Det är vi som ska läsa : En studie av skolelevers syn på delaktighet i ett skolbiblioteks beståndsarbete. / We are the ones who are supposed to read : A study of how students view their participation in the collection management of a school library.

Forne, Gustav January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate how students in a Swedishjunior high school (grade 7-9) view their possibility to participate in thecollection management of their school library, and how the schoollibrary works to involve the students when purchasing media. The studyhas resulted in a model for easy and effective involvement of studentsin the collection development. To achieve this aim both quantitative and qualitative methods are used.A survey in three classes in the school, observations at the schoollibrary and a qualitative interview with the library assistant have beenperformed. The collection management at the school library isdescribed using the School Library Taxonomies developed by DavidLoertscher and two models for participation developed by Roger A Hartand Harry Shier. In the survey, the students are asked about their libraryand reading habits, their perception of their own participation in thecollection management of the library and their opinions of theimportance of student participation in the library. The results show that all students view the possibility of participation as something important, but not all of the students are willing to be active themselves. The proposed model for effective involvement of students in the library focuses on simplicity, voluntariness, distinct information and visible results.

A qualitative study on collection and collection management at five hospital libraries’ children and youth sections

Elfving, Johan, Engman Fingal, Sandra January 2008 (has links)
The main purpose of this thesis was to examine the collection management at five different hospital libraries´ children and youth’s section to discern different roles of the collections. We made qualitative interviews with five hospital librarians. The purpose was also to see how the collection development affected the different roles of the collections. We used two theories. One involves six dimensions of collection development and the other involves the purposes of collections which are divided in to four different roles. The hospital librarians had the users in mind when working with the collections. The users have different needs, not only because they are children and young people but also because they are patients. We could see that many different circumstances had an impact on the collection development, such as limited and narrow spaces, short treatment times for patients and low circulation on children and youth material. The three roles we could distinguish were the Dispensing role, the Advisory role and the Symbolic role. The librarians tried to have a diverse range of materials to satisfy the different needs. The librarians made certain collections visible by different headlines that would appeal to the users. We could see that materials with medical substance were prioritized in many ways. This material is important for both patients and the medical staff. Medical material also justified the patient hospital libraries existence in times when the medical libraries get more and more space. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Regnbågsfamiljers upplevelse av bibliotekens bilderboksbestånd / Rainbow families experiences of libraries picture books collection

Ljunggren, Caroline, Perman, Lovisa January 2024 (has links)
The aim of this master’s thesis is to develop knowledge about rainbow families self-perceived family identity in relations too their experience of the library's picture book collection. The lack of research about rainbow families’ experiences of the picture book collection and the undertaking of lgbtq-perspectives of the library motivates this study. This quality study was based on a web survey and was answered by adults of rainbow families. The empirical data was analyzed through thematic analysis and theoretical framework drawn from Axel Honneth’s theory of recognition and the notion of literature as mirrors and windows as understood by Rudine Sims Bishop. Recognition is seen as necessary for the positive develop of identity and is based on the notion that every human needs recognition from others to obtain a positive relationship with self. The result shows that the picture book collection is perceived positively and valuable and can allow recognition when aspects of representation, diversity and awareness of norms are reflected in the collection and included in the work of the library. These aspects include representation of rainbow families and lgbtq-identities, inclusion of diversity, and awareness of social norms regarding families and gender. The result also acknowledge that the rainbow families experience somewhat lack of representation, diversity, and awareness of norms in the collection which affects the strengthening of the identity. The self-perceived family identity can be seen strengthen when the families wishes regarding representation, diversity and norms are meet in the library’s work with the picture book collection.
