The past decade has witnessed dramatic changes in the oil and gas industry with the drilling and production extending into progressively deeper waters and higher operating pressures, therefore making it essential to gain a better understanding of the behaviour of gas hydrate at high pressure conditions.
New experimental 3-phase H−LW−V (Hydrate−Liquid Water−Vapour) equilibrium data for nitrogen and H−LW−V (Hydrate−Liquid Water−Vapour) and H−LW−LHC (Hydrate−Liquid Water−Liquid Hydrocarbon) data for ethane and propane simple clathrate hydrates were generated by a reliable fixed-volume, isochoric, step-heating technique. The accuracy and reliability of the experimental measurements are demonstrated by comparing measurements with reliable literature data from different researchers. Additional experimental data up to high pressure (200 MPa when available) for CH4, C2H6, C3H8, i-C4H10, N2, Ar, Kr, Xe, H2S, O2, CO and CO2 clathrates have been gathered from literature.
The Valderrama modification of the Patel-Teja (VPT) equation of state combined with non-density-dependent (NDD) mixing rules is used to model the fluid phases with previously reported binary interaction parameters. The hydrate-forming conditions are modelled by the solid solution theory of van der Waals and Platteeuw. Langmuir constants have been calculated by both Kihara potential as well as direct techniques. Model predictions are validated against independent experimental data and a good agreement between predictions and experimental data is observed, supporting the reliability of the developed model.

Sol-gel synthesis of vanadium phosphorous oxides for the partial oxidation of n-butane to maleic anhydrideSalazar, Juan Manuel January 1900 (has links)

Hohn / Vanadium phosphorous oxide (VPO) is traditionally manufactured from solid vanadium oxides by synthesizing VOHPO[4subscript][dot in middle of line]0.5H[2subscript]O (the precursor) followed by in-situ activation to produce (VO)[2subscript]P[2subscript]O[subscript]7 (the active phase). These catalysts considerably improve their performance when prepared as nanostructured materials and this study discusses an alternative synthesis method based on sol-gel techniques capable of producing nanostructured VPO. Vanadium(V) triisopropoxide oxide was reacted with ortho-phosphoric acid in tetrahydrofuran (THF). This procedure yielded a gel of VOPO[4subscript] with interlayer entrapped molecules. The gels were dried at high pressure in an autoclave with controlled excess and composition of THF-2-propanol mixtures. The surface area of the obtained materials was between 50 and 120 m[2superscript]/g. Alcohol produced by the alkoxide hydrolysis and incorporated along with the excess solvent reduced the vanadium during the drying step. Therefore, after the autoclave drying, the solid VOPO[4subscript] was converted to the precursor; and, non-agglomerated platelets were observed. Use of additional 2-propanol increased the amount of precursor in the powder but reduced its surface area and increased its crystallite size. In general, sol-gel prepared catalysts were significantly more selective than the traditionally prepared materials, and it is suggested that the small crystallite size obtained in the precursor influenced the crystallite size of the active phase increasing their selectivity towards maleic anhydride. The evaluation of these materials as catalysts for the partial oxidation of n-butane at 673 K under mixtures of 1.5% n-butane in air yielded selectivity of 40% at 50% conversion compared to 25% selectivity at similar level of conversion produced by the traditionally prepared catalysts. Variations in the catalytic performance are attributed to observed polymorphism in the activated materials, which is evidenced by remarkable differences in the intrinsic activity. All precursors and catalysts were characterized by IR, XRD, SEM and BET, and the products of the catalytic tests were analyzed by GC.

De par ses propriétés uniques, le motif cyclopropane est largement répandu dans les composés bioactifs et d’intérêt pharmaceutique. Des efforts d’envergure ont été déployés pour accéder directement à des cyclopropanes substitués. La recherche présentée dans cette thèse décrit de nouvelles méthodes de préparation de cyclopropanes polysubstitués et leur application pour la synthèse de bicyclo[1.1.0]butanes.
Pour accéder à une variété de cis-iodocyclopropanes, une zinciocyclopropanation diastéréosélective a été développée en utilisant les réactifs hétéro-dihalocarbénoïdes récemment décrits par le groupe Charette. La procédure a été simplifiée, notamment en augmentant la concentration. L’utilisation de ces nouvelles conditions a permis d’élargir considérablement l’étendue et l’efficacité de la réaction.
