The purpose of this thesis is to present and describe which criteria, according to the systemfamily Configuration Management, should be met when developing a CM-tool to handlemigration data.ACT is a tool developed by Microsoft to gather information about, analyze, test and mitigateapplications in a network when migrating the IT-infrastructure of an organization to a newoperating system. The organization that is being studied wants to present the data about theanalyzed applications in such a way, that a customer can choose what to mitigate and migrate.The goal is therefore to develop a prototype (CM-tool) that will present this data.The study has shown that ACT lacks certain requirements stated by the organization when itcomes to presentation. But when it comes to the rest of the functions, ACT performs as expected.The investigation resulted in specifications and technical solution for the new CM-tool. CMcriteriafor migration data was put forth and parts of the prototype were also developed.

Restructuring Wireless Systems using PHY Layer Information

<p>Wireless and mobile systems play an increasingly important role in our lives. Fueled by an array of innovative services and applications, mobile data traffic is surging rapidly. Traditionally, wireless traffic growth is met by acquiring new spectrum. However, wireless spectrum demand is soon going to surpass it's availability. Thus, there is an urgent need for major innovations in wireless network architecture, so that our spectrum utilization can achieve its full potential. Motivated by this problem, we explore an alternative design of physical layer aware wireless systems.</p><p>Typical approaches towards improving wireless performance is confined within the physical (PHY) or link layers of the networking stack, providing only partial so- lutions. In this thesis, we advocate to consider the entire network architecture holis- tically. We show how rich PHY layer information can be utilized to address existing challenges in wireless networking - contention resolution, rate control, interference management, etc. We design, implement, and experimentally evaluate protocols to understand network-wide implications of PHY-aware systems. We also pursue the observation that PHY layer not only encode bits but also contain rich information about the ambience, and hence can be viewed as a sensor. This sensing informa- tion can be further coupled with other phone sensors, thereby benefitting pervasive mobile services and applications. We demonstrate how this synergy can contribute towards designing precise indoor localization systems, an important building block for next generation mobile applications.</p> / Dissertation

INCA: An Infrastructure for Capture and Access Supporting the Generation, Preservation and Use of Memories from Everyday Life

Peoples daily lives and experiences often contain memories and information that they may want to recall again at a later time. Human memory, however, has its limitations and many times it alone may not be sufficient. People sometimes have difficulty recalling salient information and can forget important details over time. To complement what they can remember naturally, people must expend much time and manual effort to record desired content from their lives for future retrieval. Unfortunately, manual methods for capturing information are far from ideal. Over the years, ubiquitous computing researchers have constructed devices and applications to support the automated capture of live experiences and access to those records. At Georgia Tech, we have also investigated the benefits of automated capture and access in over half a dozen projects since 1995. As we encountered challenges in developing these systems, we began to understand how the difficulty of building capture and access systems can prevent exploration of the hard issues intertwined with understanding how capture impacts our everyday lives. These challenges illustrate the need for support structures in building this class of ubiquitous computing systems. This dissertation presents a set of abstractions for a conceptual framework and a focused design process that encourages designers to decompose the design of capture and access applications into a set of concerns that will be easier to develop and to manage. In addition, an implementation of the framework called the INCA Toolkit is discussed, along with a number of capture and access applications that have been built with it. These applications illustrate how the toolkit is used in practice and supports explorations of the capture and access design space.

The media channel strategy of mobile application store

In recent years, due to the popularity of smart phone, the mobile application store are loved by consumers, making an increasing number of about 40 mobile application stores around the world. Mobile applications store offers a wide range of applications, software programs, content and services, such as games, tools, music, entertainment, books, etc., allowing consumers to use free or paid downloads. A variety of choices meets all aspects of consumer demand that changes the original value provided by phone service. However, it is doubly difficult to make one software standing out from the number of the many applications and thus increasing the amount downloaded made by consumers. Even if the store offers different kinds of marketing methods to assist the software increasing exposure opportunities, but still not enough. The goal of this study is going to improve the visibility of the software. After comparing the various media channels, finding the appropriate promotional channel for mobile applications is social media. Then by two cases analyzed understands the marketing effect through social media. By the aforementioned, this study sorts out the appropriate exposure development model of mobile applications software. First, software developers choose the appropriate software to create pages by being promoted software attributes and the media habits of target segments. Second, building blog provides consumers with more complete software and activities information to make up for other types of social media which is not entirely on message passing. Third, the software developer integrates the related sites, including blog, social media, or website to help the update information to be obtained on all relevant sites.

