Kinetic and Kinematic Properties of D-I Male Sprinters

The purpose of the study was to explore and determine kinetic and kinematic variables that related to D-I male sprinters maximal running velocity performance. The current study was separated into 3 individual chapters: 1.) Kinematic analysis magnitude of acceleration for braking and propulsion phases during foot contact phase at maximal speed sprinting; 2.) Using kinetic isometric mid-thigh pull variables to predict D-I male sprinters’ 60m performance; 3.) Relationship of whole and lower body angular momentum cancellation during terminal swing phase to sprint performance. Methods: for sprint measurement all the athletes were participated 2 trials of 100% effort running through 60 meters. The sprint time was measured by an electronic timing gate system. The electronic timing gate system was placed at every 10 meter intervals from the start line for 60 m. Six cameras were placed between 50 m and 60 m for kinematic data collection and analysis. Volume captured by the cameras is 7.5 m long, 1.2 m wide, and 1.95 m high. Reflective markers were attached on the body landmarks based on Vicon Nexus full body plugin model. The strength assessments were performed in a customized power rack, and kinetic values were collected via a dual force plate setup (2 separate 91 cm x 45.5 cm force plates, Roughdeck HP, Rice Lake, WI). The position for each isometric pull was established before each trial using goniometry, with each bar height corresponding to a 125±5º knee angle and a near-vertical trunk position. Results: current study partially support previous assumption that fast sprinters can minimize braking phase during foot contact phase when they are running maximal velocity. However, those minimizing effects did not impact maximal running velocity performance. Second, the study showed that fast sprinters can produce greater force during a short period of time than slower sprinters. Moreover, a certain trend of statistical significance was observed from the third study that angular momentum cancellation between lower bodies at frontal plane may be related to maximal running velocity performance. Discussion: the current study confirmed that fast sprinters can produce greater force in a short period time. However, the current study did not show statistical significance of angular momenta cancellation and sprint performance. Only a level of trend was observed. Thus, further study should examine sprinters with different training background, especially elite level sprinters is definitely needed.

Existing frameworks for the development of client-side applications in JavaScript programming language are described as well as the Java platform focused on creating a web application server component, FITLayout software for segmentation and analysis of documents. Software architecture design providing similar functionality such as existing graphical tools available in FITLayout and important aspects of implementation follows. At the end of the thesis testing of web application is described as well as comparison of desktop FITLayout software and web application that was implemented.

The aim of this thesis is to examine differences between the three Javascript frameworks Angular, React and Vue along the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model. With the purpose to give developers support in their choice of framework. Previous studies focused on advantages and disadvantages of the frameworks from a technical perspective, therefore we decided to carry into effect a qualitative study based on developers experience. Our method of choice was a case study where the phenomenon was “why a framework is chosen”, this ruled and motivated our research. We used a survey as the method to collect data. With our survey we collected data from more than 500 different developers. The results from the research are presented in different tables and charts which we analyze and compare to the results of previous studies related to ours. The conclusion of our research is that Vue is a good option for a developer that is learning on your own, looking for a framework that is easier to learn or developing a smaller project on your own. Angular is considered to be the most complicated framework to learn, but is a good option for anyone who is looking for a job or is involved with bigger projects. React has the lowest overall values in all the UTAUT categories, but has shown to be a viable option for someone looking for better job opportunities. The advantage React has over Angular is that it is easier to learn. The final results of our thesis are recommendations and not strict rules. Decisions for and against a framework depend heavily on the use case and other varying circumstances. Our study can hopefully give a better insight and support developers in their choice of framework. / Webbutveckling utvecklas, innoveras och skapar nya möjligheter för användare att mötas på en gemensam plattform. En del av utvecklingen är möjlig mha JavaScript-ramverk vars versioner är i tusental. Syftet med vår rapport var att undersöka skillnader mellan de tre ramverken Angular, React och Vue utefter Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) modellen för att kunna ge utvecklare stöd i sitt val av ramverk. Tidigare studier visar på fördelar och nackdelar kring de tekniska aspekterna hos ramverken. Därför valde vi att utföra en kvalitativ studie baserad på utvecklares erfarenheter. Vi utförde en fallstudie där fenomenet var “varför ett ramverk väljs”, detta styrde och var motiveringen till våran forskning. Vi använde en enkät som metod för datainsamling. Med vår enkät samlade vi in data från över 500 olika utvecklare. Resultat från undersökningen presenteras i olika tabeller och grafer som analyseras och jämförs med tidigare studiers resultat inom samma område. Vår slutsats av resultaten är att Vue är ett bra alternativ för dig som lär sig utveckla på egen hand, vill ha ett lättare ramverk att lära sig och utvecklar mindre projekt på egen hand. Angular anses var det svåraste ramverket att lära sig, men kan vara ett bra alternativ för dig som vill söka jobb eller ska utveckla ett större projekt. Angular är det ramverk som funnits under en längre tid och har därför bredare möjligheter. Även om React uppskattas lägst i alla kategorier så har det visat att det är ett bra alternativ för dig som vill öppna upp fler jobbmöjligheter. Fördelen React har över Angular är det är lättare att lära sig. Resultatet vi presenterar är förstås bara rekommendationer och inget som är definitivt. Beslut för och emot vilket ramverk som är bäst varierar från fall till fall beroende på omständigheterna. Men vår studie kan förhoppningsvis ge en bättre insikt och hjälpa utvecklare som står inför att välja ramverk.

Extraction and retention of teeth in the line of mandibular fracture: A study of a Western Cape sample

Magister Chirurgiae Dentium (MChD) / Anecdotal and controversial discussion has.always been prompted by the bias of the clinician in relation to whether teeth in the line of fracture should be extracted or retained. In recent years, it became evident to clinicians serving the Maxi 11ofaci aland Oral Surgery Clinic at Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town, that a tendency towards reta ining teeth in the 1ine of fractu re did not seem to increase the possi bility of infecti on, providing that circumspection was used. A retrospective analysis of these cases was conducted in order to determine the outcome of our treatment. An independent sample of the 151 patients were investigated in relation to age, sex predilection, the effect timing has on the outcome of treatment and the incidence of infection when teeth in the line of mandibular fracture were extracted or retained. The results of this study has shown that most of our patients were young (aged 20-29yrs) and therefore a tendency to retain teeth was found. In older patients, (aged 30-49yrs), the tendency was to extract teeth. Males presented more than females in a 3:1 ratio. Patients treated early « 24hrs) had most of their teeth retained while others treated after 7 days had their teeth extracted. The infecti on rate was 2 percent if teeth were retained and 5 percent if teeth were extracted. A1though the difference was not statistically significant, it appeared that the retenti on of teeth in the 1ine of fracture presented more advantages to both patient and clinician.