Bien que leur synthèse soit difficile, les petits systèmes carbobicycliques rigides possède une réactivité unique en tant qu'intermédiaires pour des molécules complexes. Les iodocyclopropanes cis issus du premier projet ont été utilisés pour la synthèse de bicyclo[1.1.0]butanes riches en électrons et substitués aux positions 2-, 2,2- et 2,4. Comme la nature et la position des substituants est opposées à celles des bicyclo[1.1.0]butanes précédemment développés, ces composés peu étudiés jusqu’à maintenant, ont une réactivité intéressante.
À l'aide d'un précurseur de carbène diiodosilylméthylboronate, une gem-borosilylcyclopropanation organocatalysée et activée par la lumière visible a été développée et appliquée à de nombreux dérivés du styrène. Cette méthode a permis la préparation de borosilylcyclopropanes 1,1,2-tri- et 1,1,2,2-tétrasubstitués avec un excellent contrôle diastéréosélectif. Différentes réactions de post-fonctionnalisation soulignent la versatilité de cette nouvelle entité.
En complément, une gem-borosilylcyclopropanation rapide et efficace médiée par micro-ondes sans catalyseur a été développée. Cette méthode est une alternative aux conditions développées en photochimie. / The cyclopropane moiety is prevalent in bioactive compounds and drug candidates due to its unique properties. Extensive effort has been made to develop straightforward access towards highly substituted cyclopropanes. The research presented in the thesis describes new methods for polysubstituted cyclopropanes and their application in the preparation of bicyclo[1.1.0]butanes.
To access a variety of cis-iodocyclopropanes, a diastereoselective zincocyclopropanation using modified conditions was developed by applying hetero-dihalocarbenoids recently reported by the Charette group. The procedure increased the reaction concentration, streamlined the process, and improved the efficiency of the reaction. The substrate scope was significantly expanded using the newly developed conditions.
Strained small carbobicyclic systems are valuable synthons for complex molecules despite their challenging synthesis. The cis-iodocyclopropanes resulting from the first project were applied in the synthesis of electron-rich 2–, 2,2– and 2,4–substituted bicyclo[1.1.0]butanes. Since the nature and the position of the substituents were opposite compared to previously developed bicyclo[1.1.0]butanes, the underexplored scaffolds exhibited different reactivity.
The organocatalyzed visible-light mediated gem-borosilylcyclopropanation of styrene derivatives was developed using a diiodosilylmethylboronate carbene precursor. The method enabled the preparation of 1,1,2-tri– and 1,1,2,2–tetrasubstituted borosilylcyclopropanes with excellent diastereocontrol. Post-functionalization reactions highlighted the synthetic versatility of the novel entities.
A catalyst-free microwave-assisted time-efficient gem-borosilylcyclopropanation reaction was complementary developed, offering an alternative to photochemistry.

[pt] Neste trabalho foi desenvolvida a síntese de novos análogos do tipo N-tosil-aza-carbapterocarpanos com potencial ação antiproliferativa em linhagens de leucemia e mama.Os compostos aza-carbapterocarpanos e espiro-iso-indolinas, foram preparados através de abordagens sintéticas distintas e classificadas em Grupo I e II respectivamente. A etapa chave para obtenção dos compostos do grupo I foi a reação de aza-arilação do tipo Heck catalisada por paládio a partir de tetralonas comerciais e N-tosil-iodoanilinas substituídas previamente sintetizadas. Três moléculas deste grupo foram avaliadas quanto a sua ação antiproliferativa em linhagens de leucemia e mama. Dentre estas, o composto N-tosil-aza-carbaptercarpeno apresentou IC50 = 1,93 (mais ou menos) 0,88 micrômetros, 2,18 (mais ou menos) 1,47 micrômetros e 2.89 (mais ou menos) 0,92 micrômetros nas linhagens de leucemia K562, lucena-1 e FEPS, respectivamente, e na linhagem de mama MDA-MB-231 IC50=33.37 (mais ou menos) 3.98 micrômetros. Por outro lado, o composto aza-carbapterocarpeno foi inativo nestas mesmas linhagens, indicando que na ausência do grupo arilsulfonamida a ação antileucêmica não ocorre. Os compostos do grupo II, denominados espiro iso-indolinas, foram sintetizados através da adição diastereosseletiva de organomagnesío às N-terc-butano-sulfiniliminas quirais, seguida de uma aminação de Buchwald-Hartwig intramolecular catalisada por paládio. As N-terc-butano-sulfiniliminas foram obtidas através de tetralonas, cromanonas e tiocromanonas comerciais em uma reação de condensação com as N-tert-butanosulfinamidas comerciais em micro-ondas em uma abordagem livre de solvente utilizando tetraetóxido de titânio. Após