Evaluation Of The Convergent Validity Of The Functional Assessment Informant Record For Parents--Checklist With Other Functional Behavior Assessment Measures With Referred Children In A Clinic-Based Setting

Kazmerski, Jennifer S 11 December 2009 (has links)
Functional behavioral assessment (FBA) is defined as a range of behavior assessment procedures that are used to identify or clarify functional relationships between behavior and environmental events. A variety of methods and instruments are used within a FBA (e.g., record reviews, interviews, rating scales, direct observations, experimental analysis conditions) and the increased awareness of this methodology has created interest in properly investigating the psychometric properties (e.g., reliability, validity) of the measures. Preliminary convergent validity has been demonstrated across some of the measures used to identify functional relationships; however, further evaluation is needed to establish the psychometric properties as well as the utility of functional assessment measures. The primary purpose of the current research was to evaluate psychometric properties of a newly developed informant record (e.g., Functional Assessment Informant Record for Parents-Checklist; FAIR-P-CL). Specifically, the reliability of the measure (i.e., test-retest and inter-scorer reliability), validity of the measures (i.e., convergence with the Functional Assessment Screening Tool-Revised; FAST-R and convergence across phases of FBA), and socially validity (i.e., use of acceptability rating scales) were assessed. Results of the study suggested appropriate test-retest reliability of the FAIR-P-CL. Convergent validity was obtained across all phases of FBA with the majority of participants. The FAIR-P-CL identified the target behavior noncompliance as a multiple function behavior for 4 out of 5 participants suggesting the use of a treatment package in contrast to a specific function-based intervention. Appropriate social validity was obtained across the FAIR-P-CL, assessment and intervention phases of the study. Overall results of the study provided preliminary support for the psychometric properties of the FAIR-P-CL and extended the utility of functional assessment instruments to typically developing children in a clinic-based setting.

Validation of the Forensic Assessment Interview Technique

Gordon, Nathan J. 30 November 2004 (has links)
This research paper has examined the validity of the Forensic Assessment Interview Technique (FAINT). FAINT is a specific interview process - accepted and in current use - integrating the works of this researcher with the works of John Reid, Richard Arther, and Avinoam Sapir. The FAINT technique involves the evaluation of nonverbal behavior, projective analysis of unwitting verbal cues, and statement analysis. The fundamental hypothesis of FAINT is that truthful and deceptive criminal suspects differ demonstrably in their nonverbal, verbal and written communication, when asked to respond to a structured format of interview questions. FAINT maintains that these differences are observable and can be quantified to allow forensic interviewers to make accurate determinations of a suspect's involvement in a crime. This research has examined the validity of the technique as measured by a traditional, unweighted 3 point scale and a weighted scoring system (an issue being researched in this paper) comparatively used for determining truth or deception. This dissertation reports the results of both scoring systems, as well as a comparison between them and the historically used Behavioral Analysis Interview (BAI) that was developed by John E. Reid. / Criminology / MA (Criminology)

Internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy for antenatal depression: dropouts, adherence, symptom remission, and patient-satisfaction with the assessment interview.

Jonasson, Martin, Kullebjörk, Moa January 2022 (has links)
Antenatal depression (depression during pregnancy) affects 10–20% of pregnant women and involves risks for both the pregnant woman and the child. Research shows that internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (ICBT) seems to be effective compared to conventional maternity care. The thesis was a correlational predictive study that was conducted within the randomized DANAstudy for ICBT during antenatal depression. An in-group design with repeated measurements was applied in which 40 women with antenatal depression participated. The purpose was to examine (a) patient-satisfaction with the assessment interview in relation to adherence, dropouts and remissionof depressive symptoms during ICBT treatment, and (b) compare changes in depressive symptoms against two previous studies. The result showed that a higher patient-satisfaction with the assessment interview significantly predicted a lesser reduction of depressive symptoms between screening and pre-measurement. No significant correlations were found between patient-satisfaction with the assessment interview and treatment adherence or dropouts. Conclusions should be drawn with great caution based on methodological limitations. The result also showed that depressive symptoms compared with the pre-measurement decreased significantly from the second weekly measurement in the treatment until the post-measurement week ten. This confirmed the results of previous studies. Future randomized trials may provide a basis for the development of assessment interviews and ICBT for antenatal depression.

Gossou, Komlantse Medakpe 02 1900 (has links)
Despite the strong internal validity of functional analysis, most behavior analysts continue to use descriptive and indirect methods to conduct functional behavior assessment. However, most descriptive and indirect methods have received little empirical support for their convergent validity with functional analysis. The ABC narrative recording and the Open-Ended Functional Assessment Interview (OEFAI) stand out as descriptive and indirect methods that have received some empirical evidence for their convergent validity, but those studies included some limitations. Thus, this dissertation aimed to evaluate more thoroughly these two approaches. The purpose of the first study was to verify the convergent validity of ABC narrative recordings and of the OEFAI with a functional analysis. One hundred seventy-six behavior analysts analyzed ABC narrative and OEFAI transcripts of challenging behaviors in four children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Results show that, for three of four children, the OEFAI conclusions corresponded more with the outcomes of functional analysis than did the ABC narrative recording. Psychoeducators are also involved in the treatment of challenging behaviors in children with ASD. However, we did not find studies that described the performance of psychoeducators in functional behavior assessment. The purpose of the second study was to examine the convergent validity of behavioral functions identified by psychoeducators with the outcomes of functional analysis and to compare them with functions identified by behavior analysts. Fifty-four psychoeducators analyzed the same transcripts used in the first study to identify behavioral functions. Psychoeducators produced more accurate functions when using the OEFAI for three children in four. Behavior analysts were more exact than psychoeducators in four of seven comparisons while the three others remained undifferentiated. Altogether, the results underline the importance of enhancing training in functional behavior assessment for psychoeducators.
