationship Satisfaction in Romantic Couple Relationships

Tackett, Sarah Lefevre 18 April 2011 (has links) (PDF)
Specifically, using a sample of 2,848 couples from the RELATE dataset, a model was tested examining the direct associations between personality factors (neuroticism, agreeableness, and extraversion) and relationship satisfaction in romantic couple relationships. The results indicated that lower levels of neuroticism, higher levels of agreeableness, and lower levels of extraversion were associated with greater relationship satisfaction. In particular, ratings of agreeableness had the strongest associations with satisfaction for males and females, while neuroticism had the next strongest associations, followed by extraversion. Paths between male variables and female variables and satisfaction were not significantly different; however, slight gender differences were present among factor loadings of variables as well as coefficient values of all paths. Additionally, differences in actor and partner effects were evident. Actor effects were present for each of the personality factors, except for male extraversion; partner effects were present for all of the personality factors.

An Experiment Examining the Relationship of Affect, Equity, and Equity Sensitivity, With Organizational Citizenship Behaviors

Kalanick, Julie Lynn 30 May 2006 (has links)
This study employed an experimental design intended to be an analog to the workplace to simultaneously examine the affect orientation and equity theory explanations of OCBs, which were evaluated as prosocial behaviors. Participants were 188 undergraduates. Participants' dispositional variables were measured at time 1, and at time 2, participants experienced an equity manipulation and were given the opportunity to perform prosocial behaviors. Results indicated a distinction between the decision to help and helping effort, which has not been thoroughly examined in literature on OCBs. Results revealed that the threshold for the decision to help was raised by inequity, yet once the decision had been made, affect and personality variables affected effort of helping. Implications for research and practice are discussed. / Master of Science

Morgonidealisering: prediktorer, prevalens och inverkan på välmående / Morning idealisation: predictors, prevalence and impact on wellbeing

Jensen, Elias, Lindskog, Rufus January 2021 (has links)
The tendency to idealise getting up early in the morning by attributingit with positive qualities is a behaviour we can observe in a lot ofpeople. We call this behaviour morning idealisation. It permeates ourattitudes toward morning people as well as evening people andcontributes to certain prejudice against both. In a cross-sectionalstudy we gathered data from questionnaires completed by respondentsolder than 15 (N = 246). By analyzing the data we looked into howprevalent morning idealisation is in our sample, how it influenceswellbeing, and to what extent it is influenced by spirit of capitalism, agreeableness and conscientiousness. We found that there is noconnection between morning idealisation and wellbeing, that morningidealisation exists in our sample and that morning idealisation couldpartially be explained by spirit of capitalism and conscientiousness. We should acknowledge the existence of morning idealisation in orderto protect ourselves from biases towards different chronotypes. Oneway to do this is to inform people about the existence of morningidealisation, to show that it doesn’t lead to wellbeing and to show whoare particularly prone to pick up the attitude.

How well do agreeable people speak the five languages of love? : A quantitative study on the relationship between the personality trait agreeableness and love language

Pettersson, Linnea, Johansson, Frida January 2023 (has links)
Romantic relationships are a significant part of many people's lives. An important part of a well-functioning relationship is showing love to each other, preferably through different love languages. The five love languages were developed by Chapman (1992) and include Acts of Services, Physical Touch, Words of Affirmation, Quality Time and Gifts. Love languageshave been shown to be a contributing factor to high quality romantic relationships. The personality trait Agreeableness from the Five-factor model is linked to loving and empathic traits, among others. This study aims to study the relationship between Agreeableness and love language. The study also investigated if there was any difference in love language depending on whether you are single or in a relationship. This was done through a survey study with 417 participants that was created using the validated measurement tools Love Language Subscales and Mini-IPIP (Mini International Personality Item Pool-Five-Factor Model). The data were analyzed using a correlation analysis and a t-test. The results of the correlation analysis showed a significant positive correlation between Agreeableness and all five love languages. In other words, this indicates that people who score high on Agreeableness also score high on Chapman's five love languages. The t-test showed only a weak significant difference between relationship status and Physical Touch and Words of Affirmation, with those in relationships scoring higher on both. Thus, relationship status seems to be able to indicate love language to some extent.

The mirage of agreeableness : A study of the impact of free-riding behavior on the sucker-effect

Suljakovic, Adnan, Westerman, Gustav January 2024 (has links)
In group work, the sucker-effect is a motivational loss in which effort is reduced due to feeling taken advantage of when other group members intentionally avoid work, known as free-riding. No previous studies on the sucker-effect have investigated moderating factors that can be attributed to the free-rider. The purpose of this study was to explore if agreeable behavior of a free-rider would moderate the sucker-effect, and if so, to what extent. Using an experimental design, students (n = 20) at Södertörn University served as participants. A systematic allocation toone of two conditions was used, the less agreeable and more agreeable. During the experiment a participant and a confederate worked in dyadson a disjunctive cooperative jigsaw puzzle task. The manipulation was the free-riding confederate's level of agreeableness. Self-rated effort andactual performance were measured. Using Mann-Whitney U-tests (α =.05, two-tailed), no significant differences were found in either of thedependent variables. In fact, by and large, no sucker-effect was observed at all. Other than manipulating the confederate's level of agreeableness, the design allowed for much more interaction in the dyads than previous studies on the sucker-effect have. It is discussed whether this interaction might have created an ingroup feeling, leading to the prevention of asucker-effect. In this study it thus seems that the free-rider's level of agreeableness does not moderate the sucker-effect. Also, meaningful interaction between group members might prevent a sucker-effect fromoccurring at all. However, due to the study's small sample size, theseresults are not definitive and should be taken with caution.

Personality traits and learning approaches : are they influencing the learning process?

Dalton-Brits, E., Viljoen, M. January 2010 (has links)
Published Article / The relationship between the big five personality traits, Extraversion, Agreeableness Neuroticism, Conscientiousness and Openness to Experience and deep and surface approaches to learning forms the basis of this article. The findings of a research study in this milieu will be presented to prove that earlier studies in this field have been upheld, but that an important deviation has occurred on certain levels of personality. A students way of learning implies the type of learning that is taking place. Ultimately we as lecturers want to encourage deep learning as this stimulates retention of information, important in production of students that are ready for employment.

The relationship between personality traits and professional skepticism with gender as moderating factor

Larsson, Anders, Wannehag, Josefine January 2019 (has links)
To be able to apply professional skepticism in day-to-day work is an important attribute for today’s auditors. However, factors that affect the professional skepticism is not investigated in previous research. The question if personality traits affect the professional skepticism in consideration of gender as a moderating factor is an area where we have not found any previous research. To be able to fulfil the purpose a quantitative approach has been applied and the data has been collected through a survey distributed to economy students attending Högskolan Kristianstad and Jönköping International Business School. The study has applied existing measuring instruments to measure the independent variable personality traits and the dependent variable professional skepticism. The survey also explored a few control variables among the respondents. The results from the study indicate that two of the personality traits in the study (conscientiousness and openness) have a positive correlation with professional skepticism. Furthermore, the study found that a part of the personality trait neuroticism, the stress aspect, has a negative correlation with professional skepticism. The study has found no proof that support the belief that gender has a moderating effect on the correlation between personality traits and professional skepticism. The study showed that the control variable mother tongue has a significant correlation with professional skepticism. This is something that future research in the field should examine further.