as reações de adição nucleofílica com organomagnésio, remoção do auxiliar quiral e ciclização intramolecular, os compostos forma obtidos enantiomericamente puros e foram avaliados em linhagens de leucemia K562 e FESP. Embora estes compostos tenham apresentado baixa potência frente às linhagens testadas (IC50 entre 31,85 mais ou menos 3.0 micrômetros e 77,58 (mais ou menos) 5.76 micrômetros), pôde-se observar que há diferenças relevantes entre os enantiômeros, assim o como apresentam sensibilidade colateral, atuando em linhagens multiresitentes. / [en] In this work, the synthesis of new N-tosyl aza-carbapterocarpane analogues with potential antiproliferative action in leukemia and breast cell lines was developed. The aza-carbapterocarpanes and spiro-isoindolines compounds were prepared using different synthetic approaches and classified in Group I and II respectively. The key step for obtaining group I compounds was the palladium catalyzed Heck-type azaarylation reaction from commercially synthesized substituted tetralones and substituted N-tosyl iodoanilines. Three compounds of this group were evaluated for their antiproliferative action in leukemia cell lines and breast cancer cells lines. The compound N-tosyl-aza-carbaptercarpene presented IC50 = 1,93 0,88 , 2,18 (plus or minus) 1,47 micrometers e 2.89 (plus or minus) 0,92 micrometers. On the other hand, the aza-carbapterocarpene compound was inactive in these same lines, suggesting the role of the absence of the arylsulfonamide group for the antileukemic activity does not occur .The group II, denominated spiroisoindolines, were synthesized by diastereoselective addition of organomagnesium to chiral N-tert-butane sulfinylimines, followed by a palladium catalyzed intramolecular Buchwald-Hartwig amination. The N-tert-butane sulfinylimines were obtained through commercial tetralones, chromanones and thiochromanones by the condensation reaction with commercial N-tert-butanesulfinamides in a solvent free sistem using titanium tetraethoxide. After nucleophilic addition reactions with organomagnesium, chiral auxiliary removal and intramolecular cyclization, the compounds were obtained enantiomerically pure and were evaluated in K562 and FESP leukemia lines. Although these compounds presented low potency compared to the tested lines (IC50 between 31.85 (plus or minus) 3.0 micrometers and 77.58 (plus or minus) 5.76 micrometers), it was observed that there of them present relevant differences between enantiomers as soon as collateral sensitivity, acting in leukemia multiresistent cell lines.

L’objectif de ce travail de thèse était la préparation et la caractérisation des hétéropolyanions anhydres sur supports oxydes par la stratégie de chimie organométallique de surface. Les acides anhydres H3PMo12O40 et H3PW12O40 ont été préparés sur silice partiellement déshydroxylée. Cette réaction conduit à une interaction ionique par protonation des silanols de surface. La réactivité de ces hétéropolyacides anhydres en présence d’alkylsilanes a été étudiée en milieu homogène et a conduit à la formation d’espèces silylées cationiques [Et2MeSi+]3[HPA3-] et au dégagement d’hydrogène. Cette réactivité a ensuite été appliquée en milieu hétérogène en fonctionnalisant la surface de la silice par des groupements [(≡SiO)SiMe2H] et a conduit à la formation d’une espèce de surface polyoxometalate liée de manière covalente au support. L’introduction de fonction chloroalkylsilane à la surface de la silice [(≡SiO)SiMeCl2] et [(≡SiO)2SiMeCl] a également permis de former des liaisons covalentes Si Support-O-M HPA. Par ailleurs, Par ailleurs, l’activation du méthane a été observée sur tous les solides HPA/SiO2 à travers le dégagement de CO2, H2O, H2. Anhydrous H3PMo12O40 and H3PW12O40 were prepared on partially dehydroxylated silica. This reaction led to an ionic interaction by protonation of surface silanols. The reactivity of these heteropoly compounds with alkylsilanes was studied in homogeneous conditions and led to the formation of cationic silicon species [Et2MeSi+]3[HPA3-] and release of hydrogen. This reactivity was then applied in heterogeneous conditions by introduction of silane groups [(≡SiO)SiMe2H] at the silica surface and led to the formation of a surface polyoxometalate species covalently bonded to the support. The introduction of chloroalkylsilane groups [(≡SiO)SiMeCl2] and [(≡SiO)2SiMeCl] has also enabled the formation of covalent bonds Si Support-O-M HPA. In addition, methane activation was observed on all HPA/SiO2 solids through the releases of CO2, H2O, H2. The C-H activation takes place on these systems even at low temperature and obtained data suggest the formation of a methoxy surface species by reaction of stronf acidic protons with methane

