The relationship between high density living and fitness performance of elementary school age children

MacKenzie, G. Robin January 1976 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to compare the motor performance and physical fitness of children living in a high density area to that of children living in a low density area. It was hypothesized that children from the Vancouver West End score lower than children from Vancouver and children from Canada on the Canadian Association of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (CAHPER) Fitness Performance Test; that children from apartment floors four to twenty score lower than children living below the fourth floor on the CAHPER Fitness Performance test and the Crawford and Virgin tests; and that there is no difference between the motor performance scores of the children from the West End and the motor performance scores of the children from North York. The elementary school population of the Vancouver West End district was selected to be tested on motor performance and physical fitness test items. The CAHPER Fitness Performance Test and a battery of tests previously used by Crawford and Virgin in North York Ontario were used in the testing. The scores recorded were then compared to the Vancouver CAHPER norms, the Canadian CAHPER norms and the test scores recorded by Crawford and Virgin in their North York study. The findings indicated that West End elementary school age children score lower than Vancouver elementary school age children on the CAHPER Fitness Performance test; that the children living in the West End fall behind their peers in Vancouver in leg power and speed between the ages of seven and twelve; that the girls from the West End do not develop in their agility and cardiovascular endurance at a normal rate; that there was no difference between the scores of the children living on floors one to three and the scores achieved by children living on floors four to twenty; that no difference was found in the motor performance scores of children living in the West End and the scores of the children from North York; that the Fitness Performance scores improve as a child grows older at least to the age of twelve; and that males score higher than females on the CAHPER Fitness Performance test at the same age level. / Education, Faculty of / Curriculum and Pedagogy (EDCP), Department of / Graduate

A comparison between households in houses and households in apartments

Vång, Linnea January 2022 (has links)
Waste has a role in several areas of environmental impact. Previous studies have mainly focused on people's norms linked to waste management and the road from the household to the recycling station. The purpose of this study was to see how households organize their waste. A comparison was made between a residential area with apartments and a residential area with detached houses in the form of a survey. The study showed that there was no significant difference between how residents in apartment buildings experienced source sorting compared with residents in individual houses. Households organized their source sorting according to where there was space. Solutions that worked well were that there were containers for the different waste categories, that there was information at hand, that there was a routine in the household and that everyone in the household wanted to sort at source. What worked less well that there were too few containers or too small, that the space was not enough and that the containers were emptied too infrequently. There was a need for more space, more knowledge, to try to have bags for the most common types of waste or to have a smaller amount of waste.

Já a "Sokol" / I and "Sokol"

Zbellová, Zuzana January 2019 (has links)
Main topic of Diploma thesis is to create a complex project for building a new sport-social complex. Based on a previously handled analysis and presumptive sport-cultural thesis of Sokol architecture, creates a main aim of the project – to proove if this concept of architectural thinking can be applied nowadays even with a contribution of actual economic and social conditions. Plan reacts on development of already built sport buildings, the absence of public area subsistent the downtown of Zlin and problems of traffic in touched area. Plan consists of a complex sport center and a hotel that is closing the north part of touched area with residential area before actual sport complex. Project also includes suggestions for transport infrastructure and public areas in thorough context.

Identifying Opportunities for Digital Tools to Support Energy Advisors Working with Housing Cooperatives / Identifiera möjligheter för digitala verktyg att stödja energirådgivare som arbetar med bostadsföreningar

Samuelsson, David January 2018 (has links)
Living in the modern world is an energy-intensive activity. The residential sector accounts for almost a quarter of Sweden's total energy consumption and many buildings in Sweden are not as energy efficient as they could be. Estimations indicate that the energy consumption of the entire residential sector could be halved if improvements such as improved isolation and updated heating systems were implemented. About 65% of the total energy consumption in apartment buildings comes from heating and water heating. This makes it difficult to influence on an individual level since these systems are managed on a building level. In housing cooperatives which is common in Sweden, such changes take long time and the board managing the building usually lacks relevant competence. All Sweden's municipalities offer free and objective energy advisors to both individuals and companies. This paper examines, through interviews and a field study, how these energy advisors work towards housing cooperatives and if digital tools could in any way facilitate their working process. Four major areas of concern have been identified and a design concept that addresses these issues will be presented. The results indicate that digital tools could lead to more time and resources being put on housing cooperatives that have high potential to make energy savings and help to create longer relationships and offer the right kind of support at the right time.
