The aim of this study was to verify if Thermography can help in the diagnosis of failures in machine elements, notably self-aligning bearings with 2 rows of balls. The motivation arose from the need to verify the fault points existing in these mechanical elements to minimize and / or eliminate unexpected stops that could compromise the proper functioning of themselves and consequently of the machines of which they are part of. This study is classified as investigative, documentary, prescriptive, qualitative and quantitative. The methodology made use of test bench composed of several mechanical elements: electric motor controlled by frequency inverter, vibration-stop buffers, pulleys and belts, house bearings, radial load, thermal camera and self-aligning bearings with inner and outer race fault in a scenario with control conditions and non-control of ambient temperature, relative humidity, engine speed, air velocity, reflected temperature and emissivity. It was confirmed that there was a significant temperature change in the inner and outer races of groove-type failure bearings. On the other hand, no significant changes were observed in the inner and outer races of the bearing with abrasion wear failure. Finally, it was concluded in this work that the initial hypothesis was partially confirmed, that is, the Thermography can help to detect mechanical failures in groove type failures but not abrasive wear type failures.

Optimisation of the classical semi-autogenous and ball milling circuit using the attainable region technique

Bashe, Luzuko 10 1900 (has links)
The objective of this study was to improve the operation of the classical semiautogenous and ball milling circuit also known as the SABC circuit. In order to achieve this goal, the challenges around this circuit were identified as the formation of critical sized material in a SAG mill. The size class considered for the critical sized material also known as pebbles was -100+23 mm. The attainable region (AR) method was used as an optimisation technique for the generated results using a computer simulation programme. MODSIM® demo version 3.6.22 is ore processing simulator that was used. The research was divided into two sections, the first being the variation of feed flow rate ranging from 50 – 150 tph and ore feed size ranging between 100 and 600 mm. The second section compared the variation of the operating parameters of the SAG mill, which were mill filling, ball filling, ball size and mill speed. The AR technique graphically presented the results which indicated the best operating conditions to minimise pebble formation. The effects of mill filling on a SAG mill indicate that a higher filling produces lower pebbles. Lower pebble generation also was observed at a higher ball filling. The influence of ball size indicated that the larger ball size was more effective in the reduction of pebbles. For mill speed the media displayed two common mode operations namely cascading at a low speed of 65% and cataracting at higher speed of 75%. The higher speed generated the least pebbles. / College of Engineering, Science and Technology / M. Tech. (Chemical Engineering)

Valenta, Jakub January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this master’s thesis is to develop measuring methods for evaluation of the lubrication regime in a rolling bearing. The first part of thesis maps several measuring methods according to which the lubrication mode can be evaluated. Based on the assessment of this part, electrical monitoring methods were selected. For application of these methods was constructed testing device with rolling bearing. Specific measuring chains based on selected methods were designed and verified by using initial tests on a ball-on-disk tribometer. According to the results of these initial measurements was selected and applied suitable measuring chain to the selected test device. In the end, there was a successful measuring the lubrication parameter on the rolling bearing. Additionally, other tests dealing with the influence of temperature and type of oil on the measurement itself were performed.

Analýza mazaného kontaktu poddajných těles / Analysis of lubricated compliant contact

Dočkal, Kryštof January 2015 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the proposal of methodology for film thickness eva- luation within compliant contacts. With respect to characteristics of such contact pairs, like variable film thickness, high surface roughness, or poor conductivity and reflectivity, the usage of conventional experimental methods is particularly complicated. In present study, an optical method based on the principle of fluo- rescent microscopy was employed in present thesis. An evaluation algorithm in- volving background normalization and calibration of fluorescent intensity to film thickness was created in a form of experimental software. The proposed algori- thm was validated by using elastohydrodynamic contact formed between ceramic ball and glass disc. The measured film thickness was compared with theoretical prediction, while very good agreement of obtained data was observed. Further, a series of experiments with compliant samples was conducted, while the central film thickness was evaluated as a function of mean speed, applied lubricant, ap- plied load and slide-to-roll ratio. The last part of the thesis is focused on results analysis and discussion considering the previously published literature.

Silová tonizace v softballu žen / Power tonisation in women's softball

Pfeifer, Jan January 2021 (has links)
Title: The force toning in women's softball Objectives: The aim of this study was to demonstrate post-activation potentiation (PAP) following the muscle toning during the strenght training. The toning effect on upper limb explosive force was analyzed following application of two different degrees of resistence. Methods: In this study, we applied randomized selection for the subject to minimize the effect of possible ambiguities such as gender, training status, and player maturity. A homo- -geneous group of well-trained women with the most developed technical response was accepted. (Czech national team, Women's softball). We used the contrast method, where the data were analyzed to determine the effect of different resistance degrees and a fixed rest interval for the strength-dynamic exercise. It is a sticking out of medicine ball in sitting position, which was performed by women of the highest player level. The measurement was processed by using the direct method of dynamic efforts. We compared the explosive force with a medicine ball sticking forward in relation to the distance of the sticking medicine ball by the tested person. Results: The measurement has shown that the PAP generated by toning protocol has a sig- -nificant impact on enhancing the response in explosive drills. The exercise for...