Evaluation de nouvelles matrices organiques biosourcées sans styrène pour composites SMC / New styrene-free bio-based organic matrices for SMC compositesCousinet, Sylvain 05 December 2013 (has links)
De par leurs bonnes propriétés mécaniques, leur faible densité, leur faible coût, et leur bel aspect de surface, les composites SMC (Sheet Molding Compound) sont des matériaux de choix pour réaliser des pièces automobiles semi-structurelles. Ces matériaux sont principalement constitués d’une résine polyester (UPR), d’un additif thermoplastique comme agent anti-retrait, de carbonate de calcium comme charge et de fibres de verre coupées comme renfort. Le contexte environnemental et socio-économique actuel encourage les constructeurs automobiles à utiliser des matériaux issus de ressources renouvelables afin de réduire l’utilisation des réserves pétrolières, et de trouver une alternative au styrène (COV, polluant atmosphérique dangereux et potentiellement cancérigène) qui est utilisé comme diluant réactif (DR) dans les UPR. L’objectif de ce travail est de développer une matrice organique biosourcée (UPR et agent anti-retrait) pour composite SMC moulable par le même procédé de mise en forme et présentant le même niveau de performance comparé à l’existant pétrosourcé. La première partie de ce travail est consacrée à l’évaluation de nouveaux diluants réactifs biosourcés (MMA, BDDMA, BDDVE, EDI, IBOMA et LMA) comme substituants du styrène sur la base des contraintes liées au procédé SMC. Les résines sélectionnées ont ensuite été polymérisées et les réseaux obtenus caractérisés. Le mécanisme de copolymérisation a été étudié et a permis de mettre en évidence l’influence de la nature chimique des insaturations et de la fonctionnalité du DR sur les propriétés finales du réseau. De par sa faible viscosité, sa faible volatilité et son point éclair élevé, le BDDMA est un bon candidat pour remplacer le styrène dans les UPR. La partie suivante est consacrée à la caractérisation d’un prépolymère polyester insaturé et de différents agents anti-retrait biosourcés. Des matrices organiques ont été formulées avec différents agents anti-retrait, puis polymérisées et caractérisées. L’influence de la nature et du taux d’agent anti-retrait sur le retrait de polymérisation et les propriétés mécaniques a été évaluée. Des essais sur composites SMC à l’échelle pilote ont été réalisés afin d’étudier les propriétés finales des composites biosourcés. La meilleure compensation du retrait est obtenue pour l’additif de plus faible Tg, c'est-à-dire le polyester saturé biosourcé. Le réseau à base de BDDMA étant très fragile, la suite de ce travail a consisté à réduire la densité de réticulation du réseau en introduisant un monométhacrylate biosourcé dans la formulation (MMA, IBOMA et LMA) afin d’améliorer les propriétés au choc du matériau. Enfin, un nouveau DR biosourcé, le lévulinate de vinyle, a été évalué comme substituant du styrène dans les UPR. Le mécanisme de copolymérisation a été mis en évidence et relié à la structure et aux propriétés finales du réseau. / Due to their good mechanical properties, low density, low cost and good surface properties, SMC composites (Sheet Molding Compound) are suitable for manufacturing half-structural automotive parts. These materials are mainly based on a unsaturated polyester resin (UPR), thermoplastics as low profile additives, calcium carbonate as filler and chopped glass fibers. Current environmental and socio-economic concerns motivate automotive manufacturers to use bio-based materials in order to reduce the use of crude oil reserves and to find an alternative to styrene (VOC, hazardous air pollutant, potential carcinogen) which is used as reactive diluents (RD) in UPR. The aim of this work was to develop a bio-based organic matrix (UPR and low profile additive) for SMC composites with a similar processability and same level of performances compared to petroleum-based analogs. The first part of this work describes the evaluation of new bio-based reactive diluents (MMA, BDDMA, BDDVE, EDI, IBOMA and LMA) as styrene substituents for UPR, taking into account SMC process requirements. Selected resins were polymerized and the obtained networks characterized. Copolymerization mechanism was studied and allowed to highlight the influence of the chemical nature of unsaturations and the functionality of reactive diluents on network properties. Due to its low viscosity, low volatility and high flashpoint, BDDMA is a good candidate to replace styrene in UPR. Next part was dedicated to the characterization of bio-based unsaturated polyester and low profile