Design of Structures and Clutching Sequences of Combinational Epicyclic-Type Automatic Transmissions for Automobiles

Lee, Su-I 10 September 2009 (has links)
An epicyclic-type automatic transmission is a device which is connected from engine to driving wheels, and the main purpose is to maintain the revolution speed of engine to be in a desired working range while accelerating or decelerating the automobile. The epicyclic -type automatic transmissions in production are mostly Ravigneaux-type epicyclic mechanisms, and in recent year, the development of automatic transmissions for automobile is oriented to the orientation of setting an single epicyclic gear mechanism instead of the input to bring various inputs of revolution speed to increase the total number of speed ratios of an automatic transmission, and such type of epicyclic is called combinational epicyclic-type automatic transmissions for automobiles. For the incompletion in the relative design methodology, a systematic methodology of designing mechanism and clutching-sequence of combinational epicyclic-type automobile transmission is described. First, fundamental principle of the combination and operations of automatic transmissions are analyzed to establish the design requirements. Second, a procedure of structure synthesis of combinational epicyclic-type automobile transmission is brought up which the planar graphic method is applied for. Third, based on Speed Ratio Relationship of each clutching sequence, a procedure of gearing-sequence is introduced. Finally, on the basis of the analytic method, the teeth of gears is to be clarified. The result of this work obtains five types of the combinational epicyclic-type automatic transmissions which could reach six speeds.

Reduction of oil pump losses in automatic transmissions

Larsson, Camilla January 2014 (has links)
In the vehicle industry it is of great interest to reduce the emissions and lower the fuel consumption.Up to now a lot of effort has been put into increasing the efficiency of the engine, but it starts to get expensive to keep improving the engine. In this master thesis the transmissionand especially the oil supply to the transmission is investigated. An example of how the requirements of an oil pump can be decided is described. Knowingthe requirements different pumps may be adapted to meet the demands. The gear pumpused today is compared with a variable displacement pump and an electric pump. The gearpump is not possible to control, but the other two are. A few simple control strategies areintroduced. The strategies are implemented and the three pumps are used in the same drivecycle. It is shown that it is possible to reduce the energy that the pump requires if it isreplaced by a variable vane pump or an electric pump.

Automatic Transmission Power Flow Matrix Representation / Matrisrepresentation av effektflöde i automatväxellådor

Öun, Martin January 2014 (has links)
The project has worked with the function and structure of epicyclical automatic transmissions. The goal of the project has been to find a mathematical way of representing the transmissions setup and possible power flows. Furthermore the project has included the generation of all theoretically possible matrix representations of two simple planetary gear sets in MATLAB as the base for a future optimization model. The result of the project is a large quantity of matrix representations of the two planetary gear sets and their connections and shafts. The result from the MATLAB program has been verified by comparing the structure and the number of solutions to all manually derived setups. The result from the program can be considered to be complete for two planetary gears but to extend the analysis to more complex planetary gears and gearboxes with more than two sets, another method is suggested. The generation process in this project has been rather complex and time consuming. The conclusions drawn from this project is that it is possible to represent many epicyclical automatic transmissions in matrix form. An optimization program based on this type of matrix would simplify the design of new, more complex and more efficient epicyclical transmissions leading to more efficient vehicles.

Transmission Shift Map Optimization for Reduced Electrical Energy Consumption in a Pre-Transmission Parallel Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle

Moore, Jonathan Dean 14 December 2013 (has links)
The use of an automatic transmission in pre-transmission parallel hybrid electric vehicles provides greater potential for powertrain optimization than conventional vehicles. By modifying the shift map, the transmission’s gear selection can be adjusted to reduce the energy consumption of the vehicle. A method for determining the optimal shift map for this hybrid vehicle has been implemented using global optimization and software-in-the-loop vehicle simulation. An analysis of the optimization has been performed using software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop simulation and evaluates two vehicle modes: regenerative braking active and regenerative braking disabled. The results of these two modes illustrate the successful implementation of the global optimization algorithm. However, the evaluation results raise practical concerns about implementing the optimized shift maps in a vehicle and illustrate a problem which must be overcome for future development.

Müller, Jörg 11 May 2011 (has links)

Improved Functionality for Driveability During Gear-Shift : A Predictive Model for Boost Pressure Drop / Förbättrad Funktionalitet för Körbarhet vid Växling : En Prediktiv Modell för Laddtrycksfall

Brischetto, Mathias January 2015 (has links)
Automated gear-shifts are critical procedures for the driveline as they are demanded to work as fast and accurate as possible. The torque control of a driveline is especially important for the driver’s feeling of driveability. In the case of gear-shifts and torque control in general, the boost pressure is key to achieve good response and thereby a fast gear-shift. An experimental study is carried out to investigate the phenomena of boost pressure drop during gear-shift and gather data for the modelling work. Results confirm the stated fact on the influence of boost pressure drop on gear-shift completion time and also indicate a clear linear dependence between initial boost pressure and the following pressure drop. A dynamic predictive model of the engine is developed with focus on implementation in a heavy duty truck, considering limitations computational complexity and calibration need between truck configurations. The resulting approach is based on a mean value modelling scheme that uses engine control system parameters and functions when possible. To be able to be predictive, a model for demanded torque and engine speed during the gear-shift is developed as reference inputs to the simulation. The simulation is based on a filling and emptying process throughout the engine dynamics, and yields final values of several engine variables such as boost pressure. The model is validated and later evaluated in comparison to measurements gathered in test vehicle experiments and in terms of robustness to input and model deviations. Computer simulations yield estimations of the boost pressure drop within acceptable limits. Consid- ering estimations used prior to this thesis the performance is good. Input deviations and modelling inaccuracies are found to inflict significant but not devastating deviations to the model output, possibly more over time with ageing of hardware taken into account. Final implementation in a heavy duty truck ecu is carried out with results indicating that the current implementation of the module is relatively computationally heavy. At the time of ending the thesis it is not possible to analyse its performance further, and it is suggested that the module is optimized in terms of computational efficiency.