Utformning av en Bollutslungare : Produktutvecklingsprojekt av en bollutslungare för hundsporten Flyball / Development of a ball launcher : Product development project of a ball launcher for the dog sport Flybal

Johansson, Jimmy January 2016 (has links)
This report is a product development project of a ball launcher as requested by Sörmons HundklubbLKk. The project har been carried out as a thesis for the Bachelor of Science for the Innovation anddesign engineer program at Karlstad University. The client wished to begin training in a dog sport called Flyball. This sport can be likened to a relayrace where two teams of dogs race against each other. One dog per team runs along a path, leapingover obstacles, up to a ball launcher. When the dog jumps at the ball launcher to stop its momentumand turn back, a ball, launched about two feet, is to be caught by the dog. The dog then returns thesame way along the track as it came to switch with the next dog on the team. The last dog who finishfirst wins for their team.Due to large costs when importing a ball launcher, and the product not being available in Sweden, the client wanted a Swedish version developed. The goal was to minimize the price with the criterionto maximize longevity. The work of the project has followed the product development process as studied at KarlstadUniversity, with great influence by idea generation techniques, analog and digital sketching, 3Dmodeling and mechanical drawing techniques. Construction of the prototype has been carried out inthe workshop at Karlstad University with an evolutionistic design approach. A combination of lateralthinking for creativity and vertical thinking for logic and confirmation was used throughout theproject. The result of the project was a prototype that could be tested in a real environment at the dog cluband was confirmed to function as desired. Due to the availability of material at the workshop, construction of the ball launcher was possible at no cost to the client. This was a request, althoughnot a requirement for the project. The client also wanted to keep the prototype which was constructed to use within the club fortraining purposes. Therefore the ball launcher was completed to a finished prototype after projectclosure.

Program evaluation of baccalaureate nursing programs : at one and five years after graduation

Kelich, Catherine E. January 1993 (has links)
Administration and faculty are now being held accountable for the learning process in educational programs at the institutional level. The purpose of this study was to describe and compare baccalaureate graduates' perceptions of Ball State University School of Nursing's education program and employers' perceptions of those graduates. This study also examined graduates demographic characteristics such as, personal information, education, professional practice, and professional activities. Stufflebeam's (1966) CIPP Model for evaluation was utilized as a theoretical framework. A convenience sample of all graduates of 19881990 one year after graduation and 1986-1987 graduates five years after graduation and employers willing to participate completed the questionnaires and/or demographic sheet. The perceptions of graduates towards Ball State University School of Nursing's educational programs and employers'perceptions towards the graduates were examined in descriptive design.A list of names was received from Ball State University's Alumni Office. Questionnaires were coded and mailed with a cover letter and a stamped, self-addressed envelope. All participants were informed of rights as human subjects and the confidentiality of this study. A cover letter informed subjects of procedures, risks, and benefits. Ball State University's Institutional Review Board granted permission to conduct the study. The findings of this study of one and five year postgraduates lead to the general conclusion that Ball State University's baccalaureate nursing program has been successful. These findings are consistent with those found in the literature. In general, the graduates expressed satisfaction with all aspects of the baccalaureate nursing education. The findings from the instrument to measure employers' perceptions (one and five years after graduation) were positive. Approximately three fourths of employers indicated the graduates functioned at above expected levels in regards to communication, nursing, leadership skills, andprofessionalism. The graduates had a successful transition into practice, and employers were satisfied with the graduates' performances. / School of Nursing

Medication management among Medicare eligible Ball State retirees

Reich, Heather M. January 2008 (has links)
This study investigated the personal medication management practices of some Medicare eligible university retirees and their dependents. This is important since older adults often take multiple medications and are more susceptible to adverse reactions and interactions. The general hypothesis regarding where retirees medications are obtained and their understanding of their use was not supported. Responses to the research questions revealed a higher level of understanding and compliance than previously reported by others. Also, they are unlikely to participate in an employer sponsored educational intervention. This may be related to the educational level of the sample. Suggestions for future research including sample selection, questionnaire wording and scaling are discussed. / Fisher Institute for Wellness and Gerontology
