Caractérisation des propriétés radiatives des nanoparticules de suie en présence de composés organiques / Characterization of the radiative properties of soot nanoparticles in the presence of organic compounds

Lefevre, Guillaume 16 October 2018 (has links)
Soot particles resulting from incomplete combustion may contain a more or less important part of organic compounds (OC / TC), depending on the combustion conditions. Moreover, once these nanoparticles are emitted into the atmosphere, volatile organic compounds can adsorb, forming a coating around these fractal aggregates. The impact of the initial composition or the atmospheric aging on the morphological and radiative properties of these particles is not well known. This has an impact on the radiative climate models but also on the interpretation of the signais delivered by the different optical diagnostics that can be used for aerosol metrology. In particular, this work aims to evaluate the relevance of the use of optical diagnostics to characterize soot particles in atmospheric conditions. In order to study the impact of organic compounds initially present in the particle or adsorbed in post-combustion on their radiative properties, we have studied soot produced by a diffusion flame (miniCAST) for different global richnesses and added an organic acid coating. In order to produce an oleic acid layer on reference particles, a coating device has been implemented and qualified. Particles thus generated, coated or not, were characterized in mass (TEOM measurements), in size (SMPS measurements) and morphologically (effective density). The coating thickness as well as the morphological restructuring caused by the addition of an organic coating was thus quantified. The radiative properties were measured by spectrally resolved light extinction and scattering (angular and spectrally resolved). A special effort was made to allow experimental measurements to validate pre-existing numerical results. Moreover, these different measurement techniques (optical and non-optical) have led to the generalization of the Rayleigh Debye Gans for Fractal Aggregates (RDG-FA) theory to particles of the polydispersed fractal aggregate type coated with an organic layer (RDG-CFA). This allows to understand phenomenologically the impact of a coating on the radiative properties and to permit an easier implementation in climate simulation codes or for the interpretation of optical measurements in the atmosphere. Finally, special attention was paid to the laser induced incandescence technique (LII), to study the applicability of this technique to organic particles or having interacted with atmospheric compounds during their aging processes.

Deformation of phospholipid vesicles in an optical stretcher

Delabre, Ulysse, Feld, Kasper, Crespo, Eleonore, Whyte, Graeme, Sykes, Cecile, Seifert, Udo, Guck, Jochen 09 December 2019 (has links)
Phospholipid vesicles are common model systems for cell membranes. Important aspects of the membrane function relate to its mechanical properties. Here we have investigated the deformation behaviour of phospholipid vesicles in a dual-beam laser trap, also called an optical stretcher. This study explicitly makes use of the inherent heating present in such traps to investigate the dependence of vesicle deformation on temperature. By using lasers with different wavelengths, optically induced mechanical stresses and temperature increase can be tuned fairly independently with a single setup. The phase transition temperature of vesicles can be clearly identified by an increase in deformation. In the case of no heating effects, a minimal model for drop deformation in an optical stretcher and a more specific model for vesicle deformation that takes explicitly into account the angular dependence of the optical stress are presented to account for the experimental results. Elastic constants are extracted from the fitting procedures, which agree with literature data. This study demonstrates the utility of optical stretching, which is easily combined with microfluidic delivery, for the future serial, high-throughput study of the mechanical and thermodynamic properties of phospholipid vesicles.

Renderingstidsjämförelse mellan One-way data bindning, Virtual DOM och Two-way data bindning, Real DOM inom e-handel / Rendering time comparison between One-way data binding, Virtual DOM and Two-way data binding, Real DOM in e-commerce

Östholm, Caroline January 2023 (has links)

Validation of a new iPhone application for measurements of wrist velocity during actual work tasks / Validering av en ny iphone-applikation för mätning av handledshastighet under verkliga arbetsuppgifter

Abaid, Mohammed Abderhman January 2023 (has links)
The breakthrough in mobile technology and the development of smartphones, supplied with sensing devices such as Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), has made it possible to obtain accurate and reliable data on the angular velocity for different objects. The available technical sensors for wrist movements, such as electrogoniometers, are costly, time-consuming, and need a particular computer program to be analyzed. Therefore, there is a need to develop user-friendly risk assessment methods for wrist angular velocity measurements. This master thesis aimed to validate the accuracy of a newly developed iPhone application (App), "ErgoHandMeter," for wrist velocity in actual work tasks, by comparing the “ErgoHandMeter” to standard electrogoniometers. The project study was performed with four participants, two females and two males, from three jobs performing actual work tasks. The total angular velocity obtained by the mobile application was compared with the angular velocity data from the standard electrogoniometer. The total angular velocities obtained from the smartphone and the goniometer were computed at the 10th, 50th and 90th percentile for the four subjects. The 50th percentile of goniometer-flexion velocity (G-flex) was 7.4 ± 5.4°/s, for the goniometer-total (G-tot) 8.7 ± 6.5)°/s and for App 7.2 ± 4.9°/s. The correlation coefficient for the 50th percentile of goniometer-flexion (G-flex) parameter and smartphone application was 0.994. For the goniometer-total (G-tot) and the application, it was 0.993. In a Bland-Altman plot the mean difference between G-flex and App for the 50th percentile was -0.18 °/s and for G-tot and App was -1.54 °/s, i.e. the App was lower in average. The limit of the agreement between G-Flex and App, and G-tot and App stayed within two standard deviations. For G-Flex and App (mean+1.96SD) was 1.34 °/s, (mean-1.96SD) was -1.71 °/s, while for G-tot and App (mean+1.96SD) was 1.89 °/s, (mean-1.96SD) was -4.96 °/s, indicating an adequate agreement between the two methods. A limitation was that the included occupations were all relatively low velocity. However, in conclusion, the results indicate that the two methods agree adequately and can be used interchangeably.
