The embodiment of subjectivity in contemporary Maghrebi and French cinemas

Davies Hayon, Kaya January 2015 (has links)
This thesis examines a cluster of recent films that feature people of Maghrebi heritage and position corporeality as a site through which subjectivity and self-other relations are constituted and experienced. These films are set in and between the countries of the Maghreb, France and, to a lesser degree, Switzerland, and often adopt a sensual aesthetic that prioritises embodied knowledge, the interrelation of the senses and the material realities of emotional experience. However, despite the importance of the body in these films, no study to date has taken corporeality as its primary point of concern. Existing research in French and Francophone Studies focuses almost exclusively on the socio-political issues raised by the phenomenon of French “beur” cinema (films by and/or about young Maghrebi-French people), meaning that there has been no extended scholarly investigation into the importance of corporeality in recent films featuring people of Maghrebi heritage. Underpinned by an interdisciplinary theoretical framework that interweaves corporeal phenomenology with theological and feminist scholarship on the body from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), this thesis seeks to provide the first longitudinal and comparative account of how Maghrebi people of different genders, ethnicities, sexualities, ages and classes have been represented corporeally in post-millennial Maghrebi and French cinemas. Via its acute focus on images of people of Maghrebi heritage and how their representations show them engaging with their environments through their bodies, this thesis is the first to apply the recent turn to corporeal phenomenology in Film Studies and feminism to critical interrogations of Maghrebi identities in Maghrebi and French films since the new millennium.

Nihilismus, Sprache und Wahrnehmung : Zur Anthropologie Lacans und Merleau-Pontys

Kraus, Anja January 2000 (has links)
In my doctoral thesis, I diversify so-called deviant behavior of children by means of a critical concept of nihilism and lead them back to a certain intellectual origin, namely, to the idealistic thinking tradition, which leads to the Philosophy of Lack and Not. I see this philosophy in the theories of Lacan and Merleau-Pontys, diametrically opposed to the idealistic thinking tradition. Departing from the ineradicable non-consciousness of man, Merleau-Ponty works out the laws of perception and Lacan the laws of language. As I refer to these authors and to the Philosophy of Not, my investigation proceeds not simply from the human capacity to be educated, but from the fact that in certain cases this capacity is to be yet established. The Philosophy of Not, complemented by the methodology of a cartography of negative experiences developed by the artist Robert Smithson, open up new surprising theoretical approaches to (educational) practical challenges. Starting from the laws recognized by Merleau-Ponty and Lacan, an explanation and possible forms of dealing with nihilistic behavior can be derived.

Att brottas med musiken : En självstudie i erfarandet av dynamik utifrån ett solostycke / To wrestle with the music : A study in dynamics experience through a solo piece

Möller, Marta January 2018 (has links)
In order to find out and become aware of my own use of dynamics and the use of it in performance, I have made a study on this. The purpose is based on several comments during master classes and lessons, as I have always been told that I never express enough dynamics in the performed piece. My research is based on the experience of my own practice and the development of big dynamic contrasts in the flute piece Density 21.5 byEdgard Varése. I also explore and look at the influences of the room acoustic and the matter it has on the actual dynamic. The background research emphasizes how dynamics are gaining importance through history, how to use dynamics on the flute, previous research that has been made on the study of pieces and acoustics and also the theoretical perspective of body phenomenology by Merleau-Ponty. The method chapter clarifies the structure of the study and how practice situations have been highlighted through logbook, audio- and video recording. This has then been analyzed through detailed body phenomenology and an attempt has also been made to clarify factors that can improve my own dynamic control and its experience. Finally, there is a discussion which brings up how habits and activities of the body affect the experience in both practice and performance.

Jóga jako nástroj k vědomému tělu z pohledu fenomenologického pojetí tělesnosti / Yoga as a tool for the conscious body from the point of view of the phenomenological concept of corporeality

Pulda Nagy, Sophia Jaroslava January 2020 (has links)
Diploma thesis "Yoga as a tool for the conscious body from the perspective of the phenomenological concept of corporeality" deals with corporeality, the phenomenology of the body and yoga as a tool for finding the harmony of the conscious body. The introduction of the thesis explains the importance of this topic from the perspective of the society-wide concept and also explains the motivation of the author to its processing. The historical background dealing with the Cartesian conception of the body based on Descartes' dualism was described in the theoretical part. The next chapter in the theoretical part was devoted to the comparison of concepts from Cartesian and yoga meditation, and description of the phenomenology of corporeality in Merleau-Ponty. The chapters dealing with the issue of increasing psychic tension in children and youth and the resulting need to deal with the care of the soul were emphasized. The importance of yoga as a meaning of restoring stability was explained in a separate chapter. Individual types of asanas and their effect on the human body were described there as well. The effects of yoga on health in selected research publications were discussed in the practical part along with foreign researches by contemporary scientists and researchers from the ranks of psychologists,...
