The relative advantage of Collaborative Virtual Environments in multichannel retail

Zarifis, Alex January 2014 (has links)
Collaborative Virtual Environments (CVE) have been with us for some years however the way people utilise them is evolving and their potential is unclear. This research attempts to achieve a better understanding of retail in CVEs by comparing this channel with the competing retail channels of ‘bricks and mortar’, or offline, and two dimensional navigation websites (2D websites), in order to identify their respective Relative Advantages (RA). This is investigated from the consumer viewpoint, as they are the ones who will ultimately shape CVEs by voting with their feet, clicks or virtual feet. By exploring the literature a model was chosen to guide the research. Furthermore, based on this model and other literature five key objectives were identified for further investigation. These objectives are categories of RA that must be explored when comparing retail channels. The first research objective is as follows: A RA of CVEs to the 2D websites for e-commerce may be the aspects of offline retail it includes that do not exist in the 2D websites. The second research objective is: A RA of CVEs retail compared to offline retail may be aspects of 2D e-commerce it includes that are not included in the offline retail environment. The third research objective is: Consumers may vary their intended usage of CVEs across the different stages of the purchase process because the significance of the dimensions of RA may vary across those stages. The fourth research objective is: Consumers’ usage of CVEs may be different for simple and complex products. The fifth research objective is: CVEs such as Second Life (SL) may have the RA of a higher degree of institutional trust compared to the 2D websites. The first stage of data collection used focus groups to clarify the objectives identified from the literature. The second stage involved interviews where these objectives were explored with participants that had relevant experience. Both stages were analysed using template analysis. The first contribution was verifying the relevance of the five objectives and identifying significant dimensions within them. The second contribution was to develop the model used for comparing retail channels by adding enjoyment to the criteria. The third stage of this research is a survey. This quantitative analysis supplemented the two qualitative stages by gauging the significance of the objectives and their dimensions. This enables the findings to be more useful to retailers in making the strategic decisions to achieve the optimum synergies within and between channels. Participants showed a preference for offline and 2D in most situations however there was evidence that enjoyment, entertainment, sociable shopping, the ability to reinvent yourself, convenience and institutional trust were RA of SL in comparison to one of the other two channels.

The collaborative process is a model of theatrical creation arisen from nineties of the twentieth century. It is also related to current forms of knowledge production and sharing. This work surveys three operational matrices that constitute the common structures used by various theatre groups in their own collaborative processes. They allow the formulation of different creation procedures by the playwrights. The three matrices are: the theme, the variable hierarchy and the critical feedback. The ideas elaborated in this study were developed from the observation of the collaborative playwriting performed in theatre groups and its influence in the pedagogical project of the playwriting course of the SP Escola de Teatro / Doutorado / Artes da Cena / Doutor em Artes da Cena

To(get)her

Pleyel, Jessica Carolyn 01 May 2016 (has links)
This thesis examines the route I took to produce a live activist performance in which twenty-six self-identifying women collaborated to destroy wax assault rifles with domestic products. These guns act as a metaphor for the violence that happens to many women on a daily basis. One in four women will encounter domestic violence, and one in six women will be raped in their lifetimes in the United States. Not only are many of our bodies attacked mentally, physically and sexually, but also the government stakes claim on our bodies. With 138 representatives voting against the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), and many of those same representatives also voting against stricter gun regulations it is apparent that these politicians do not see it problematic that women's bodies are targets. When the women come together, their connections are empowering, fierce, sometimes gentle, and always meaningful. As women, we may be targeted, but when we are together, and our voices are loud -- and in unison, we are strong.

Collaborative Crossover: Identifying Classical Vocal Collaborative Piano Practices in Jazz Vocal Accompanying

Morgenroth, David Jonathan 08 1900 (has links)
Classical vocal collaborative piano and jazz vocal accompaniment are well-established fields with long-standing performance traditions. Classical collaborative performance practices have been researched and codified, but jazz accompanying practices largely remain in the domain of aural tradition. Both classical and jazz accompaniment share associated practices, such as rubato, transposition, and attention to lyric diction and inflection, but there is little previous investigation into the idea that classical collaborative practices might apply to jazz accompanying. This research examines jazz piano accompanying practices in sung verses of standard tunes to demonstrate how accomplished jazz pianists intuitively use many of the same techniques as classical collaborative pianists to create balance with singers. Through application of expressive microtiming analysis to graphical displays of transcribed recorded performances, a strong correlation is established between the classical and jazz vocal accompanying traditions. Linking classical practices to jazz potentially creates a foundation for jazz accompanying pedagogy.

The Rehearsal Plan and the Preparation of Brazilian Art Songs: An Autoethnographic Study in Collaborative Piano

