Analyzing Common Criteria Shortcomings to Improve its Efficacy / Analysera gemensamma Kriterier Brister att förbättra sin effektivitet

Ashfaq, Rana Aamir Raza, Khan, Mohammad Qasim January 2009 (has links)
Information security has become a key concern for organizations conducting business in the current electronic era. Rapid technological development continuously creates novel security threats, making IT an uncertain infrastructure. So the security is an important factor for the vendors as well as for the consumers. To fulfill the security needs, IT companies have to adopt some standards to assure some levels that concern with the security in their product. Common Criteria (CC) is one of the standards that maintains and controls the security of IT products. Many other standards are also available to assure the security in products but like these standards CC has its own pros and cons. It does not impose predefined security rules that a product should exhibit but a language for security evaluation. CC has certain advantages due to its ability to address all the three dimensions: a) it provides opportunity for users to specify their security requirements, b) an implementation guide for the developers and c) provides comprehensive criteria to evaluate the security requirements. On the downside, it requires considerable amount of resources and is quite time consuming. Another is security requirements that it evaluates and must be defined before the project start which is in direct conflict with the rapidly changing security threat environment. In this research thesis we will analyze the core issues and find the major causes for the criticism. Many IT users in USA and UK have reservations with CC evaluation because of its limitations. We will analyze the CC shortcomings and document them that will be useful for researchers to have an idea of shortcomings associated with CC. This study will potentially be able to strengthen the CC usage with a more effective and responsive evaluation methodology for IT community. / Rana Aamir Raza Ashfaq (0046-76-2473148)

Metod för automatiserad sammanfattning och nyckelordsgenerering / Method for automated summary and keyword generator

Björkvall, Dennis, Ploug, Martin January 2016 (has links)
The company Widespace handles hundreds of tasks (tickets) per week, which requires great overview by each employee. Because of this quantity, creating a clear view becomes a major problem. To solve this problem, a more consistent use of metadata is required, therefore, a study of metadata, automated summary and key words generation has been performed. The task was to develop a prototype that can automatically generate a summary, a list of keywords and give an indication of what language the text is written in. It was also included in the work to make a survey of earlier works to see which systems and methods that can be used for this task. Two prototypes were developed, compared with each other and evaluated. The methods used were based on both statistical and linguistic processes. Analysis of the results was done and showed that the prototype MkOne delivered the best results for the summary. The keyword list contained many precise keywords with high precision and a wide coverage.

Vztah uživatelů druhého bydlení k přírodě / Relation of the Secondary Housing Users to Nature

Menšíková, Kateřina January 2015 (has links)
This diploma thesis analyses second homes in a specific region of the Lužnice river middle course (the cadastral town of Soběslav and the cadastral parcels of the Roudná, Klenovice and Skalice villages). The applied research part is based on a theoretical background research that defines basic terms, outlines appropriate topics with a connection to second homes (rural tourism, history of second homes, naturbanisation) as well as describes the analysed region. The aim of this thesis is to discover what motivates second home dwellers to use these dwellings for individual recreational activities and to identify the current situation of second home dwelling in this specific region. Another goal I have set for this thesis is to analyse how satisfied are second home dwellers with public services and facilities and whether they are thinking about converting their second (holiday) homes into permanent homes. The methodology of this thesis is based on a questionnaire analysing the second home settlements in the region specified above. The data have been evaluated using Microsoft Excel a PSPP software. ANALYZING WEATHER OBSERVATION DATA TO IMPROVE EMERGENCY SERVICES PILOT RISK ASSESSMENT IN MARGINAL WEATHER CONDITIONS

Nicholas Michael Houghton (12442254) 22 April 2022 (has links)

Emergency services (ES) pilots operate in a dynamic, high-risk team environment, as a subset of general aviation (GA) operations. The time constraints associated with ES operations means that ES pilots must make flight decisions quickly and often with limited or incomplete information (Worm, 1999). Due to the nature of ES operations, the consequences of an incorrect flight decision can be severe, including loss of life. ES operations are often initiated by extreme weather events, and ES pilots are frequently required to fly on the boundary between marginal visual flight rules (MVFR) weather conditions and instrument meteorological conditions (IMC). Unfortunately, an unintended transition into IMC is the leading cause of fatal accidents in GA operations (Ayiei et al., 2020). Mission objectives dictate that most ES pilots fly below 1,500’ above ground level (AGL) for extended periods of time, and low-altitude flight in hazardous weather can reduce a pilot’s outside visual reference, thus leading to spatial disorientation, loss of control, or controlled flight into terrain. To mitigate this problem, ES pilots must be able to accurately assess weather conditions before and during flight. However, the current method of presenting meteorological aerodrome reports (METARs) on weather displays can be misleading to pilots. Weather conditions in the areas between weather observation stations can be different than what is reported by the METAR observations at those stations. This can cause current or forecasted weather conditions between weather stations to be incompletely represented. However, pilots are given no obvious indication of how incompletely represented weather conditions can affect weather-related risk. This research demonstrates that a Kth Nearest Neighbor (KNN) analysis can be used to identify areas where the variability of conditions between weather stations (and thus weather-related risk) is incompletely represented by METAR observations. In addition, it is shown that areas where there is an increased risk of an unintended transition from MVFR to IMC can be identified among areas with incompletely represented conditions and depicted to pilots on aviation weather displays. Machine learning tactics are proposed as a way to consider additional inputs in future KNN analyses, and several emerging technologies are proposed as mediums to collect additional weather observations. The ability for an ES pilot to more accurately assess weather-related risk in MVFR conditions using the proposed technologies is evaluated, the benefits to ES pilots and the GA community are discussed, and the requirements and limitations of the study are examined.

