"Mimo stezku": Kulturní reprezentace Krále Šumavy / "Out of the Path": Cultural Representations of the King of Šumava Mountains

KÖLBL, František January 2017 (has links)
The thesis deals with literary and film representations of "The King of the Šumava Mountains" and stories which themes are close to this topic (converters, protection of national border). The thesis pursues the interconnection of particular works with their period context and medialization. The attention is also put to the intertextual "communication" within the works themselves and to the relationship between individual characters of "The King of Šumava Mountains" and archetypes of the contemporary world. The emphasis is placed on the analysis of the film (and the novel of the same title) The King of the Šumava Mountains alongside the prose books The Death of the King of the Šumava Mountains and The Return of the King of the Šumava Mountains. The conclusion articulates the same and the different features of individual representations which are often narrowly connected to the time of its inception.

Problematika periferních oblastí v České republice (se zaměřením na Znojemsko) / The problems of peripheral regions in Czech Republic (region Znojemsko)

Gregorová, Alena January 2009 (has links)
The dissertation focuses on problems of peripheral regions in Czech Republic, mainly on region Znojemsko, which is situated near border with Austria. The theoretical part treats of universal concepts of peripheral regions, defines peripheral regions in Czech Republic and tries to find their typical signs. There are also mentioned strategical documents of regional policy. The aim of these documents is balanced and sustainable development of the Czech Republic without regional disparities. Next part describes the region Znojemsko and identifies peripheral villages in this region. Contemporary situation of these villages is evaluated by socioeconomic analysis, which helps to determine opportunities for future development.

"Goodness and Mercy"

Craggett, Courtney, 1986- 05 1900 (has links)
The stories in this collection represent an increasingly transcultural world by exploring the intersection of cultures and identities in border spaces, particularly the Mexican-American border. Characters, regardless of ethnicity, experience the effects of migration and deportation in schools, hometowns, relationships, and elsewhere. The collection as a whole focuses on the issues and themes found in Mexican-American literature, such as loss, separation, and the search for identity.

Die deutsch-polnische und die US-mexikanische Grenze

Witt, Andrea 08 July 2003 (has links)
New studies on regionalism often regard border regions and cross-border cooperation as symbols of a new quality within international relations. Since this is seen as proof of the growing decentralization of political decision-making processes and the transnationalization of foreign relations, increasing political clout is being attributed to transboundary interaction. However, such research approaches tend to ignore existing dependencies and developments which strengthen the negative image of border regions as conflict-prone and problematic. At the same time, the handling of border policies continues to be dominated by classical security-related concerns and is still decided by traditional diplomatic stake-holders. Furthermore, new border-related questions surface, based on complex interdependencies between regional and national levels as well as in the supranational and international realms. In response, this study expands the general research parameters to determine the following questions: if and how decentralized border coalitions act within the range of binational relations; whether or not they can intervene independently; what influence they have on increasingly integrated foreign policies; and in which political arenas cooperation is most likely. Independent variables beyond the local and regional level are used as points of reference regarding lasting cross-border networks. These include the state of bilateral relations, national and transcontinental integration concepts, socio-cultural conditions, and the degree of political drive towards establishing binational multileveled networks. The German-Polish and the U.S.-Mexican border regions serve as case studies. The goal is to define the political playing field, and to outline the depth and limitations of border-regional coalitions beyond local and regional demands. Two unique policy-fields are analyzed security issues which are traditionally handled by state actors on the one hand, and infrastructure, regional development, and environmental issues on the other. Special attention is given to the different strategies of European and Northamerican integration initiatives and developments.

Ranges of consideration: crossing the fields of ecology, philosophy and science studies.

Dinneen, Nathan 12 1900 (has links)
Environmental issues are often complex with many different constituents operating according to a broad range of communication techniques. In order to foster negotiations, different perspectives need to be articulated in lucid ways sensitive to various viewpoints and circumstances. In my thesis I investigate how certain approaches to environmental discourse effect dialogue and negotiation. My first two chapters focus on environmental problems surrounding rangeland ecology along the U.S./Mexico border; whereas the last two chapters explore more theoretical conflicts concerning the philosophy of nature. Throughout the thesis I show the significance of nonhumans (prairie dogs, cattle, biological assessment sheets, environmental laws, etc.) in the human community. Only by considering the roles of nonhumans do we broaden and enrich the conversation between ourselves concerning environmental issues.

