Investigação morfológica e elétrica da interface da heterojunção SnO2/ZnO /

Albuquerque, Diego Aparecido Carvalho January 2019 (has links)
Abstract: This work presents the analysis of the interface between thin films of zinc oxide (ZnO) and tin oxide (SnO2). Morphological and electrical properties were investigated regarding this heterojunction. The deposition of the films was performed using the RF magnetron sputtering technique. The surface morphology was investigated and characterized by profiling and Scanning Electron Microscopy with Field Emission Gun Techniques. The main objective of this research is to evaluate the SnO2/ZnO interaction, since this compound has potential for applications in photovoltaic cells. In these applications the SnO2 acts as a electron transport layer presenting as a main effect the increase in the recombination time of the electron-hole pair, generated when the photovoltaic cell is submitted to incidence of light. For this investigation SnO2 films of different thicknesses were deposited on a reference ZnO film. In addition, the electronic properties of ZnO were evaluated to ensure that it behaves as a transparent conducting oxide (TCO), which enables its application in photovoltaic cells. The system produced presented characteristics that suggests it is a promising material for the aforementioned applications. / Doutor

Multi-Cell Admission Control for WCDMA Networks

Azzolin de Carvalho Pires, Gustavo January 2006 (has links)
It has long been recognized that in multi-cell WCDMA networks the admission of a new session into the system can have undesirable impact on the neighboring cells. Although admission control algorithms that take into account such multi-cell impact have been studied in the past, little attention has been paid to multi-cell admission and rate control algorithms when traffic is elastic. In this thesis, we propose a model for multi-cell multi-service WCDMA networks to study the impact of multi-cell admission and rate control algorithms on key performance measures such as the class-wise blocking and outage probabilities, block error rates, and the noise rise violation probabilities. By means of simulation we compare the performance of load based multi-cell algorithms with that of a single cell algorithm. We find that with multi-cell based algorithms the system capacity and performance (in terms of the above mentioned measures) are (in some cases significantly) better in homogeneous load scenarios as well as in the heterogeneous ’hotspot’ and ’hotaround’ scenarios.

Optimization of the Mainzelliste software for fast privacy-preserving record linkage

Rohde, Florens, Franke, Martin, Sehili, Ziad, Lablans, Martin, Rahm, Erhard 11 February 2022 (has links)
Background: Data analysis for biomedical research often requires a record linkage step to identify records from multiple data sources referring to the same person. Due to the lack of unique personal identifiers across these sources, record linkage relies on the similarity of personal data such as first and last names or birth dates. However, the exchange of such identifying data with a third party, as is the case in record linkage, is generally subject to strict privacy requirements. This problem is addressed by privacy-preserving record linkage (PPRL) and pseudonymization services. Mainzelliste is an open-source record linkage and pseudonymization service used to carry out PPRL processes in real-world use cases. Methods: We evaluate the linkage quality and performance of the linkage process using several real and near-real datasets with different properties w.r.t. size and error-rate of matching records. We conduct a comparison between (plaintext) record linkage and PPRL based on encoded records (Bloom filters). Furthermore, since the Mainzelliste software offers no blocking mechanism, we extend it by phonetic blocking as well as novel blocking schemes based on locality-sensitive hashing (LSH) to improve runtime for both standard and privacy-preserving record linkage. Results: The Mainzelliste achieves high linkage quality for PPRL using field-level Bloom filters due to the use of an error-tolerant matching algorithm that can handle variances in names, in particular missing or transposed name compounds. However, due to the absence of blocking, the runtimes are unacceptable for real use cases with larger datasets. The newly implemented blocking approaches improve runtimes by orders of magnitude while retaining high linkage quality. Conclusion: We conduct the first comprehensive evaluation of the record linkage facilities of the Mainzelliste software and extend it with blocking methods to improve its runtime. We observed a very high linkage quality for both plaintext as well as encoded data even in the presence of errors. The provided blocking methods provide order of magnitude improvements regarding runtime performance thus facilitating the use in research projects with large datasets and many participants.

A Comparison of the Traditional, Swing, and Chicken Wing Arm Movements on Volleyball Blocking in NCAA Division 1 Female Athletes

Neves, Taubi J. 08 March 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Blocking is highly correlated with team success. The identification of specific techniques that produce a more successful block would be helpful knowledge for coaches and players. This study compared the traditional, swing, and chicken wing arm swings in combination with the running step footwork pattern in order to determine which arm swing enabled athletes to perform a more effective block. The time it took the athletes to get off the ground and get their hands above (vertically) the net was calculated. The distance the hand reached over the net or hand penetration (displacement between the net and finger in the anterior and vertical planes) was also measured. Lastly, jump height was calculated. High-speed videography was used to capture the blocking movements of thirteen female NCAA Division I athletes. Data were analyzed using a repeated measures ANOVA test, pairwise comparison, and co-variate analysis. The chicken wing block arm swing was quickest in getting the athlete off the ground and getting their hands above the net. The swing block was greatest for hand penetration and jump height. These results can help coaches and players decide which arm swing will benefit them most as a blocking team and as individual blockers.

Recommendations for Design Parameters for Central Composite Designs with Restricted Randomization

Wang, Li 26 September 2006 (has links)
In response surface methodology, the central composite design is the most popular choice for fitting a second order model. The choice of the distance for the axial runs, alpha, in a central composite design is very crucial to the performance of the design. In the literature, there are plenty of discussions and recommendations for the choice of alpha, among which a rotatable alpha and an orthogonal blocking alpha receive the greatest attention. Box and Hunter (1957) discuss and calculate the values for alpha that achieve rotatability, which is a way to stabilize prediction variance of the design. They also give the values for alpha that make the design orthogonally blocked, where the estimates of the model coefficients remain the same even when the block effects are added to the model. In the last ten years, people have begun to realize the importance of a split-plot structure in industrial experiments. Constructing response surface designs with a split-plot structure is a hot research area now. In this dissertation, Box and Hunters' choice of alpha for rotatablity and orthogonal blocking is extended to central composite designs with a split-plot structure. By assigning different values to the axial run distances of the whole plot factors and the subplot factors, we propose two-strata rotatable splitplot central composite designs and orthogonally blocked split-plot central composite designs. Since the construction of the two-strata rotatable split-plot central composite design involves an unknown variance components ratio d, we further study the robustness of the two-strata rotatability on d through simulation. Our goal is to provide practical recommendations for the value of the design parameter alpha based on the philosophy of traditional response surface methodology. / Ph. D.
