ENTDECKUNG : Sichtbarmachung einer Symbiose - Natur + Beton: Katalog zur Ausstellung: Exhibition Catalog

SFB/Transregio 280 01 November 2023 (has links)
Was wird sichtbar? Concrete components can assume and conserve almost any shape. It is the only building material used extensively also in developing and emerging countries. However, concrete also has its downsides. Cement production is associated with enormous CO2 emissions. In addition, a large amount of natural resources is consumed, sometimes unnecessarily. Nevertheless, we will not be able to build without concrete in the future, but we have it in our hands to improve concrete construction sustainably. The Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio 280 (in short: CRC/TRR 280) aims to develop innovative concepts and strategies for intelligent construction with carbon-reinforced concrete. For this to succeed, new ways of thinking, changing proven patterns of thought and tapping into a wide variety of sources of inspiration are essential. For this reason, we invited artists to be inspired by the research topics of CRC/TRR 280. The aim of the competition was to show that carbon-reinforced concrete, as a product of science and technology, has diverse relationships with art and nature. What becomes visible? What remains hidden to the researcher and what to the outsider? How can nature and carbon-reinforced concrete be combined as art objects? In this catalog, all submissions and the making of the award-winning ideas have been compiled.:Wettbewerb - Entdeckung - Ziel 4 Ausschreibung - Ausstellung - Organisation 5 Die Jury 6 1. Development of Star Tracker Attitude and Position Determination System for Spacecraft Maneuvering and Docking Facility

Dikmen, Serkan January 2016 (has links)
Attitude and position determination systems in satellites are absolutely necessary to keep the desired trajectory. A very accurate, reliable and most used sensor for attitude determination is the star tracker, which orient itself in space by observing and comparing star constellations with known star patterns. For on earth tests of movements and docking maneuvers of spacecrafts, the new Spacecraft Maneuvering and Docking (SMD) facility at the chair of Aerospace Information Technology at the University of Würzburg has been built. Air bearing systems on the space ve- hicles help to create micro gravity environment on a smooth surface and simulate an artificial space-like surrounding. A new star tracker based optical sensor for indoor application need to be developed in order to get the attitude and position of the vehicles. The main objective of this thesis is to research on feasible star tracking algorithms for the SMD facility first and later to implement a star detection software framework with new developed voting methods to give the star tracker system its fully autonomous function of attitude determination and position tracking. Furthermore, together with image processing techniques, the software framework is embedded into a controller board. This thesis proposes also a wireless network system for the facility, where all the devices on the vehicles can uniquely communicate within the same network and a devel- opment of a ground station to monitor the star tracker process has also been introduced. Multiple test results with different scenarios on position tracking and attitude determination, discussions and suggestions on improvements complete the entire thesis work.

Romero, Melvin 12 1900 (has links)
Archaeological sites such as Olympia, Stymphalos and Olynthus have complete catalogs that studied projectile-style weaponry found in a series of archaeological excavations. These so-called directories frequently include arrowheads, lead sling bullets and sauroters (spear or javelin counter-weights) from different Greco-Roman periods. Through the 20th and 21th centuries AD, specialists such as D. Robinson (1931), A. Snodgrass (1964), H. Baitinger (2001) and Haggerman (2014) dedicated some of their expertise to produce synthesises of these formerly ignored objects. Thus, they created some of the biggest commented encyclopaedias composed solely of projectiles found on Greek soil. Until 2015, all the weaponry found on the archaeological site of Argilos had never been the subject of a synthesis study. Firstly, inspired by similar studies, the projectiles were inventoried in a catalog format. In total, two types of lead sling bullets, eleven arrowhead types and one sauroter type were identified. Lastly, this new content was subjected to comparative analyses with sites containing similar data. The resulting conclusions from these analyses gave birth to the first Argilian weapon typology. Needless to say, the analyses ran into obstacles. In particular, the comprehension that there is almost no existence of a typical Greek arrowhead type and the systematic confusion when one has to distinguish a sauroter, a javelin head, and possibly a gastrasphetes bolt (a heavy large-sized crossbow used during sieges in the 4th century BC). In part, this stems from the historical exchanges between Greece and other Mediterranean, Balkan and oriental civilizations. Furthermore, many of the archaic and classical military reforms brought about a constant evolution on strategic and tactical matters. Considering these factors, among others, and the fact that Argilos was a Greek colony within a Thraco-macedonian territory, the possibility of foreign influence becomes predominant on the typology published in this present thesis. With much hope, we believe without a doubt that this work of research will contribute not only to the history of Argilos but also to the study of military projectiles in Northern Greece.

Enhanced Ebooks : Design Practices, Modelization, Reception

Tréhondart, Nolwenn 06 December 2016 (has links)
How will an exhibition catalog or a fictional story, enhanced for digital tablets, translate the visitor’s reading habits and expectations into pages-screens? How do the e-books’ designers understand and conceive these reading practices? How will concrete readers’ expectations meet the implicit reader of the text? This thesis is based on a social semiotic methodology, deeply intertwining the empirical study of the current e-books creative and consumption practices with a methodical analysis of the semiotic and rhetorical strategies of their editorial interfaces. Empirically merging semiotic, sociological and economical research, we bring to light a new original vocabulary of “reading features” of enhanced e-books. Combining it with the designers’ practices, this vocabulary exhibits the role played by usages and social standards in semiosis. It is also enriched with a reception study on a specific artifact.

Frick, Julian 20 January 2012 (has links)
