A través del analice bibliográfica y documental la disertación aborda como algunas obras historiográficas en suyas narrativas ocultan la participación de los diferentes grupos indígenas en el conflicto. En contraposición al ocultamiento hay una bibliografía que escreve la historia del periodo dando visibilidad al indígena. Por medio de conceptos como mestizaje y etnogénesis y de bibliografía especializada, alim de la crítica documental, fue posible demuestra la participación indígena en la guerra.

Religiones omnívoras: el chamanismo chané y las relaciones interétnicas

De origen arawak, el grupo étnico que la literatura amerindia llamó chané se estableció antes de la Conquista en El Chaco occidental, sobre las laderas orientales de los Andes. Allí trabó complejas relaciones interétnicas con otros grupos étnicos de habla guaraní, indígenas chaqueños y luego, en la medida en que se consolidó el proceso de colonización, también con diversos actores criollos: hacendados, patrones de ingenios, militares, misioneros. A través de documentación etnográfica y etnohistórica, se sugiere que el funcionamiento abierto, flexible, maleable e integrador del chamanismo chané lleva la marca de estas múltiples interacciones históricas, lo cual, por otra parte, lo transforma en un lenguaje simbólico ideal para problematizar las situaciones de contacto intercultural. / Of Arawak origin, the ethnic group identified as the Chané indigenous group in the Amerindian literature, settled on the eastern slopes of the Andes before the Conquest of the Occidental region or Paraguayan Chaco took place. There, this group engaged in complex inter-ethnic relationships with other Guarani-speaking ethnic groups, Chaco natives, and thereafter, as the colonization process consolidated, with several Creole social agents: landowners, foremen of sugar plantations, the military, and missionaries. Supported by ethnographic and ethno-historical documents, the author suggests that the open, flexible, malleable and integrating organization of Chané shamanism was marked by these multiple historical interactions, thereby becoming an ideal symbolic language to reflect the problems arising from situations of intercultural contact.

A dissertação pretende contribuir num esforço mais amplo de revisão do que tem sido comumente identificado como organização hierárquica nas Américas. Trata-se de explorar os desafios colocados pela suposta hierarquia eyiguayegui/kadiwéu: escravos tratados com carinho e que não são obrigados ao trabalho, servos voluntários, populações tributárias que recebem presentes de seus senhores, capitães que não comandam, estatutos hereditários que se ganha ou se perde à força do caráter e das habilidades, mulheres guerreiras, homens cantores e uma estratificação social aparentemente em tudo análoga à da Europa feudal, mas na qual até escravos podiam ascender à posição de nobre, ou de capitão. Partindo desse panorama construído pela literatura especializada, o trabalho analisa, à luz das reflexões atuais da etnologia americanista, os dados trazidos pela documentação colonial e pelas etnografias de modo a esmiuçar (e questionar) a construção de um regime epistêmico que lê as relações eyiguayegui/kadiwéu como baseadas em uma hierarquia e em uma separação entre o doméstico e o político. O exame minucioso destes dados levou à indagação de vários termos utilizados, ao longo dos séculos, nas descrições das relações políticas eyiguayegui/kadiwéu, como escravidão, trabalho, servidão, simbiose, propriedade, estratificação social e a própria ideia de hierarquia. Esse questionamento levou, enfim, à reflexão acerca da construção dos corpos eyiguayegui e, consequentemente, daquilo que denomino distinções ou diferenciações entre as pessoas eyiguayegui. / The dissertation aims to contribute to a broader review effort of what has been commonly identified as hierarchical organisation in the Americas. It is a question of exploring the challenges posed by the supposed eyiguayegui/kadiwéu hierarchy: slaves treated with affection and who are not forced to work; voluntary servants; taxpayers who receive gifts from their masters; captains who do not command; hereditary status that are won or lost by force of character or skills; female warriors; male singers and a social stratification seemingly analogous to that of feudal Europe, but in which even slaves could rise to the rank of nobleman or captain. Starting from this panorama constructed by the specialized literature, lightened by the current reflections of Americanist ethnology, the dissertation exams the data collected by the colonial documentation and the current ethnographies in order to analyze (and to question) the construction of an epistemic regime that reads the relations eyiguayegui/kadiwéu as based on a hierarchy system and on a separation between \"domestic\" and \"political\" domains. A close examination of these data has led to the questioning of various terms used over the centuries in the descriptions of the eyiguayegui/kadiwéu political relations, such as \"slavery\", \"labor\", \"servitude\", \"symbiosis\", \"ownership\" social stratification and the idea of \"hierarchy\" itself. This questioning has led, finally, to the reflection about the construction of the eyiguayegui bodies and, consequently, of what I denominate distinctions or differentiations between eyiguayegui people.