da Silva Gonçalves Santos, Elisama January 2020 (has links)
The objective of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of the rehearsal plan in the preparation of Brazilian art songs. This disquisition proposes a rehearsal plan model based on the concept of the class plan used in the field of education. The rehearsal plans were applied in a series of rehearsals with two singers at North Dakota State University in which we worked on four art songs composed by the Brazilian composer Francisco Mignone (1897-1986). This qualitative study adopted the autoethnography as research method. In this autoethnographic research I worked both as researcher and as pianist in the rehearsals. This disquisition relied upon two axes of theoretical framework, one musical and one educational: the musical axis was formed of studies regarding performance and preparation of art songs as developed by Katz (2009), Kimball (2006), Stein and Spillman (1996), Moore (1984), Bernac (1978), and Adler (1971). The educational axis was based on the studies of Libâneo (2006) and Coll, Pozo, Sarabia, and Valls (1998) and provided the concept, philosophical basis, structure, and applicability of the class plan. This educational axis also included studies supporting the effectiveness of the rehearsal plan in various musical contexts, such as Gorelick (2001), Brunner (1996), and Figueiredo (1990). The research data revealed that the rehearsal plan was an effective pedagogical tool in the preparation of Brazilian art songs. The rehearsal plans provided outlines of clear objectives and focused rehearsal strategies and facilitated the development and application of specific rehearsal strategies for art song performance preparation. The plans also promoted connectivity between rehearsals and a sense of accomplishment for the pianist and singers. In addition, the rehearsal plans detailed the preparation of Brazilian art songs with respect to three distinct dimensions of knowledge: conceptual, practical, and attitudinal.

Plan de Negocios: CO-DENT

Bretel Morales, Denisse, Holguín Vásquez, Luis Alonso, Ruiz Velit, Andrea Elizabeth 06 November 2019 (has links)
In recent years, Peruvian healthcare market has changed. Private investment has increased, however, in reference to Dentistry, this has only showed increased number of franchises, which doesn´t allow general dentists to make a living; thus, there is an increased number of general dentists looking for another way to establish a private practice, never the less, dental office hi maintenance and elevated prices has become a limitation for those who try to accomplish this; making them look for another kind of opportunity, such as, sharing or renting offices. On the other hand, those who actually install a dental office have idle capacity, due to the fact that there is a large amount of dentists in Lima; thus, there is the possibility to rent for hours the dental office in order to pay elevated costs, and even, generating attractive incomes. In this globalized world, where technology and collaborative economy are a big part or daily activities, it wouldn’t be strange (it would be expected), to develop and implement technological tools that allow dental office owners, who have idle capacity installed, to offer their space for rent and, to dentists who doesn’t have a dental office, an easy way to locate according to location, equipment or schedule availability. Each year, there appear new collaborative economy projects, such as UBER, Airbnb; which, when applied to Dentistry, can become as profitable as that business model. In a city, as big as Lima, it´s important to make efficient use of time and patients look for optimizing theirs. One way of doing this is to look for dental attention in an office close to their home or their workplace. Speaking about collaborative economy, the development of a web portal is raised, one in which dental offices owners with idle capacity can advertise their space; and for dentists who look for an office to work can access to one that meets the requirements for their needs. / Trabajo de investigación

Identification of Compromised Nodes in Collaborative Intrusion Detection Systems for Large Scale Networks Due to Insider Attacks

January 2020 (has links)
abstract: Large organizations have multiple networks that are subject to attacks, which can be detected by continuous monitoring and analyzing the network traffic by Intrusion Detection Systems. Collaborative Intrusion Detection Systems (CIDS) are used for efficient detection of distributed attacks by having a global view of the traffic events in large networks. However, CIDS are vulnerable to internal attacks, and these internal attacks decrease the mutual trust among the nodes in CIDS required for sharing of critical and sensitive alert data in CIDS. Without the data sharing, the nodes of CIDS cannot collaborate efficiently to form a comprehensive view of events in the networks monitored to detect distributed attacks. The compromised nodes will further decrease the accuracy of CIDS by generating false positives and false negatives of the traffic event classifications. In this thesis, an approach based on a trust score system is presented to detect and suspend the compromised nodes in CIDS to improve the trust among the nodes for efficient collaboration. This trust score-based approach is implemented as a consensus model on a private blockchain because private blockchain has the features to address the accountability, integrity and privacy requirements of CIDS. In this approach, the trust scores of malicious nodes are decreased with every reported false negative or false positive of the traffic event classifications. When the trust scores of any node falls below a threshold, the node is identified as compromised and suspended. The approach is evaluated for the accuracy of identifying malicious nodes in CIDS. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Computer Science 2020

Collaborative tasks of the School Governing Bodies in managing school finances in Limpopo province

Mphethi, Kgatabela Albert January 2016 (has links)
This research was conducted in the Sekhukhune District in Limpopo Province with a particular focus on the Department of Education's Malokela circuit. The main purpose of this study was to probe how school governing body (SGB) stakeholders work collaboratively to manage school finances and implement finance policy effectively in the public schools of Limpopo Province. The following research question was used to investigate the problem: How collaboratively do school governing bodies (SGBs) govern the financial affairs of public primary schools in the Malokela Circuit of Limpopo Province? It is in the interest of schools and their learners that SGB stakeholders work collaboratively to effectively manage school finances and properly implement finance policies. The identified problem was investigated by means of a qualitative research approach, using semi-structured interviews with a purposive sample from two selected public primary schools in the Malokela Circuit in Limpopo Province. The qualitative research approach was considered suitable because the study was intended to be an exploratory one aimed at gaining a better understanding of a phenomenon. The case study was used as a research design; it was assumed to be more appropriate for this research because it helped the researcher understand how people interact with, and relate to, one another. The research findings revealed that governing bodies in public primary schools are faced with many problems which, among others, include levels of education of stakeholders, especially parents, and their lack of knowledge and the skills needed to execute their duties when they are required to perform their roles and carry out their responsibilities in managing school finances. In order for public schools to meet these challenges successfully, this research makes a number of recommendations based on conclusions reached from findings. / Dissertation (MEd)--University of Pretoria, 2016. / Education Management and Policy Studies / MEd / Unrestricted
