Overwintering of Erwinia Amylovora Inside Living Host Tissue in Cache Valley, Utah

Morrill, G. Doyle 01 May 1969 (has links)
Experiment s were conducted to see if Erwinia amylovora (Burrill) Winslow et al. overwinters inside living host tissue in Utah. Bacteria, collected from apple, pear, mountain ash, chokecherry and Pyracantha, were used in the experiment. Isolates taken from buds and inner bark plated on nutrient yeast dextrose agar, we re tested by serological and bacteriophage techniques. Those showing positive tests were then inoculated into Bartlett pear seedlings to test virulence. Both virulent and avirulent isolates were isolated from each species of plant in the experiment. Pathogenic bacteria were isolated from diseased tissue near cankers, as well as from apparently healthy inner bark as far as six inches below the cankers. Pathogenic bacteria were also isolated from healthy appearing buds in the vicinity of cankers. Nearly 15 percent of isolates from hosts other than apple and pear were pathogenic to Bartlett pear seedlings. A good deal of variation existed among the bacterial isolates. Antisera developed from four isolates of Erwinia amylovora proved to be a good means of identification for the pathogen.

A Study to Determine the Feasibility of Irrigating the Lands Included in the Cache Valley Water Conservation District No. 1

Jerman, I. Donald 01 May 1924 (has links)
The purpose of this report is to investigate the feasibility of irrigating the lands of the Cache Valley Water Conservation District No. 1. The district, as it now stands, is very much in need of many improvements. The Main canals are now in use and are in a good condition to serve all the lands with the required amount of water, but the few laterals that are now constructed, are in a poor condition, with the remaining laterals yet to be finished. Before successful irrigation can be practiced, a large portion of the land will require leveling and small areas are water-logged, which will require drainage. The soils of the area are of an impervious nature, and alkaline to some extent, which will require a definite method of procedure to put them in condition for plant growth. This report consists of a study of the factors affecting the feasibility of irrigating this district and includes a suggested program of reclamation.

Economic Analysis of Cache County, Utah: An Input Output Approach

Soria, Jose Isaac Torrico 01 May 1973 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the theory of input-output analysis, its applications, and its empirical implementations to the Cache County economy. The historical developrrent, the static open input-output vii model, and the dynamic input-output analysis are presented in the theoretical discussion, and emphasis is made on the empirical applications of the model to structural analysis, forecasting, developrrental planning, and regional analysis. In the empirical implementation of the model to the Cache County economy, the 1971 total output is estimated, the Cache County total output is projected to 1981, the output and income multipliers are computed, and the total impact of the Utah State University and USU students on Cache County economy is determined.

The Usefulness of 4-H Project Manual as Seen by Members Parents and Adult Leaders in Cache County

Viasayanunt, Vichit 01 May 1972 (has links)
The primary objective of this study was to survey the usefulness of the 4-H members' project manual according to the opinions of members, parents, and adult leaders in Cache County, State of Utah. Two USU Extension Agents, 140 4-H members, 119 parents, and 30 leaders cooperated in this survey. A separate questionnaire accompanied by a cover letter by the Extension Agents and a letter of explanation by the author was sent to each person in the three categories mentioned. Questionnaires were mailed to 200 4-H male members, 190 parents and 46 adult leaders. Evaluation of the usefulness of the manuals was made in three age groups: 9-12 years old, 13-16 years old, and 17-19 years old. It was generally agreed by member, parent, and leader respondents that the age group 9-12 years old made the most use of the manuals. About 56 percent of the members indicated that a project could not be done without the manual; nearly 50 percent of the parents indicated that their children could not do a project without the manual; and slightly more than half of the leaders indicated that they could not conduct a satisfactory project without members having manuals. About four-fifths of all parents expressed their willingness to pay a minimal fee for their children to obtain manuals while three-fifths of the leaders thought that the parents would be willing to pay a minimal fee for manuals for their children.

The Attitudes of Caseworkers and Supervisors Employed by County Welfare Departments in Box Elder, Cache, and Weber Counties Toward Public Assistance

Fayer, Mardell Lorene 01 May 1968 (has links)
Attitudes of caseworkers and supervisors in public welfare agencies were studied with regard to the following subjects: (1) the public assistance program in Utah, (2) the welfare recipient, (3) family planning as a means of dealing with poverty, (4) government participation in the public assistance program, (5) methods of rehabilitation, (6) community support of welfare agency, and (7) positive and negative aspects of casework. Data were analyzed statistically with regard to age , education , political preference, and sex. An analysis of variance was made, and the F test applied to determine significance levels . Caseworkers and supervisors responded positively toward the public assistance system in Utah with mean scores high enough to indicate approval though not complete approval of this system. Caseworkers and supervisors expressed a slightly positive attitude toward welfare recipients; they were generally favorable toward family planning as a means of dealing with poverty; and they expressed a positive attitude concerning government participation in the public assistance program. Df the three means of rehabilitation proposed, caseworkers and supervisors unanimously selected the use of individual therapy as their first choice, environmental change and direct financial aid as their second and third choices, respectively, by the majority of respondents . Caseworkers and supervisors felt a need for community support but did not feel they received it. In their opinion the public is poorly informed, has many misconceptions, and is, consequently, negative toward the public assistance system. Male and female caseworkers and supervisors indicated that working with people and helping them with their problems were the most enjoyable aspects of their job; whereas, clerical work and administrative rules and procedures were the least enjoyable aspects. Women liked more aspects of their work than they disliked; whereas, men disliked more aspects than they liked.

Cost and Efficiency of Producing Canning Peas in Cache and Box Elder Counties, Utah, 1951

Davis, Lynn Herman 01 May 1953 (has links)
The production of canning peas has an important place in the economy of Utah, partioularly in the counties along the wetstern slopes of the Wasatch Mountains. The enterprise is one which adds intensity to Utah's small farms. This intensification is accomplished with little additional equipment or labor other than that owned or supplied by the farm operator and his family. The crop is seeded in early spring and harvested in early summer leaving the ground available for summer fallowing or planting to a short season crop such as grain pasture. Peas are a satisfactory nurse crop for small-seeded legumes such as alfalfa.

Performance comparison between OOD and DOD with multithreading in games

Wingqvist, David, Wickström, Filip January 2022 (has links)
Background. The frame rate of a game is important for both the end-user and the developer. Maintaining at least 60 FPS in a PC game is the current standard, and demands for efficient game applications rise. Currently, the industry standard within programming is to use Object-Oriented Design (OOD). But with the trend of larger sized games, this frame rate might not be maintainable using OOD. A design pattern that mitigates this is the Data-Oriented Design (DOD) which focuses on utilizing the CPU and memory efficiently. These design patterns differ in how they handle the data associated with them. Objectives. In this thesis, two games were created with two versions that used either OOD or DOD. The first game had multithreading included. New hardware utilizes several CPU cores, therefore, this thesis compares both singlethreaded and multithreaded versions of these design patterns.Methods. Experiments were made to measure the execution time and cache misses on the CPU. Each experiment started with a baseline that was gradually increased to stress the systems under test.Results. The results gathered from the experiments showed that the sections of the code that used DOD were significantly faster than OOD. DOD also had a better affinity with multithreading and was able to achieve at certain parts up to 13 times the speed of equivalent conditioned OOD. In the special case comparison DOD, even though it had larger objects, proved to be faster than OOD.Conclusions. DOD has shown to be significantly faster in execution time with fewer cache misses compared to OOD. Using multithreading for DOD presented to be the most efficient.