additives. Several organic matrices were formulated with different low profile additives, then polymerized and characterized. The influence of the low profile additive nature and content on the polymerization shrinkage and mechanical properties of the material was evaluated. SMC composites were manufactured at the pilot scale and characterized in order to study the final properties of bio-based composites. The best shrinkage control is obtained with low-Tg additive (bio-based saturated polyester). Nevertheless BDDMA-based network is very brittle, so a next step of our work was to introduce a monofunctional methacrylate (MMA, IBOMA and LMA) into the matrix in order to decrease the crosslink density of the network and improve its impact resistance. The influence of the methacrylate nature and content on the structure and mechanical properties of the polyester networks was highlighted. Finally, a new bio-based RD, vinyl levulinate, was evaluated to replace styrene in UPR. Its copolymerization mechanism with UP was studied and related to the structure and mechanical properties of the network.

Atualmente, o tipo de propelente para produtos em aerossol mais usado no mundo é uma mistura de hidrocarbonetos leves (butano e propano - sendo o primeiro em maior proporção). Parte de seu processo de produção é a dessulfurização do butano líquido, através de adsorção em leito fixo usando peneiras moleculares 13X. A literatura científica não apresenta muitas publicações sobre o tema e considerando que a técnica de adsorção é fortemente dependente de dados experimentais para seu maior entendimento, é objetivo deste trabalho estudar este processo através do equilíbrio de adsorção, das curvas de ruptura e do desenvolvimento de um modelo matemático que represente o funcionamento de uma coluna de adsorção de leito fixo a temperatura constante. Obtiveram-se dados sobre o equilíbrio de adsorção por meio de ensaios em banho finito comparando-se a interação de diferentes compostos de enxofre com a peneira molecular 13X e o efeito da temperatura. Utilizou-se a técnica de cromatografia gasosa como método analítico para obtenção dos teores de compostos sulfurados e de hidrocarbonetos. O modelo de Langmuir apresentou bom ajuste aos dados experimentais. Avaliando-se a interação dos componentes sulfurados com a zeólita 13X, identificou-se diferenças significativas, sendo a maior em ordem decrescente: etil-mercaptana, n-propil-mercaptana e terc-butil-mercaptana, respectivamente. A dinâmica do processo de adsorção foi estudada através da obtenção das curvas de ruptura em leitos em escala laboratorial e piloto. Avaliaram-se as influências da variação da concentração de entrada da n-propil-mercaptana e da velocidade do fluido em leito fixo recheado com zeólitas 13X, mantendo os demais parâmetros constantes. Conforme esperado o aumento da concentração inicial reduz o tempo de ruptura, aumenta a quantidade total adsorvida pelo leito e não altera o comportamento da zona de transferência de massa (ZTM). Analisando-se a elevação da velocidade, nota-se também uma diminuição no tempo de ruptura e um aumento da ZTM. O modelo matemático apresentado considera os balanços de massa microscópicos aplicados ao leito, os fenômenos de transporte de massa com modelo de dispersão axial e transporte por convecção da fase líquida para a superfície da partícula e as isotermas de adsorção. As equações diferenciais parciais resultantes foram adimensionalizadas e resolvidas empregando-se o método de diferenças finitas, implementado por código Matlab®. A partir da simulação matemática das condições experimentais obtiveram-se os parâmetros de dispersão axial e de transferência de massa que possibilitaram uma boa reprodução do tempo de ruptura quanto do perfil da zona de transferência de massa para os experimentos em escala laboratorial e piloto. / Currently, the kind of propellant for aerosol products most widely used in the world is a blend of light hydrocarbons (butane and propane - the first in greater proportion). Part of the production of propellant is the desulfurization of liquid-phase butane by molecular sieves 13X in a fixed bed. The scientific literature concerning the adsorption of the mercaptans using zeolite are scarce and considering that the adsorption technique is strongly dependent on experimental data for its better knowlegde, the aim of this work was to study this process by adsorption equilibrium, the breakthrough curves and the development of a mathematic model, simulation and comparison with the operation of a fixed-bed pilot and laboratory-scale column. Adsorption equilibrium parameters were obtained using finite bath experiment and comparing the