On Positioning of Business, Management and Economics Fields of Study in the University Space

Nairz-Wirth, Erna, Wurzer, Marcus 04 1900 (has links) (PDF)
Based on available studies on business and management fields of study as upwardly-mobile university field of study choices as a basis, this study seeks to test this hypothesis of upward mobility. In doing so, it endeavours to identify correlations between field of study choice and educational background and between field of study choice and gender. The base data is taken from a survey of all domestic first-time students at Austrian universities in the 2011/12 winter semester (N=27,575). This data was subjected to a correspondence analysis, which allowed us to visualise and interpret the relations between the positions of these fields of study in the university space. The results indicate a clearly structured (stratified) university space. Our supplementary regression analysis shows that the upwardly-mobile higher education choice hypothesis can be confirmed for the fields of study studied. Our analyses also confirm the feminisation hypothesis for the business and management fields of study studied: women significantly more frequently select fields of study which lead to a career in a pedagogic (business education), social (social economy) or language (international business and management) context. In the group of fields of study explored, business education fields of study had both the highest share of first-time students and the highest level of feminisation. In contrast, economics fields of study, which was included in the analysis in addition to the business studies and management fields of study, have a significantly higher share of male students and the lowest share of higher education climbers. Childlessness intentions of young female researchers in Austria [Intendierte Kinderlosigkeit von jungen Wissenschaftlerinnen in Österreich]

Berghammer, Caroline, Buber-Ennser, Isabella, Prskawetz, Alexia January 2016 (has links) (PDF)
According to prior studies, female researchers in Austria exhibit a very high level of childlessness and, consequentially, a low mean number of children. Following up on these studies, we analyse childlessness intentions of young female researchers and compare them to those of other highly educated women in other occupations. We examine factors that are related to female researchers' intent to stay childless. The analysis is based on a survey of 196 female researchers between the ages of 25 and 45 (with the majority being between age 25 and 34). Results indicate that few young, childless researchers plan a life without children: Only 7% intend to stay childless and most of them want to have two children (66%). Their intentions are strikingly close to those of their highly educated peers in other occupations. We discuss three factors that play a role for childlessness intentions of female researchers: work-related conditions (employment uncertainty and work-family reconciliation), personal career orientation, and partnership context.

Implementing Responsible Research and Innovation Practices in SMEs: Insights into Drivers and Barriers from the Austrian Medical Device Sector

Auer, Alexander, Jarmai, Katharina 22 December 2017 (has links) (PDF)
This paper addresses the question of how Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) can be implemented in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs). It builds on existing knowledge about RRI in business as well as on insights into motivations, drivers and barriers from the related fields of eco-innovation and sustainability innovation. Expert interviews with CEOs of SMEs in the Austrian medical device sector are analyzed to develop insights into the companies' research and innovation activities and potential drivers and barriers for RRI. The findings support the assumption that SMEs are largely unaware of the RRI concept. At the same time, however, it is possible to identify current practices that already operationalize aspects of RRI. It is argued that SMEs could build upon existing practices to further develop ways of being responsible and that implementation of RRI should be in line with specific organizational and contextual factors.

The first part of the paper deals with the establishment of the minister's office and analyses his competencies; furthermore it pursues the selection process of ministers and their ministerial activities, the constitution of their office and cooperation of the Czech minister with Czech parliamentary circles in the Imperial Council (Reichsrat) in Vienna. An important task of the new bureau was the protection of the Czech national interests, which also included appointments of officials of Czech nationality to leading positions of the state apparatus. The methods of the minister and his cooperation with the Young Czech Party to promote reliable and proven Czech bureaucrats to powerful and influential positions are dealt with in three following chapters. Firstly, on the level of the Crown Land, exemplified by the Governor's Office, Land School Board and Land Financial Administration in Prague, secondly, on the imperial level as in the Ministry of Commerce, and lastly, on the municipal...