Ant assemblages structure in a naturally fragmented forest in the argentinean humid Chaco / Structures des assemblages de fourmis dans une forêt naturellement fragmentée du Chaco humide argentin

Contexte: La fragmentation des habitats induisant une diminution de leur surface, de leur connectivité et une augmentation de la zone de contact avec d’autres milieux constitue l’une des menaces majeures pour le maintien de la biodiversité. Les effets de la fragmentation ne doivent pas être confondus avec les perturbations transitoires liées à un morcellement de l’habitat par une déforestation récente. Les îlots forestiers du Chaco humide, situés sur des monticules légèrement surélevés par rapport à la savane environnante qui est régulièrement inondée et brûlée, constituent un système naturellement fragmenté propice à l’étude des effets de la fragmentation sensu stricto. Dans ces forêts subtropicales sèches, comme dans la plupart des écosystèmes terrestres, les fourmis constituent l’un des organismes les plus abondants.<p>Objectif: Le but principal de la thèse a été de déterminer, à trois échelles spatiales, les facteurs influençant la structure des assemblages de fourmis terricoles :(1) à l’échelle du microhabitat constitué par la litière de feuilles et la couverture végétale dominée par des broméliacées terrestres ;(2) à l’échelle du fragment forestier dont la surface, la forme et l’isolement est variable ;(3) à l’échelle du paysage, constitué de forêt et de savane, soumis à des feux périodiques, et au niveau duquel nous nous sommes intéressés aux effets de bord se produisant à l’interface entre les deux milieux.<p>Méthode: Le site d’étude est la forêt naturellement fragmentée du Parc national Rio Pilcomayo localisé dans le Chaco humide argentin. Onze fragments forestiers de taille (± 2.5ha, 25ha et 250ha), de forme et de degré d’isolation divers ont été échantillonnés ainsi que la savane environnante, récemment brûlée ou non. La diversité et la densité des fourmis a été quantifiée au moyen d’un protocole standardisé<p>(« protocole A.L.L. ») qui a été préalablement calibré pour en définir la représentativité. Ce protocole consiste en un transect de 200m le long duquel sont placés, à intervalles de 10m, des pièges à fosse et des quadrats délimitant 1m² de litière de feuilles. La faune vivant dans la litière est ensuite extraite au moyen d’un dispositif appelé Winkler. Le calibrage du protocole a été réalisé en suréchantillonnant 8<p>fois le transect (160 points d’échantillonnage au lieu de 20). Cet échantillonnage quasi exhaustif de 200m² a permis de comparer l’estimation du nombre d’espèces obtenue par le transect standardisé ALL avec sa valeur réelle et d’étudier la distribution des espèces à l’échelle du mètre. Les facteurs du microhabitat les plus susceptibles d’influencer la distribution des fourmis (quantité de litière et densité de broméliacées) ont été mesurés systématiquement le long des transects. Pour l’étude de la distribution des fourmis depuis le coeur d’un grand fragment jusque dans la savane, des transects de 500m ont été utilisés et ont permis de mesurer des effets de bords éventuels. Un total de 800 Winkler et 560 pièges à fosses ont été analysés lors de cette étude.<p>Résultats: Un transect standardisé A.L.L. permet d’obtenir, à partir de 20 échantillons et de méthodes analytiques adéquate, une estimation fiable de la richesse locale au sein de 200m² mais n’est pas toujours représentatif de la fréquence relative des espèces. Au total, 150 espèces de fourmis ont été récoltées dont 130 en forêt et 79 en savane (dont 59 espèces communes aux deux milieux). Au niveau du micro-habitat, on observe pour certaines espèces des pics périodiques d’abondance (maximum tous les 10m) correspondant vraisemblablement à l’emplacement des colonies qui s’espacent pour diminuer la compétition intraspécifique. Associé aux micrconvexités topographiques l’on observe également des pics de densité de broméliacées et de quantité de litière qui favorisent une grande densité d’espèces différentes de fourmis. À l’échelle de l’habitat, les îlots forestiers petits et isolés sont les moins riches, principalement en espèces typiquement forestières. Dans les larges fragments, les espèces typiquement forestières se distribuent indépendamment de la distance les séparant du bord. Quelques espèces typiques de savane pénètrent en bordure de forêt et provoquent une plus grande variabilité de la faune récoltée au sein des quadrats de litière situés à cet endroit. Cependant, aucun pic de diversité<p>correspondant à une zone de superposition d’espèces de bord et de centre n’a été observé au sein des fragments forestiers. Les feux de savane modifient la fréquence relative des espèces les plus communes mais n’affectent pas la richesse globale du milieu et ne pénètrent pas dans la forêt.<p>Conclusions: Le protocole standardisé ALL, utilisé couramment par de nombreuses équipes de<p>chercheurs à travers le monde, mais qui n’avait encore jamais été réellement calibré avant notre étude, apparaît comme une méthode minimale mais suffisante pour déterminer la richesse locale en fourmis d’une forêt du Chaco humide. Ce calibrage a permis, en outre, de mettre en évidence un taux important de renouvellement des espèces à l’échelle du mètre carré. Nos résultats soutiennent l’idée que la disponibilité en ressources favorables, plus que la compétition interspécifique, est un mécanisme majeur<p>structurant les assemblages de fourmis des litières. À l’échelle du micro-habitat, un grand nombre d’espèces de fourmis forestières coexistent dans les zones riches en matière organique associée à la présence de broméliacées qui apparaissent comme un facteur structurant majeur de la distribution des fourmis. Au niveau de la litière, les colonies de différentes espèces ont des aires de fourragement qui se<p>superposent tandis que les colonies de même espèce ont tendance à s’espacer limitant la compétition pour les mêmes ressources. Un effet de bord, lié à des modifications locales des conditions climatiques et de la structure de la végétation, ne se marque pas au niveau de la myrmécofaune dans ce type de milieu, ce qui explique que l’on n’observe pas le traditionnel pic de diversité au niveau de la zone de transition entre deux milieux. Du point de vue de la conservation des espèces, des fragments forestiers de 15ha, bien connectés, apparaissent comme des conditions minimum pour conserver l’ensemble des espèces de fourmis de l’assemblage. / Doctorat en Sciences / info:eu-repo/semantics/nonPublished