interaction of different sulfur compounds with molecular sieve 13X and the temperature effect. It was used the gas chromatography as an analytical method in order to obtain the levels of hydrocarbons and sulfur compounds. The Langmuir model well fit the experimental data. Significant differences were identified in the interaction of the sulfur components with zeolite 13X. The major interactions of the sulfur components are in decreasing order: ethyl-mercaptan, n-propyl-mercaptan and terc-butyl-mercaptan. The dynamic of the adsorption process was studied by obtaining the breakthrough curves in laboratory and pilot scale. It was investigated the influence of the initial concentration of n-propyl mercaptan and the fluid velocity in a fixed bed packed with zeolite 13X keeping the other parameters constant. As it was expected, as the inlet sulfur concentration increases the break point time decrease, and enhances the total amount adsorbed by the bed. Analyzing the increase in velocity on the breakthroug profile, it was noted that also decreases the break point time and causes a greater decline of the curve resulting in greater ZTM and anticipating the bed saturation time. From mathematical simulation of experimental conditions it were obtained the axial dispersion parameters and mass transfer coefficient which allowed a fair agreement in predicting break point time and the mass transfer zone profile.

Atualmente, o tipo de propelente para produtos em aerossol mais usado no mundo é uma mistura de hidrocarbonetos leves (butano e propano - sendo o primeiro em maior proporção). Parte de seu processo de produção é a dessulfurização do butano líquido, através de adsorção em leito fixo usando peneiras moleculares 13X. A literatura científica não apresenta muitas publicações sobre o tema e considerando que a técnica de adsorção é fortemente dependente de dados experimentais para seu maior entendimento, é objetivo deste trabalho estudar este processo através do equilíbrio de adsorção, das curvas de ruptura e do desenvolvimento de um modelo matemático que represente o funcionamento de uma coluna de adsorção de leito fixo a temperatura constante. Obtiveram-se dados sobre o equilíbrio de adsorção por meio de ensaios em banho finito comparando-se a interação de diferentes compostos de enxofre com a peneira molecular 13X e o efeito da temperatura. Utilizou-se a técnica de cromatografia gasosa como método analítico para obtenção dos teores de compostos sulfurados e de hidrocarbonetos. O modelo de Langmuir apresentou bom ajuste aos dados experimentais. Avaliando-se a interação dos componentes sulfurados com a zeólita 13X, identificou-se diferenças significativas, sendo a maior em ordem decrescente: etil-mercaptana, n-propil-mercaptana e terc-butil-mercaptana, respectivamente. A dinâmica do processo de adsorção foi estudada através da obtenção das curvas de ruptura em leitos em escala laboratorial e piloto. Avaliaram-se as influências da variação da concentração de entrada da n-propil-mercaptana e da velocidade do fluido em leito fixo recheado com zeólitas 13X, mantendo os demais parâmetros constantes. Conforme esperado o aumento da concentração inicial reduz o tempo de ruptura, aumenta a quantidade total adsorvida pelo leito e não altera o comportamento da zona de transferência de massa (ZTM). Analisando-se a elevação da velocidade, nota-se também uma diminuição no tempo de ruptura e um aumento da ZTM. O modelo matemático apresentado considera os balanços de massa microscópicos aplicados ao leito, os fenômenos de transporte de massa com modelo de dispersão axial e transporte por convecção da fase líquida para a superfície da partícula e as isotermas de adsorção. As equações diferenciais parciais resultantes foram adimensionalizadas e resolvidas empregando-se o método de diferenças finitas, implementado por código Matlab®. A partir da simulação matemática das condições experimentais obtiveram-se os parâmetros de dispersão axial e de transferência de massa que possibilitaram uma boa reprodução do tempo de ruptura quanto do perfil da zona de transferência de massa para os experimentos em escala laboratorial e piloto. / Currently, the kind of propellant for aerosol products most widely used in the world is a blend of light hydrocarbons (butane and propane - the first in greater proportion). Part of the production of propellant is the desulfurization of liquid-phase butane by molecular sieves 13X in a fixed bed. The scientific literature concerning the adsorption of the mercaptans using zeolite are scarce and considering that the adsorption technique is strongly dependent on experimental data for its better knowlegde, the aim of this work was to