Religion in Steyr: Überblick über Glaubensgemeinschaften eine Religionstopographische Bestandsaufnahme im Interesse der Mission = Religion in Steyr: an overview of faith communities a topographical survey of religion in the interest of mission

Rathmair, Franz 30 November 2005 (has links)
Since about 20 years, local religious studies are being conducted in certain cities of German speaking Europe. These surveys deal scientifically with certain segments or with the total span of religious communities. This study about Steyr, Austria (42.000 inhabitants) is the first one that combines religious topography of a city with the gathering and comparison of statistical data of all its religious communities, covering the years 1995 - 2004. The partly surprising results confirm trends that national socio-religious studies have pointed out over the last years. At the same time the findings of this study complement other studies by looking also at minor religious bodies. Comparisons of local statistical trends in Steyr with the corresponding larger religious body in Austria show whether growth, stagnation or decline is typical for a community. At the end the researcher reflects on the contribution of this type of study to the field of missiology. / Philosophy, Practical and Systematic Theology / M. Th (Missiology)

Constructing a Modem Vienna: The Architecture and Cultural Criticism of Adolf Loos / Architecture and Cultural Criticism of Adolf Loos

Moss, Katie Nicole, 1982- 06 1900 (has links)
vii, 82 p. A print copy of this thesis is available through the UO Libraries. Search the library catalog for the location and call number. / Adolf Loos is most widely known for his essay Ornament and Crime (Ornament und Verbrechen), in which he sarcastically compares architectural ornament to the tattoos of "savages." Loos sought to modernize Vienna through the introduction of American and British culture and was known as one of Austria's most notorious cultural critics. Celebrated for breaking with the historicist culture of the late nineteenth century, Loos is often heralded as the father of the Modem Movement, but many of his writings and designs contradict such a classification. This thesis will explore the origins and motives behind Loos' s conception of modernism to suggest a better understanding of his role as cultural critic and architect in Vienna as well as his relationship to the architects and architecture of the subsequent generation. / Committee in Charge: Dr. Leland M. Rakouské standardy testování jako inspirace pro testování žáků ZŠ v České republice / Austrian testing standards like inspiration for pupil testing in the Czech Republic

GORČÍKOVÁ, Pavla January 2014 (has links)
The main aim of this diploma thesis is to find the inspiration for creating testing standards in the Czech Republic. The thesis is divided into two parts theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with the current form of Czech testing standards and also with testing standards which were created in other European countries. Pupils from these countries are already tested across the board. In the practical part I analyze the Austrian testing standards which were used as an inspiration for development of Czech testing standards. Then I sum up the agreements and on the other hand the differences between Czech and Austrian testing standards. Finally, the practical part is complemented with the author´s recommendation for development of Czech testing standards.

Un Monde De Différence: Une Exploration Entre Les Industries Viticoles Français et Autrichienne

McDonald, Ellie 01 January 2018 (has links)

Ritual Rebellion and Social Inversion in Alpine Austria: Rethinking the "Perchtenlauf" in its Relationship to the Carnivalesque

January 2014 (has links)
abstract: The "Perchtenlauf," a multi-faceted procession of masked participants found in the eastern Alps, has been the subject of considerable discourse and often debate within European ethnology since the mid-19th century. While often viewed from a mythological perspective and characterized as a relic of pre-Christian cult practices, only recently have scholars begun to examine its connection with Carnival. Research of this kind calls for an in-depth analysis of the "Perchtenlauf" that is informed by Bakhtin's theory of the carnivalesque, an aesthetic of festive merriment and the release from social restrictions which is embodied by Carnival traditions. A carnivalesque reading of the "Perchtenlauf" reveals a tradition pregnant with playful ambivalence, celebrations of the lower body, and the inversion of social hierarchies. Past interpretations of the "Perchtenlauf" have often described its alleged supernatural function of driving away the harmful forces of winter, however its carnavalesque elements have definite social functions involving the enjoyment of certain liberties not sanctioned under other circumstances. The current study solidifies the relationship between the "Perchtenlauf" and Carnival using ethnographic, historical, and etymological evidence in an attempt to reframe the discourse on the tradition's form and function in terms of carnivalesque performance. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.A. German 2014