Along with the innovation of mobile reading, there is coming an emerging trend, digital mobile reading in the entire world. Therefore, it is clear that print media is toward to the digital convergence trend. ¡@ ¡@It is iPad, first launch tablet in 2011. Apr., contributed to the highest tablet market share among all for Apple Inc. In the future, tablet is going to be a kind of innovative and leading media tools. For that reason, there are plenty of traditional print media companies plan to launch iPad applications. Then, print media not only becomes the potential novel media technology but also leads the trend of print media transformation. However, print media application at present is still in the primary stage. It is still waiting for market test that print media application could be the main stream or not, in the coming future. ¡@¡@This research, on the basis of Rogers¡¦ ¡§Diffusion of Innovations,¡¨ investigates and analyzes the print media applications. Also, setting United Daily News iPad Application as an example, it is focus on the relationship among the features of the early adopters, demographic variables, perceived characteristics of innovations, lifestyle and the willing of print media applications intension. Through the collaboration between academy and industry, UDN. COM, it is 396 effective samples after collecting that distributes to United Daily News iPad Application and UDN. COM. (digital information area) ¡@¡@The result shows that the profiles of the early adopters using United Daily News iPad Application are middle-aged males, well-educated and high income. It is demographic variables, perceived characteristics of innovations and media usage behavior that significantly impact on the willing of print media applications intension. Further, the lifestyle prototype, much closer to sophisticated and fashionable, life expansionists and preference for foreign products, owns superior adoption intensions to United Daily News iPad Application.

Implementation of a Publish/Subscribe Service

Over the past few years, a growing attention has been paid to the publish/subscribe (pub/sub) communication paradigm which has become the best model for disseminating information (also called events) through distributed systems on wide-area networks. There are many ways to implement the publish/subscribe system architecture. A common way is publishers and subscribers interact through one or more agents called broker. Broker has to store and management subscriptions, match messages, and efficiently delivery messages to subscribers. It also provides reliability and fault tolerant controlling. Obviously, broker is the most important part of the publish/subscribe system. It is usually required to use a lot of resources such as CPU and memory. In this paper, our publish/subscribe service which implemented by ZeroMQ API could service 10,000 subscribers only cost 3% CPU and 5% memory usage. It is a high performance and low costs publish/subscribe service.

Effect of Rate and Season of Application of Aminocyclopyrachlor on the Control of Acacia Farnesiana (L.) Willd. in South Texas

This study was conducted on two rangeland sites in south Texas with large populations of huisache (Acacia farnesiana (L.) Willd.); the Bush Ranch in Goliad County, and the Hitchcock Ranch in Bee County. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effect of three herbicide treatments and three seasons of application on 1) apparent mortality of huisache, 2) huisache canopy cover, 3) huisache stem density, and 4) herbaceous ground cover. Herbicide treatments included aminocyclopyrachlor alone at a rate of 0.315 kg a.i. ha-1, aminocyclopyrachlor + triclopyr at a rate of 0.210 kg a.i. ha-1 + 0.420 kg a.e. ha-1, and triclopyr + picloram at a rate of 0.560 kg a.e. ha-1 + 0.560 kg a.e. ha-1. Herbicide treatments were applied over 3 x 30 m plots containing previously mowed huisache in May, July, and October of 2010 with ground-broadcast equipment at a rate of 140 L ha-1. Randomly selected huisache individuals and herbaceous ground cover at randomly selected points were monitored for the duration of the study. Statistical analyses of huisache mortality, canopy area, and stem densities revealed that at both sites one year after treatment, huisache mortality across the three seasons of application was consistently higher in plots treated with aminocyclopyrachlor + triclopyr (50 to 99%) versus those treated with aminocyclopyrachlor alone (16 to 78%) or triclopyr + picloram (4 to 70%). This mixture also provided the greatest reductions in huisache canopy area (60 to 99% reduction) and stem density (61 to 99% reduction). Also at both sites, spring applications consistently provided the greatest huisache control and canopy and stem reductions. Herbicide treatment and season of application had little effect on post-treatment herbaceous ground cover, likely due to extreme drought conditions in 2011. Of the possible combinations of seasons of application and herbicide treatments, the application in the spring of aminocyclopyrachlor plus triclopyr provided the most desirable results in terms of huisache mortality, canopy reduction, and stem density reduction. However, for sites invaded by huisache that are located near to potentially susceptible crops, the application of aminocyclopyrachlor plus triclopyr or aminocyclopyrachlor alone in the fall after the harvest of those crops may be more appropriate in order to avoid non-target injury while still providing acceptable huisache control.

Component-based software is finally taking off in a big way and component-based application generators have been championed because they can be used to shorten a system¡¦s development cycle and therefore lower its development costs. Component-based application generators are standardardized building blocks that can be used to assemble, rather that develop, information systems (IS). This paper presents a component-based application generator in the restaurant food ordering setting and a requirement modeling methodology for IS construction based on the generator presented. A prototype was assembled using the generator and methodology presented to illustrate the concepts and application. With this approach, system developers or end users can more easily build, modify and maintain their applications.

Development of An Online Marketing Research System

In order to survive well in the rapidly changing and very competitive E-Commerce age, a website manager must discern the customer behavior all the times and carry out the necessary marketing research and therefore proceed the right marketing decisions at the right time. Although the Internet brings a new chance to the small and medium enterprises (SME), it is not easy for them to develop an online marketing research system by themselves due to the scarcity of resources. In order to let the SME have better online marketing capabilities, the purpose of this research is to develop a scaleable, flexible, and portable online marketing research system. What the flexibility means is that users can configure the system and implement the marketing analysis based on their requirements, whereas the scalability means that users can add new items into the available analytical models or new models into the system whenever there is new marketing research requirement. Regarding the portability, it means the system can be used in various system environments. With such a system, the marketing people of SME can carry out the required online marketing research easily without the assistance from IS people.
