Yes / Children’s hospices provide a range of family-centred care services, including bereavement support. Not all hospices provide specific services for grandparents. To explore how a hospice-based bereavement support group supported grandparents in their grief following the death of a grandchild. Methods: Grandparents attending a group were invited to complete an anonymous questionnaire. Questionnaires from eight groups, run between 2015 and 2019 were collated and interpreted to identify themes. Findings: 121 grandparents attended the groups; 113 returned the questionnaires (93% response). Three central themes were identified: environment and space, being with people who understand, and the opportunity to hear the stories of others. Grandparents valued hearing the stories of others, providing an opportunity to reflect on the experience of others. Conclusion: Grandparents felt supported and validated by the group. The facilitated sessions increased coping and resilience of participants, enabling grandparents to support their partner, adult children and surviving grandchildren more effectively.

Thesis (MTh) -- Stellenbosch University, 1996. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Grief pastorate often has the shortcoming where the ministry strategy focuses more on short term involvement than a long term accompaniment. The minister's involvement necessarily focuses on the crisis around the initial shock phase. The duration of the grief process is hardly predictable. The pastor must therefore follow a long term approach. This long term approach must set about in earnest with the interdependence of the grief process on the one hand and on the other hand a growth process. Such an approach can be characterised as a pastoral growth model where Clinebell's growth model is used as the basis. The aim of this pastoral growth model is the development of spirituality. Spirituality is understood as the total human life in communion with God and that includes the following aspects: Identity, intimacy, sinfulness, lordship, mortality, holiness and commitment. Through the holistic character of spirituality the mourner is addressed in totality- in his or her total humanness. This eliminates the danger where the pastorate is guilty, on the one hand of emphasis of the spiritual aspect, on the other hand the human aspect of man. A pastoral growth model for the development of spirituality during grief is a comprehensive, well-grounded pastoral model which could be made use of successfully during grief pastorate. / AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Rousmartpastoraat het dikwels die tekortkoming dat die bedieningstrategie meer op korttemyn betrokkenheid ingestel is as op 'n langtermyn begeleidingsproses. Die predikant se betrokkenheid fokus hoofsaaklik op die krisis random die aanvanklike skokfase. Die duur van die rouproses is moeilik voorspelbaar. Die pastor moet daarom 'n langtermyn benadering volg. Hierdie langtermyn benadering moet erns maak met die interafhanklikheid van enersyds die rouproses en andersyds 'n groeiproses. Locus of Control (LOC) is operationalized as a dispositional trait remaining stable throughout life, but may also be conceptualized as a domain specific state. Widowed persons' support groups, consisting of recently conjugally bereaved older adults (N=22) and one high functioning, long-term widowed peer group leader, were utilized to test LOC malleability. A significant increase in one State measure subscale, Desire for Control, was noted. Trait LOC remained stable. The change in State and Trait LOC change did not significantly relate to psychological symptom reduction. However, Trait LOC Internality related to fewer symptoms whereas State LOC Internality related to more symptoms.

The subject of this diploma thesis is to analyze and describe the specific experiences of three caregivers with a home hospice care using chosen qualitative research method. It try to find answers to questions about why these people chose home hospice care, in what they see its positives and negatives and what obstacles and problems need to be overcome during care. The first part focuses on the characteristics of home hospice care, the introduction of various concepts of bereaved and mapping support for caregivers. In the second part is done phenomenological investigation of experiences of these three participants of research.

This thesis "The Needs of Parents during End-of-Life Care for Terminally Ill Child" deals with the needs of families in which a child had died from a serious illness. The main goal of this thesis is to map the needs of parents caring for a terminally ill child during the course of the illness, the time of dying, and after the death of the child. The thesis also analyses the source of risk factors occurring while parents cope with care provision. The theoretical part of this thesis focuses on the loss of a child. The opening chapter is devoted to paediatric palliative care, including an assessment of the current situation in the Czech Republic. Based on the available sources, grief theories are described. Furthermore, the effect of the death of a child on the family is mapped, including the impact on the parent's relationship and the way parents cope with their grief. The last section of this part covers the possible reactions of parents to their loss. The empirical part detects the needs of parents caring for a terminally ill child. It maps the mechanisms which help parents to cope when caring for their child or dealing with their loss. Studiens syfte är att utifrån professionellas erfarenheter undersöka hur vuxnas sorgeprocesser yttrar sig samt hur de professionella bemöter sörjande personer. Undersökningen baseras på professionellas erfarenheter och kunskaper om sorgeprocesser. Sju semistrukturerade intervjuer har genomförts med professionella som alla i sin yrkesroll möter vuxna i sorg. En tematisk analys har använts och fem teman framkom: vuxnas sorgeprocesser, förhållningssätt gentemot sörjande, lyssnande och validerande stöd, stöd i sorgen och verktyg i professionen. För att analysera resultatet användes Kübler-Ross teori om sorgens fem faser och begreppet komplicerad sorg. Kübler-Ross teori fokuserar på sorgeprocessens faser. Den komplicerade sorgen fokuserar på när sorg kvarstår med patologiska symptom. I resultatet framgick att de professionella upplevde sorgeprocessen som dynamisk och kontextbunden. Professionellas främsta förhållningssätt i bemötande har bland annat presenterats vara värderingsfritt och anpassat. Professionella har uttryckt att vuxna människor i sorg behöver ett icke tidsbegränsat, närvarande och anpassat stöd. Dessutom har professionellas utbildning och erfarenhet visat sig utgöra verktyg i professionen och vara nyckeln till ett adekvat och gynnsamt sorgestöd. / The purpose of the study is to examine professional’s experiences of adult’s grieving processes and how they treat bereaved people. Seven semi-structured interviews were conducted with professionals who all in their professional role meet adults in grief. A thematic analysis was used and five themes emerged: adults' grieving processes, attitudes towards grieving, listening and validating support, support in grief and tools in the profession. To analyze the results, Kübler-Ross' theory of the five phases of grief and the concept of complicated grief were used. Kübler-Ross theory focuses on the phases of the grieving process. The complicated grief focuses on when grief persists with pathological symptoms. The results showed that the grieving process of adults was experienced by professionals as dynamic and context-bound. Professionals' main approach towards grieving people has been presented as neutral and context dependant. Professionals have expressed that grieving adults need support that is not time limited and characterized by presence and adapted support. Furthermore, professional´s education and experiences have been shown to be elements in the profession that is key to adequate and beneficial bereavement support.