Vývoj osídlení ve zvolených lokalitách v příhraničním regionu

MICHÁLKOVÁ, Tereza January 2019 (has links)
The topic of the thesis is the development of settlement in the borderland, especially in Prachatice region. The thesis is divided into literary and practical part. The literary part is divided into five chapters. In the first two chapters, the reader is familiarized with the concept of the borderland, then with the term Sudetenland. Furthermore, the literary part deals with the history of settlement in our country, beginning with prehistoric times, through the arrival of the Slavs, great colonization, the Hussite war, the Thirty Years' War, the abolition of serfdom and also it focuses on historical evolution of the 20th century. Furthermore, the history of settlements focuses on the settlement in the Bohemian forest (well-known as Šumava in czech language), where the reader is primarily informed about the period of occupation and post-war events. At the end of the literary part there is an overview of factors that influenced rural development until now. The main part of the thesis is mainly practical. It is based on the family tree of the author and focuses on the villages where the family lived or still has been living. Some villages have been saved and preserved after the World War II., some villages were destroyed and disappeared from the maps after the Germans moved away. The practical part maps each of these villages, describes their development and records how the villages looked on the maps of land and cadestral register and how they have changed into today's form during history.

Áreas de risco para a ocorrência de hanseníase e sua relação com os determinantes sociais em município da região de fronteira Brasil, Paraguai e Argentina / Areas of risk for the occurrence of leprosy and its relation to social determinants in a municipality in the border region between Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina

Assis, Ivaneliza Simionato de 27 May 2019 (has links)
Enquanto, as pessoas de raça/cor parda (? Os achados podem contribuir para nortear ações em saúde que auxiliem no combate e controle da hanseníase nesta região de fronteira / Leprosy is still a public health problem and a challenge for endemic countries, especially in border regions where migration flows are intense. The study aims to identify the risk areas for the occurrence of leprosy and to verify its relation with the social determinants in Foz do Iguaçu-PR. An ecological study that considered the new cases of leprosy reported in Foz do Iguaçu from 2003 to 2015 and the units of analysis were the urban census sectors. A descriptive analysis of the new cases was performed in order to identify the risk areas for the occurrence of leprosy, the spatial and time-spacial scanning statistics were used and the spatial scan and Kernel intensity estimator were used to identify areas of risk for disabilities. The investigation of spatial dependence was verified through Global Moran, Getis-Ord G and Gi *. The Global Bivariate Moran Index (IMBG), Minimum Squares Regression (OLS) and Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) were used to verify the association of social determinants and the risk of illness due to leprosy. 840 cases were reported, where the detection rate of new cases in men was 25.6/100,000 inhabitants and 24.9/100,000 inhabitants for women, there was a predominance of yellow color / race (78.6/100,000 inhabitants), age group >=60 years (71.5/100,000 inhabitants) and incomplete elementary school (60/100,000 inhabitants). Areas at risk for leprosy and degree of disability 2 were concentrated in the South, East, North and Northeast Health District of the city; regions, characterized by high population density and poverty. The social determinants of income (IMBG: 0.1273, p = 0.001), number of residents (IMBG: 0.0703, p = 0.008), households without basic sanitation (IMBG: 0.0743, p = 0.025) (IMBG: 0.0976, p = 0.04), black color/race (IMBG: 0.1017, p = 0.002) and native color/race (IMBG: 0.0976; p = 0.005) presented a positive correlation with the risk of leprosy. The regression analysis revealed that the proportion of households with monthly household income per capita greater than a minimum wage (? = 0.025, p = 0.036) had the lowest risk of illness due to leprosy. While people of black race/color (? = -0.101, p = 0.024) are at higher risk of illness due to leprosy. The results of the study indicate that there is an association between the social determinants and the risk of illness due to leprosy in the city under investigation. The investment in public policies to improve income distribution can favor the change of this framework. The findings may contribute to health actions that help combat and control leprosy in this border region

Karlsson, Marianne January 2008 (has links)

Transboundary protected areas are a fairly recent concept that have been increasing in popularity and are increasingly being integrated into large international organizations’ environmental policy making. This essay examines the phenomena through the cooperation between two national parks, Parc National des Pyrénées in France and Parque Nacional Ordesa Monte Perdido in Spain. The theoretical framework used in this essay is based upon border theory, focusing on the different factors that influence the behavior of the border dweller and how the different social conceptions of nature influence the way it is managed. The results in this study result from researching published and private documents from the national parks and interviews carried out with staff from the park administrations from both countries. The collaboration between these two national parks dates back twenty years and the cooperation has been carried out in many small projects. Historical ties between the villages in the border region, which also shares a common culture and lingual heritage, have inspired the cooperation. There are also economical benefits that influence the collaboration, such as the European Union’s regional policy that provides funds for transboundary cooperation. A mutual world heritage site, Pyrénées – Mont Perdu, is also situated within the parks’ territories, which should be managed conjointly by the national parks. However, an in-depth and well-integrated cooperation has not been found, as difference in the nature and how the organizations themselves are managed and regulated has generated a long and complicated course for decisions regarding cooperation. It appears that even if nature itself might be boundless, the national jurisdictions that prevail over nature are clearly adhered to and there are no available transboundary structures designed to handle a cooperation of this kind.
/
