Previous issue date: 2017-09-04 / CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / In the world, there are 7,726 species of amphibians described to date and the Anura order has the largest number of identified species, with approximately 6,784 species. The Brazilian anura fauna has 1,039 species, being the most representative. In terms of diversity, Rondonia state has several sub-sampled gaps and it has the highest rates of deforestation in the Amazon. Therefore, the study of the anurans of Pacaas Novos National Park (PNPN), located in Campo Novo of Rondônia, propose to contribute with the biodiversity knowledge of this region. Two areas of the park, upland sites non-subject of flooding and the seasonally flooded areas were sampled in six expeditions carried out during the months of July 2014 to August 2016. Time Limited Visual Search (PVLT) methods, Reproductive Sites (ASR) and Pitfall Traps with Drift Fences (AIQ) were used. The teams used in PVLT and ASR samplings was formed by four or five researchers collecting for two hours/methodology/night, totaling 322 h/man in both ecosystems. Four AIQs (10 pails of 100 Liters) were used with two traps at each area, totaling 340 pails/day/area. During expeditions, 1,571 specimens belonging to 62 species of anurans from thirteen families were recorded: Aromobatidae (5), Bufonidae (4), Centrolenidae (1), Ceratophryidae (1), Craugastoridae (5), Dendrobatidae (2), Hylidae 23), Leptodactylidae (10), Microhylidae (5), Odontophrynidae (1), Phyllomedusidae (3), Pipidae (1) and Ranidae (1). The most frequent family in the park was Hylidae (37.1%). However, Pristimantis fenestratus of the Craugastoridae family was the most abundant species, with 222 specimens recorded (14.13%). The less abundant species (less than 1%) were: Allobates femoralis, Dendropsophus leucophyllatus, D. sarayacuensis, Pristimantis delius, P. diadematus, Teratohyla adenocheira and Trachycephalus cf. cunauaru. The new records for the state were Allobates flaviventris, A. cf. gasconi, Pristimantis delius and P. diadematus. Dendropsophus juliani represented the first record for Brazil. When comparing the richness of two areas, it can be stated that the richness in the seasonally flooded areas is higher in the PNPN, with 18 species that were only found in this area. The richness of PNPN is similar that found in Espigão d'Oeste also located in in Rondonia.

Previous issue date: 2012-02-10 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The Atlantic forest is the biome with the greatest concentration of endemic species in the world and is under severe threat of extinction. In the group of vertebrates amphibians occupy a prominent place in the number of endemism, with more than half of all species as being unique to that biome. The study was conducted in the Reserva Estadual de Gurjaú (RESG), which is located south of the city of Recife, within the limits of three municipalities (Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Cabo de Santo Agostinho and Moreno). The RESG has a total area of 1,077.10 ha, of which 400 ha are made up of forest areas. Since its inception Pernambuco is administered by the Company of Water and Sanitation (COMPESA), which has a treatment plant installed in the reserve while eliminating its chemical waste downstream of water intake. The frogs during their life cycle are subject to exposure in various types of environment, opposite as important bioindicators of polluted areas and environmentally abused. In order to confirm the harmful effect of disposing of waste in the environment, between January and December 2004 were collected weekly by active search in a 1km stretch of the River Gurjaú, 500m and 500m upstream and downstream of the point of eliminating pollutants. The results show that the 25 species listed for the RESG, six were seen near the river, namely: Hypsiboas semilineatus (Spix, 1824), Leptodactylus gr. marmoratus (Steindachner, 1867), Scinax x-signatus (Spix, 1824), Lithobates palmipes (Spix, 1824), Leptodactylus vastus (Spix, 1824) and Pseudopaludicola gr. falcipes (Hensel, 1867). Comparing the frequency of species in sampling sites with data from biochemical analysis of the water, we can conclude that the discharge of waste made COMPESA characterized by a potentially harmful action to the environment.

