Esta dissertação de mestrado tem como objetivo investigar arranjos de trabalho e disputas por liberdade encerradas em contratos de locação de serviços registrados entre os anos de 1830 e 1888 no Primeiro Cartório de Notas da Capital, em São Paulo, e no Primeiro Tabelionato de Notas de Campinas. Estes contratos inserem-se na lógica das alforrias compensatórias produzidas ao longo do século XIX, tendo proporcionando a continuidade do domínio escravista e da exploração do trabalho dos egressos da escravidão no pós-emancipação. Dessa forma, demarcaram a entrada precária dos egressos da escravidão no mundo da liberdade. A documentação analisada inclui ainda registros de disputas judiciais associadas a contratos de locação de serviços que demonstram as negociações e conflitos vividos na prática social entre a camada senhorial e os trabalhadores dispostos a realizar seus projetos de liberdade. / This essay aims to investigate work arrangements and disputes over freedom encompassed in service renting contracts registered between years 1830 and 1888 in the First Notary Office in the cities of São Paulo and Campinas. These contracts are comprehended in the logics of compensatory manumission produced throughout the 19th century. They provided the continuation of slave domain and the exploitation of workers that came out of slavery in the aftermath of emancipation. Thus, these contracts established precarious conditions for the entrance of former slaves in the domains of freedom. The sources analyzed also include registers of judicial disputes related to service renting contracts that unravel the negotiations and conflicts carried out in social practice by members of the manorial layer and workers determined to fulfill their freedom projects.

As way to comprehend the nature of these organizations, it wills exam the manners they functioned and were framed. Thus, the research regards the role of the social agents who took part in the anti-slavery social network and how ties were established among them. In the same way, it will highlight the role played by the press and how it contributed to prompt the anti-slavery practices, turning into privileged space for the member of societies that struggled against slavery

Tendo como foco analítico a comarca de Nazareth, buscamos compreender as relações sociais do período e suas diversas redes de poder. Numa visão dialética dos processos sociais, refletimos sobre as relações de conflito, negociação e acomodação entre os vários setores sociais, objetivando, sobretudo, alcançar as complexidades sócio-econômicas, políticas e culturais de uma comunidade escravocrata e, nesta conjuntura, analisar as possibilidades escravas de melhores condições de vida e de liberdade. O objetivo de compreender as ações dos escravos e livres levou-nos também a entender as atitudes harmônicas ou não da classe dos senhores e proprietários. A identificação das redes de conflitos fez-nos identificar as brechas e, através destas frestas, visualizamos as estratégias sociais e culturais dos trabalhadores. Em suma, este trabalho objetivou investigar a história dos trabalhadores, escravos e livres, sob a perspectiva analítica da História Social, valorizando analiticamente a cultura popular e a conjuntura específica da zona da mata norte Pernambucana nas últimas décadas da escravidão. Objetivamos, sobretudo, apostar na hipótese de que a micro-análise nos proporciona uma visão ampla das questões, trazendo sua complexidade e sua dinâmica multifacetada, isto é, uma interpretação da realidade com suas variáveis sócio-econômicas, políticas e culturais peculiares e conjunturais. Corroboramos com a análise dos processos sociais que envolvem proprietários e escravos sem generalizações. A proposta, assim, foi produzir uma versão peculiar sobre as relações de classe na sociedade escravista a qual abrangesse de forma dialógica, as ações de cima e as de baixo, não necessariamente, nesta ordem e de forma diacrônica / Abstract: In this work we aim to reconstruct the festive culture and struggle of workers to the sugar mills of the north of the forest zone of Pernambuco between 1870 and 1888. Focusing on analytical county of Nazareth, we crave to understand the social relations of the period and its various networks of power. In a dialectical view of social processes, we reflect about the relations of conflict, negotiation and accommodation between the various social sectors, aiming to grasp, mainly, the complexities of socio-economic, political and cultural community and slavery and at this juncture to consider the possibilities slaves of a better life and freedom. In order to understand the actions of the slaves and free, also led us to comprise the attitudes harmonic or not, the class of masters and owners. The identification of networks of conflict moved us to identify gaps, and through these cracks to observe the social and cultural strategies of the workers. In summary, this study aimed to investigate the history of workers, slave and free, from the analytical perspective of Social History, valuing analytically popular culture and specific conjuncture of the forest area north of Pernambuco in the last decades of slavery. We aim, above all, betting on the assumption that the micro-analysis gives us a broad overview of the issues, bringing its complexity and dynamic multifaceted, ie, an interpretation of reality with their conjucturais and peculiar variables socio-economic, political and cultural. We corroborate the analysis of social processes involving owners and slaves without generalizations. Para tanto, foi feito o intercruzamento de fontes variadas relativas aos mesmos grupos de cativos pertencentes a três famílias abastadas, procurando sempre que possível acompanhar esses escravizados ao longo do tempo. Houve a preocupação de investigar as famílias senhoriais proprietárias desses cativos. Analisamos como se deu a manutenção e/ou a ampliação das posses cativas, se por meio do tráfico e/ou da reprodução natural, fatores que influenciavam a formação das famílias escravas. Da mesma forma, procuramos avançar um pouco mais na compreensão das relações familiares dos cativos e de sua estabilidade, bem como na avaliação da importância da família escrava para os projetos de obtenção da liberdade por meio da alforria / Abstract The object of this thesis was to study the family relationships of slaves in Juiz de Fora, a plantation area in the region of the Zona da Mata Mineira, during the nineteenth century. This was done by cross-referencing various sources relating to the slaves of three well-to-do families, trying always to follow these bondspeople over time. The examination of the slave-owning families was also of concern. We have analyzed how slave holdings were maintained and/or increased, whether though the slave trade and/or by natural reproduction, factors that influenced the formation of slave families. In addition, we tried to advance our knowledge of the family relationships of the slaves and of their stability, as well as assess the importance of the slave family for the project of obtaining freedom through manumission / Doutorado / Historia Social / Doutor em História
