Intuitive/spontaneous drawing

Threlkeld, Lynn Dale January 1970 (has links)
This creative project has explored intuitive/spontaneous drawing from one individual's point of view. The study yielded well over one hundred drawings of which six were chosen for discussion. The artist explained his concept of intuitive/spontaneous drawing and discussed his experimentation with various technics and materials. The study explored new drawing media and their relationship to the intuitive/spontaneous process. Three original examples (Figures I, II, and III) were included in the study. These demonstrated some of the materials and technics. The project presents the artist's ideas and feelings about drawing in general and intuitive/spontaneous drawing in particular.

Video dithering

Yu, Jin Nah 30 September 2004 (has links)
In this work, we present mathematical and artistic techniques for the easy creation of artistic screening animations in video resolution by extending the artistic screening technique of adapting various patterns as screen dots for generating halftones. For video dithering, three different animations are needed. One is for screen dots which is a simple black and white animation; another is for the goal (or perceived) animation on the screen; and the other animation is for controlling the color and the size of screen dots. By combining three different animations with video dithering techniques, two animations appear simultaneously on the result video screen and provide complex and unique animation. Our techniques assure creating of aesthetic looking movies by providing frame to frame coherence and avoiding spatial and temporal aliasing that can be caused by low quality of video images. We shows how this technique is a powerful and effective way to create artistic results, by demonstrating variety of video dithering.

Empirical Study of the Healing Nature of Artistic Expression: Using Mandalas with the Positive Emotions of Love and Joy

Henderson, Patti Gail 2012 May 1900 (has links)
Research in positive psychology continues to contribute to the understanding of the significance of human virtues as well as the value that experiencing positive emotions has on individual well-being, including building strengths, broadening resources, and increasing mental health. The benefits that the creative arts have on increasing psychological health and creating positive emotions are also an important but understudied area of research. The purpose of the current study was to examine, in a manner similar to the written disclosure paradigm, how the creation of mandalas while reflecting on the positive emotions of love and joy related to increased psychological well-being, and continued positive affect in a college sample. It was also hypothesized that the mere act of expressing personally felt emotions, regardless of positive or negative, while creating mandalas would reveal a significant increase in psychological and physical health relative to the control condition. Benefits to participants were measured in terms of changes in the variables of post-traumatic stress severity symptoms, depressive symptoms, anxiety, spiritual meaning, the frequency of physical symptoms and illness, as well as positive and negative affect. A series of one-way analyses of covariance (ANCOVA) comparing the experimental and control groups were conducted for all outcome measures at Time 2 and at 1-month follow-up. Results revealed no significant differences between the groups on any of the health measures. Next, a series of ANCOVA were also conducted comparing the experimental and control groups for general positive and negative affect and basic positive and negative emotion before and after each drawing session at Time 1, 2 and 3 as well as at the 1-month follow-up. Although sustained positive emotion was not supported between Time 3 and the 1-month follow-up, participants felt higher general positive affect and basic positive emotion after each drawing session focusing on love and joy. Implications of these results and further research will be discussed.

Specialiųjų poreikių moksleivių meninė socializacija bendrojo lavinimo mokyklos muzikos pamokoje / Artistic socialization of the special needs school children in secondary school music lesson

Jašauskienė, Jurgita 15 June 2005 (has links)
In the process of implementing attitudes of educational reforms, socialization becomes very important which embodiment meets great difficulties such as insufficient teachers’ experi-ence, ignorance of the specific disability and capabilities in certain educational activities (it is obvious, that preparing teachers for secondary schools integration itself is not thoroughly dis-cussed). Therefore, this MBA paper analyses five specific types of disabilities and proposes specific possibilities for them to be integrated in the music lesson activities at comprehensive schools. During the research the hypothesis was confirmed: purposefully organized musical ac-tivities, creating appropriate psychological security atmosphere, is a factor (motive), which en-courages self-confidence of the educated child in his personality powers and positively influ-ences personality development in music activities. Musical education of children with specific disabilities is greatly influenced by economi-cal conditions, democratic society and principles of humanity of education system in Lithuania. This signifies the importance of the theme chosen. Research object – artistic socialization of disabled children aged 9-13. Research hypothesis - purposefully organized musical activities, creating appropriate psychological security atmosphere, is a factor (motive), which encourages self-confidence of the educated child in his personality powers and positively influences personality development. Alien territory : romantic resistance and national identity in films by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger

Moor, Andrew January 2000 (has links)
Michael Powell's and Emeric Pressburger' s films sit untidily within the dominant paradigm of 1940s British Cinema. This thesis examines how far their work partakes in a discourse of nation (and how far it can be referred to as 'British'). It also identifies 'sites of resistance'. In the context of the 1930s and 1940s, Section 1 briefly considers the terms 'nation' and 'national cinema' as hegemonic discursive strategies Section 2 sees Pressburger's immigrant status as introduces the running motif of 'alien territory'. Images of 'Home' are considered in terms of his exile; Powell's aestheticism is discussed, while 'magic spaces' in the films are taken as self-reflexive metaphors for cinema itself. Section 3 focuses on two wartime films, The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp and A Canterbury Tale. These 'narratives of aspiration' are considered in the light of Fredric Jameson's notion of ideology as utopia. Blimp charts the rejection of an old order and the emergence of a hegemonic state. Alluding to Korda's Imperial epics, its construction of masculine authority is examined. With A Canterbury Tale, the pastoral imagining of England is examined, referring to Kipling, while links are made to the British Documentary Movement (especially Humphrey Jennings). In Section 4, the focus shifts to foreignness and hybridity. German elements in 1930s British cinema are charted (and their Romantic/Expressionist credentials). A relatively international cinema is seen to be submerged as a realist cinematic aesthetic establishes itself. The Spy ill Black's gothic antecedents are looked at via the spy genre's engagement with the 'Other'; and Anton Walbrook is studied as an embodiment of a Germanic aesthetic in British cinema. In Section 5, the post-war Technicolor melodramas are examined in the light of the cultural retrenchment post-1945. The representation of women, and the role of spectacle is examined.
