COVID-19 a letecký průmysl: Ekonomické dopady a odezvy politik / COVID-19 and the aviation industry: Economic impacts and policy responses

Hrubý, Martin January 2021 (has links)
Bibliographic note HRUBÝ, Martin. COVID-19 and the Aviation Industry: Economic Impacts and Policy Responses 59p. Master thesis. Charles University, Faculty of Social Sciences. Institute of Political Studies. Supervisor Ing. Petr Balcar, M.Sc. Abstract This thesis uses a combination of trend analysis and MACBETH/MABAC multiple criteria decision-making methods to assess the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the financial health of the aviation industry in 2020. It also examines the efficiency of government measures adopted to mitigate such impact by comparing the results with a hypothetical scenario where no government aid was provided in 2020. The findings show that the novel coronavirus pandemic significantly increased the probability of default across the studied airline sample and had a strong negative impact on profitability. Furthermore, the data indicates that government support improved the overall financial fitness of the studied sample and significantly reduced the probability of bankruptcy while having only a minimal effect on airline profitability. We analyze the mechanisms behind the identified trends and provide explanations that indicate room for improvement in future research. Caracterización del proceso de aprendizaje organizacional en United Airlines, Chile : perspectiva de los trabajadores

Quiroz Escobar, Mauricio [Parte I], Marín Poveda, Bibiana [Parte II] 05 1900 (has links)

Analyzing Total Demand for Specified Destinations : A Total Demand Analysis for an Airline Company

Kecoglu, Onur, Sua, Melih January 2012 (has links)
The airline industry is a highly competitive market. Particularly after the major liberalization in the industry, the competition carried a step forward for all the concerned companies. Airline industry is a very dynamic market also; the expenses of a single operation may change substantially in a very short time period, which could be due to the fickle regulations or the fluctuation of oil prices. At any time, for a certain destination, a new airline company can start its operations and become a competitor, which can result in a market share loss for current operators. In such an environment, airline companies strive to maximize their revenues in every single flight. Load factors of a flight, classification, and pricing of airline tickets in a flight are determinative on the revenue of a single operation. In order to maximize revenue for its operations, companies should have a broad range of information about airline market conditions and passenger profile and preferences for every destination that they operate. Turkish Airlines, which is the largest airline company of Republic of Turkey and increasing its global awareness day by day, also strives to maximize its revenues per flight. In order to do so, Turkish Airlines needs to have suitable decisions regarding the capacity issues (determination of type and number of aircrafts, and flight frequencies) which will be then used worldwide in the different branches of company. These reasons lead to the increased need for the company to adopt practical total demand analysis in its operating destinations. The company aims to specify the factors, which are effective on the change of total demand for every destination. Turkish Airlines also strives to make most accurate demand forecasting in order to manage the peaks and troughs of the company’s flights. This project was brought to agenda in order to help this company to address this issue and was initiated with the purpose of making a total demand analysis for specified destinations. Destinations are from Stockholm to Athens, Thessalonica, New Delhi, Mumbai, Istanbul, Bangkok, and Dubai. This study is a quantitative study. Chosen demand factors, which constitute the total airline traffic between destination cities, are analyzed with respect to change in total demand. Various demand-forecasting methods are also applied in order to determine the best forecasting method for each destination, which is compatible with the quantitative approach. Results of the study are directly related to the airline market conditions of aforementioned destinations. Results are presented in four subheadings for every destination; overview of airline market, competition level of airline market, factors regarding the destination and demand forecasting for the destination. This study provides important information to Turkish Airlines regarding total demand analysis of specified destinations. Company learns the common factors (price, total amount of luggage, etc.) and the destination specific factors (language of crew, Frequent Flyer Programs, etc.) that are effective on the change of demand. Company may use this information in order to increase its market share (amount of passengers carried in a certain destination by Turkish Airlines from total demand) for specified destinations. With the help of this study, the company can make an accurate demand forecasting for Turkish Airlines’ future flights, which can be used in planning activities like determining the type of aircraft and flight frequency for a destination, and pricing of flight tickets through different passenger segments.

Relationship Between Airline Category, Geographical Region, and Safety Performance

Simpson, Peter 01 January 2018 (has links)
Passengers rank safety as a key factor in airline choice. Thus, safety performance impacts an airline's ability to attract customers. The purpose of this correlational study was to examine the relationship and difference between airline category low-cost carriers (LCCs) and full-service carriers (FSCs), geographical region, and safety performance measured by accident rates. The target population comprised all airlines in all countries that had an accident during the 14-year period 2004 to 2017. Data consisted of archival data of all global airline accidents and airline departure frequencies for the 14-year period. The theory of organizational accidents in complex sociotechnical systems explains the relationship between LCC and FSC safety performance, as well as between global geographical regions. The Swiss cheese model of organizational accidents theoretical framework remains a relevant model to examine airline accidents and improve airline safety. Data analysis consisted of the t test, ANOVA, correlation, and regression analysis. LCCs were found to be as safe as FSCs on a global level, and safer than FSCs in some regions. There were regional differences in safety, with North America being safer than Africa. The implications for positive social change include the potential for airline leaders to improve the safety image of their airline and provide passengers a better understanding of airline safety. Providing passengers with information on airline safety performance allows passengers to make informed choices on using different categories of airlines in different geographical regions. The research may result in new travel opportunities for travelers that were previously unrealized due to safety concerns, particularly around the increased use of LCCs.

A Case Study of Crisis Management Training Needs: Saudi Airlines

Alqahtani, Hussain Saad 01 January 2019 (has links)
This dissertation explores crisis management policies, programs, and training in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s premier airliners, Saudi Arabian Airlines. Saudi Arabian Airlines is a domestic and international carrier with a major role in the transportation of millions of Muslim pilgrims to the Kingdom during the annual Hajj season. This event places enormous strains on the capacity of the carrier, the airport, ground support systems, and the societal infrastructure of country. There have been tireless efforts by the Airline’s staffers to serve millions of visitors including pilgrims in a timely, safe and appropriate manner. Crisis management for Saudi Arabian Airlines includes assessment of natural and man-made risks in the firm’s operational environment, the development of a comprehensive response plan that includes training of staff at all levels of the firm, compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory mandates, and the use of effective response tools and systems. Saudi Arabian Airlines is viewed herein as best approached through the theoretical lens of Systems Theory, which speaks to the interdependency that exists within complex, multi-faceted systems. To identify the approach taken by Saudi Arabian Airlines to crisis management and to assess whether or not its response could be enhanced through additional planning, training or other strategies, a case study including review of relevant literature augmented by a survey of a sample of industry employees was undertaken. The survey instrument, coupled with an analysis of relevant crisis management protocols and practices including those recommended by organizations such as the International Air Transport Association was sued. The study identifies a need for additional training of the Airlines’ employees for a more effective crisis response
