Lundqvist, Isabelle, Nilsson Lowén, Isabell January 2019 (has links)
Background: In Sweden during the year of 2017, 1544 persons committed suicide. Many of these were young people aged 15-29 and most of them were men. Reactions to the suicide vary depending on in which phase the bereaved is currently in. Suicide may cause suffering, which affects the suicide survivors’ health. Aim: The aim of this literature review was to investigate young and adult suicide survivors’ health, experiences of and need of support after losing a significant other to suicide. Method: In this literature review 14 scientific original articles of both qualitative and quantitative method from the databases PubMed, Cinahl and PsycINFO were used. The articles were quality assessed and analysed according to the aim of this study. The results were presented in three categories and seven subcategories. Result: Friends and family were the greatest source of support. Support groups were also valuable. Experiences of the input from the health care system varied but in overall a wish that it would become better at initiating contact with the suicide survivors were seen. Internet forums composed a valuable source of support, though with both positive and negative experiences. Suicide bereaved children felt forgotten both at home as well as by the health care system. The suicide survivors physical and mental health were both affected. Conclusion: Suicide may cause suffering, which could affect the suicide survivors’ health negatively. Many wished for more support from the health care system and that it would become better at noticing and offer help to the survivors. Many suicide survivors have an increased need of support after suicide. Further research about the suicide survivors’ experiences is desirable.

Dohnalová, Zdeňka January 2016 (has links)
The Role of Spirituality in the Process of Grief and Bereavement from the Perspective of Bereavement Counsellors Abstract The objective of this study is to determine the role of spirituality in the process of grief and bereavement from the perspective of bereavement counsellors. The text is divided into three parts: theoretical, methodological and analytical. The theoretical part conceptualizes basic terminology of the main issue and gives the context. The methodological part describes the methods used in the research, which was conducted through qualitative research strategy using semi-structured interviews. In the analytical part I compare the results of the research with the theoretical roots. The participants of the research believe that spirituality to be a factor which positively influences the lives of the bereaved and makes their grief and mourning easier to bear. However, they also see that spirituality can make the life situation more complicated or affect their lives ambiguously. Keywords death, spirituality, bereavement, counselling for the bereaved, accompaniment