Moterų, nukentėjusių nuo seksualinio smurto, apklausos ir ikiteisminio tyrimo organizavimo ypatumai / Pre-trial Organizing and Interviewing Features of Sexual Violence Female Victims

Jasevičiūtė, Dalia 24 January 2011 (has links)
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Most women who come to police asking for help was forced to do many unpleasant acts. Usually first desperation is an interviewing with police officer, who rarely is qualified to communicate with a delicate victim. Tutorial tells common interviewing concepts, but delicate, such as sexual violence victims. The main object of this research is criminal cases of rape and sexual abuse articles. The aim of this study is analyzing the practice of criminal cases deal with female sexual violence in Lithuania the main problems associated with organizing of investigation. The study was carried out using various methods: method of mathematical statistics, comparative analysis, the direct questioning method, empirical method, online questioning method, the comparative legal method. Mathematical statistical method is used to analyze the main parameters of cases. In most interesting results are such as: the averaged subject is previously convicted of theft and robbery, on 30.2 years old man; the averaged circumstances are common drinking parties ; the averaged victim is 29,5 years old woman, who is wearing pants but skirt; the averaged duration of pre-trial investigation is 395 days; Comparative analysis of the method showed the strengths and weaknesses of cases: centralized investigated sexual abuse cases are more constructive and their analysis is faster and more efficient. Direct discussion method is obtained and evaluated additional information about the cases. Empirical method... [to full text]

Human concept cognition and semantic relations in the unified medical language system: A coherence analysis.

Assefa, Shimelis G. 08 1900 (has links)
There is almost a universal agreement among scholars in information retrieval (IR) research that knowledge representation needs improvement. As core component of an IR system, improvement of the knowledge representation system has so far involved manipulation of this component based on principles such as vector space, probabilistic approach, inference network, and language modeling, yet the required improvement is still far from fruition. One promising approach that is highly touted to offer a potential solution exists in the cognitive paradigm, where knowledge representation practice should involve, or start from, modeling the human conceptual system. This study based on two related cognitive theories: the theory-based approach to concept representation and the psychological theory of semantic relations, ventured to explore the connection between the human conceptual model and the knowledge representation model (represented by samples of concepts and relations from the unified medical language system, UMLS). Guided by these cognitive theories and based on related and appropriate data-analytic tools, such as nonmetric multidimensional scaling, hierarchical clustering, and content analysis, this study aimed to conduct an exploratory investigation to answer four related questions. Divided into two groups, a total of 89 research participants took part in two sets of cognitive tasks. The first group (49 participants) sorted 60 food names into categories followed by simultaneous description of the derived categories to explain the rationale for category judgment. The second group (40 participants) performed sorting 47 semantic relations (the nonhierarchical associative types) into 5 categories known a priori. Three datasets resulted as a result of the cognitive tasks: food-sorting data, relation-sorting data, and free and unstructured text of category descriptions. Using the data analytic tools mentioned, data analysis was carried out and important results and findings were obtained that offer plausible explanations to the 4 research questions. Major results include the following: (a) through discriminant analysis category members were predicted consistently in 70% of the time; (b) the categorization bases are largely simplified rules, naïve explanations, and feature-based; (c) individuals theoretical explanation remains valid and stays stable across category members; (d) the human conceptual model can be fairly reconstructed in a low-dimensional space where 93% of the variance in the dimensional space is accounted for by the subjects performance; (e) participants consistently classify 29 of the 47 semantic relations; and, (f) individuals perform better in the functional and spatial dimensions of the semantic relations classification task and perform poorly in the conceptual dimension.

Analyzing The Design Of Submersible Lifted Deviated Oil Wells

Kahya, Ali Cenk 01 January 2005 (has links) (PDF)
Electrical Submersible Pumping (ESP) is a well known artificial lift technique in reservoirs having high-water cut and low gas-oil ratio. It is known as an effective and economical method of producing large volumes of fluid under different well conditions. ESP equipments are capable of producing in a range of 200 b/d to 60.000 b/d. A case study was done, by designing 10 deviated or horizontal wells selected from the Y-oilfield in Western Siberia. SubPUMP software developed by IHS Energy is used for designing the ESP systems of these wells. These 10 wells will be working with variable speed drives. After selecting the available equipment from the inventory, the best running frequencies are selected for these wells. Evaluations of the designs are made from the pump performance graphs of each well. The pumps should work within their optimum efficiency ranges. These ranges can be seen from the pump performance curves. If the designs made are not within these efficiency ranges, designs should be evaluated and selecting new equipment should be should be an option. Because working outside the optimum efficiency ranges will decrease the production, shorten the runlifes of the pumps and the production will not be stable.