study this process by adsorption equilibrium, the breakthrough curves and the development of a mathematic model, simulation and comparison with the operation of a fixed-bed pilot and laboratory-scale column. Adsorption equilibrium parameters were obtained using finite bath experiment and comparing the interaction of different sulfur compounds with molecular sieve 13X and the temperature effect. It was used the gas chromatography as an analytical method in order to obtain the levels of hydrocarbons and sulfur compounds. The Langmuir model well fit the experimental data. Significant differences were identified in the interaction of the sulfur components with zeolite 13X. The major interactions of the sulfur components are in decreasing order: ethyl-mercaptan, n-propyl-mercaptan and terc-butyl-mercaptan. The dynamic of the adsorption process was studied by obtaining the breakthrough curves in laboratory and pilot scale. It was investigated the influence of the initial concentration of n-propyl mercaptan and the fluid velocity in a fixed bed packed with zeolite 13X keeping the other parameters constant. As it was expected, as the inlet sulfur concentration increases the break point time decrease, and enhances the total amount adsorbed by the bed. Analyzing the increase in velocity on the breakthroug profile, it was noted that also decreases the break point time and causes a greater decline of the curve resulting in greater ZTM and anticipating the bed saturation time. Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Oximes are chemical compounds used to reactivate the inhibited acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzyme by organophosphates (OPs). The OPs, besides classically recognized as AChE irreversible inhibitors, are also involved in the generation of oxidative stress conditions. However, researches focusing on the possible antioxidant properties of oximes are lacking in the literature. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential antioxidant and toxic properties of 3-(phenylhydrazono)butan-2-one oxime and butane-2,3-dionethiosemicarbazone oxime in mice, and to understand the mechanism(s) by which they act. Firstly, we investigated the existence and the mechanism(s) by which 3- (phenylhydrazono)butan-2-one oxime exert its antioxidant properties (Manuscript 1). The obtained results show that in vitro hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), malonate, or ferrous ions (Fe2+)-induced lipid peroxidation was decreased by low concentrations of the oxime. Oxime treatment did not modify the basal peroxidation level nor prevented the induced lipid peroxidation determined ex vivo. The obtained results suggest that 3-(phenylhydrazono)butan-2-one oxime could be employed as a satisfactory antioxidant compound. The absence of toxicity signs after in vivo administration
of 3-(phenylhydrazono)butan-2-one oxime to mice may indicate that it could be a safe drug for further studies. The other objective of this study was to investigate the existence and the mechanism(s) by which butane-2,3-dionethiosemicarbazone oxime exert its antioxidant
properties (Manuscript 2). The obtained results indicate a significant H2O2, nitric oxide (NO) and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH●) scavenging activity at low oxime concentrations. Besides, the butane-2,3-dionethiosemicarbazone oxime significantly diminished the
deoxyribose degradation induced by Fe2+ or Fe2+ + H2O2, and also the benzoate hydroxylation induced by ferric ions (Fe3+) + H2O2 reaction. Besides, the oxime showed a significant inhibitory effect on s-phenantroline reaction with Fe2+. A significant decrease in the basal and
pro-oxidants induced lipid peroxidation in brain, liver, and kidney of mice was observed both in vitro and ex vivo. In addition, in our ex vivo experiments the butane-2,3-
dionethiosemicarbazone oxime did not determine significant changes in thiol (-SH) levels of liver, kidney and brain, as well as did not modify the delta-aminolevulinate dehydratase (δ-
ALA-D) activity in these tissues of mice. induzida por peróxido de hidrogênio (H2O2), por malonato, e por íons ferrosos (Fe2+) foi diminuída em baixas concentrações da oxima. O tratamento dos camundongos com a oxima não alterou os níveis basais de peroxidação lipídica, nem preveniu a peroxidação lipídica induzida em experimentos ex vivo. Os resultados obtidos sugerem que a oxima 3-(fenil
hidrazona) butano-2-ona pode ser empregada como um satisfatório composto antioxidante. A ausência de sinais de toxicidade após a administração in vivo da oxima 3-(fenil hidrazona) butano-2-ona em camundongos indica que esta pode ser uma droga segura para futuros estudos.