DIVERSIDADE E PADRÕES DE USO DO ESPAÇO DE ANFÍBIOS ANUROS DA ÁREA DE PROTEÇÃO AMBIENTAL DO IBIRAPUITÃ / DIVERSITY AND PATTERNS IN SPACE USAGE OF ANURAN AMPHIBIANS AT THE ÁREA DE PROTEÇÃO AMBIENTAL DO IBIRAPUITÃBolzan, Ana Maria Rigon 19 February 2014 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Studies of biodiversity surveys and habitat requirements are essential in landscapes threatened by
anthropogenic conversion, such as those that make up the Pampa biome. In the present study we
determined the spatial distribution of richness of anurans at the Área de Proteção Ambiental (APA)
do Ibirapuitã, the largest protected federal area within the Pampa biome in Brazil. Thus we: (1)
describe the composition of anuran community regarding species richness, abundance, constancy of
occurrence and reproductive modes; (2) compare the frogs composition with other localities of
grassland southernmost of South America; (3) tested whether local variables of waterbodies, space
and landscape are determinants of species richness, and (4) tested whether environmental
heterogeneity influences the structure of anuran community. Sampling was carried from October to
November 2012 and at November 2013, the searching at breeding sites method, tadpole collecting
and examination of specimens housed in herpetological collections. A total of 64 waterbodies (40
ponds and 24 streams) were sampled for the anuran amphibians, as well as were recorded
environmental descriptors in three scales: local, space, and landscape. We recorded the occurrence
of 33 anuran species at the APA Ibirapuitã. The registered anurans are typical of open areas, and at
least 10% of them are restricted of the grassland areas to the subtropical region of South America,
including two endangered species at the global and state levels. Pseudopaludicola falcipes was the
most abundant species and Hypsiboas pulchellus was the species most frequently recorded. Five
reproductive modes were recorded, and the deposition and the development of exotrophic tadpoles
in lentic waterbodies was the most common mode (57.5%). Cluster analysis revealed five groups
with more than 50% similarity, whose structure was influenced by geographic distance, but can be
partially interpreted by regional peculiarities. We used generalized regression models considering
the set of descriptors as predictors of anuran species richness. Subsequently, we use a partition of
variance to evaluate the independent and shared explicability between different sets of predictors.
Finally, we use a Canonical Redundancy Analysis to explore the role of environmental descriptors
on the species abundance of frogs in ponds and streams. The richness in ponds was influenced by
the local variable representing the area of waterbodies. Already the abundance was correlated with
the percentage of vegetation on the shores and the water temperature. In streams, the species
richness of anurans was correlated with a local variable (number of strata of emergent vegetation)
and a landscape variable (distance in relation to human residences). Species abundance was
affected by higher vegetation strata (> 200 cm) on the shores and by water electrical conductivity.
The combined contribution of local and landscape variables have important implications for
understanding how amphibians are distributed in the grassland environment. Our work shows the
importance of conserving grassland biomes which are increasingly threatened by human activities. / Studies of biodiversity surveys and habitat requirements are essential in landscapes threatened by

Although restinga habitats represent approximately 5000 km of the Brazilian coast, the information available about the composition of the anuran fauna present on those habitats are restricted to relatively few areas. Nowadays restinga habitats are under intense set of pressures as result of a demographic density five times higher than the average for the country leading to the occupation, degradation and eventual loss of such habitats. This is especially alarming for the threatened endemic populations of terrestrial vertebrates due to the difficulty of vegetation recovery after clearings. Presently, the remnants of these habitats along much of the eastern Brazilian coast are represented by completely isolated fragments. Herein we present the first approximation to the list of the amphibians from the restinga of Grumari, inserted in the Parque Natural Municipal de Grumari (PNMG), municipality of Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro state, southeastern Brazil. The area is situated in the Atlantic Rainforest Biome. Its also the first study on the community of litter anuran fauna, obtaining density data, for the Brazilian restinga. The study was carried out from May 2009 to December 2010 using two sampling methods: quadrant plots (4x4 m) and acoustic/visual transects. We recorded 22 species of anuran amphibians distributed in six families: Leptodactylidae (3), Craugastoridae (1), Bufonidae (1), Strabomantidae (1), Microhylidae (2) and Hylidae (14). We found ten species of litter frogs in 2560 m of sampled forest floor with the methodology of large plots. In the closed post-beach zone, there were only seven species of anuran leaf litter, while the restinga forest zone present the ten species recorded for the restinga. The overall density of litter frogs at the restinga of Grumari was 13.1 individuals per 100m, more than five of six published studies on the density of litter frogs in the Atlantic Rainforest. The estimated total biomass was 13131 g/100m, being currently the area with highest litter frog biomass on the planet. There was no statistically significant difference between the zones regarding community parameters (richness, density and biomass), even though there is difference between the environmental parameters measured in both zones. The factors that best explained the richness, density and biomass in the restinga of Grumari during the rainy season were, respectively, temperature, diameter of the trees/shrubs and the number of trees/shrubs. The presence of endangered and endemic species indicates that the restinga of Grumari is an important area for conservation of the anuran fauna in remnants of these habitats in the Rio de Janeiro state, being currently the richest known area in terms of amphibian species of all restinga areas in the state, and the second richest of the Brazilian restingas studied up to now.
