Změny regulatorních pravidel v návaznosti na finanční krizi v USA / Regulatory changes in response to the financial crisis in the US

Hosan, Pavel January 2010 (has links)
The main topic of this diploma thesis is a response of the American administration and its legislation to the financial crisis which took place between the years 2007 and 2009 and the resulting changes in the financial markets regulatory rules in the United States. The aim of the thesis is to analyze specific individual sections of the well-known Dodd-Frank Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act and its impacts on the banking sector in the US. The first part of the thesis deals with the analysis of main causes of the so-called mortgage financial crisis of the first decade of the 21th century. Numerical evidence shows the impacts into the real economy and channels through which the crisis had spread into financial markets worldwide are also described. The following sections contain in-depth description and analysis of changes in regulatory legislation and rules governing the US banking and other financial institutions.

Studies in Bank Contagion: Three Regulatory Events

Springstube, Woodard R. (Woodard Rex) 05 1900 (has links)
This research describes an analysis, using event-study methodology, of the reaction of the stock returns of a sample, drawn from the one-hundred largest bank holding companies, to certain actions of regulatory agencies. The first part of the analysis examines the reaction of the bank stocks to the closure of the Bank of New England, using cross-sectional variables not previously examined by other investigators. The second event considers the invalidation of interest-rate swap contracts by the British Law Lords, the highest court in Britain. The third case is an examination of the effects of actions taken to enforce the Community Reinvestment Act. All three events have significant abnormal returns in at least one sub-sample and event window. The results of the cross-sectional analysis and the lack of response to later events are consistent with market efficiency in the semi-strong form. The results are also consistent with the hypothesis that regulatory policies that emphasize consistency and banking system safety are desirable.

Tři eseje o bankovních odhadech kreditního rizika / Three Essays on Bank-Sourced Credit Risk Estimates

Štěpánková, Barbora January 2021 (has links)
The aim of the thesis is to bring new insights into banks' internal credit risk estimates and their application in estimation of credit transition matrices, which are an important part of credit risk modelling with limited publicly available sources. The doctoral thesis consists of three essays that jointly analyse features of bank- sourced credit risk data and practicalities of transition matrices estimation. In the first essay, I empirically test two assumptions widely used for estimation of transition matrices: Markovian property and time homogeneity. The results indicate that internal credit risk estimates do not satisfy the two assumptions, showing evidence of both path-dependency and time heterogeneity even within a period of economic expansion. Contradicting previous findings based on data from credit rating agencies, banks tend to revert their past rating actions. The second essay analyses the extent to which transition matrices depend on the characteristics of the underlying overlapping bank-sourced credit risk datasets and the aggregation method. It outlines that the choice of aggregation approach has a substantial effect on credit risk model results. I also show that bank-sourced transition matrices are more dynamic than those produced by credit rating agencies and introduce industry-specific...

El efecto del capital reglamentario y el requerimiento de depósito sobre el Margen de interés neto en el sistema bancario peruano durante el periodo dic2010 - dic2019 / The effect of capital requirements and deposit requirements on the net interest margin in the Peruvian banking system during the period Dec2010 - Dec2019

Grandez Vasquez, Greys Natividad 30 July 2020 (has links)
This paper investigates the effect of capital requirements and deposit requirements on the net interest margin of the Peruvian banking system in the period Dec 2010 - Dec 2019 using a data panel of 15 banks. This study is based on the extension of the theoretical model proposed by Ho-Saunders (1981) and carried out by Cruz-García and Fernández de Guevara (2019), where they include capital and deposit requirements as important determinants of the financial margin or spread. The econometric analysis used the GMM system methodology, developed by Arellano and Bond (1991), Arellano and Bover (1995) and Blundell and Bond (1998), and through this methodology the results show that capital requirements directly affect the interest margins of banks, and this implies that the additional costs derived from regulation are transferred to families and companies through higher interest margins. Also, bank-specific variables, such as average operating costs, size of operations, credit risk, and the degree of competition of banks are relevant in determining net interest margins and have an important impact on it. / Trabajo de investigación

Financing of Innovation in SMEs

Dastory, Linda January 2018 (has links)
This licentiate thesis consist of two essays. Both essays deal with corporate finance and its impact on innovation investment. In the first essay we use German Community Innovation Survey to identify financially constrained firms. Contrary to previous studies we find that the relationship between financial constraints and firm size is inverted u-shaped and that it is the group of medium sized firms which has the largest funding gaps. This is explained by the fact that these firms have high innovation capabilities but at the same time face high cost of capital. Furthermore, we test if financial constraints have an impact on firm productivity growth. We find negative effects from funding gaps on productivity, but only for investment in tangible capital and not for innovation investments. The second essay investigates whether there has been a change in the productivity and funding mix of innovative SMEs post stricter bank regulations. Our result shows that the likelihood of using bank loans as a funding source has not changed for innovation investments nor for tangible investments after stricter capital regulations have been announced. On the other hand, sources such as subsidies have increased due to regulatory programs that have been implemented in the aftermath of the recent financial crisis. Furthermore, SMEs productivity has not changed post stricter bank regulations. Overall, the impact from different sources of funding on productivity is rather limited. /
QC 20180110

Právní regulace činnosti bank / Legal regulation of the activities of banks

Dudrová, Kateřina January 2017 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the regulation of the activities of banks, which has already been relatively extensive but as a result of the most recent financial crisis, it has been extended by new rules and requirements. The aim of this thesis is to clarify the essence of the basic obligations of the banks related to the entry into the banking sector and to working in the sector, and last but not least to leaving the sector and to the termination of the banking activity. All these obligations are then amended by new requirements for crisis management and the insurance of deposits, which are also based on prudential and precautionary principles and aim at maintaining the security and stability of the banking sector. This thesis is divided into six individual chapters but they are connected with each other. The initial chapter defines the key concept of this thesis, namely the concept of the bank from the legal perspective because the legal definition of the bank is slightly different than the economic definition. This thesis as well enumerates the forms of legal regulation that can be used in this area of law, whether it concerns directly applicable European legislation, primary or delegated legislation or non-binding statements and recommendations of regulators. Then the following chapters deal...