The diploma thesis is a contribution to the research of Czech in language enclaves abroad. The aim of the work is to describe the East Moravian features in the Argentine region of Chaco at all language levels, namely the phonological, morphological, syntactical, lexical and word-formation ones. In the introduction, the author deals with the history of Czech immigrants to Argentina and their current lives. Special attention is paid to the history of compatriot life in the city of Presidency of Roque Sáenz Peňa, where the largest part of the Czech immigrants settled. The following part describes the methods of material collection and its further processing. Next chapter, presenting linguistic features of the East Moravian dialect group, is followed by a linguistic analysis of East Moravian features that occurred in the speeches recorded by the author. The results of the research are supplied separately for each language level and the influence of Spanish and signs of incipient atrophy are also described. A large number of East Moravian features have been preserved in the speakersʼ language, which still testify to their origin, although the sample of respondents consisted of second- or third-generation speakers. Space syntax analysis of Chacoan great houses.

Built form, or human spatial organization, has usually been studied in cultural anthropology and archaeology as dependent on other factors such as social organization. Studies have been limited by a lack of measures permitting comparisons over time and space, so buildings remain little understood despite their visibility in the archaeological record. One approach emerging from multidisciplinary work emphasizes topology over physical characteristics such as shape and size; it examines linkages rather than individual components. The space syntax model of Bill Hillier and the Unit for Architectural Studies at University College London recognizes that spatial patterns are both the product and the generator of social relations. Built form is treated as part of a system of spatial relations, facilitating movement, encounter, and avoidance--both among occupants and between occupants and outsiders. Methods developed through analysis of a broad range of buildings and settlements are available to examine built space and its changes over time. A space syntax model allows a re-examination of great houses in and near Chaco Canyon, New Mexico, built from the mid-A.D. 800s to the mid-1100s. The great houses examined in Chaco Canyon are: Una Vida, Pueblo Bonito, Chetro Ketl, Pueblo del Arroyo, Pueblo Alto, and Kin Kletso. The outliers are Salmon Ruin and West Aztec Ruin. Where sufficient data are available, the control and access features formalized through floorplans are graphed and quantified, allowing comparisons over construction phases and between different sites. The goal is to reevaluate past interpretations, ranging from heavily-populated villages to largely empty redistribution or ceremonial centers. More diversity rather than consistency is apparent from individual great house floor plans, but certain spatial characteristics emerge. Access patterns tend to be asymmetric and non-distributed, becoming deeper over time. Yet the occasional presence of rings, allowing alternate routes within a building, differs from earlier and later building forms. Access patterns differ between and within east and west wings, and the core units, even during comparable time periods. Seen from the perspective of the floor plan, the examples of Chacoan architecture suggest differentiation both within and among great houses.

FACTORS UNDERLYING THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN PEOPLE AND WILDLIFE IN THE ARGENTINE CHACO

I assessed major factors influencing the interactions between the mestizo community and wildlife of the Impenetrable, in the Argentine Chaco, and the ways in which these interactions are influenced by the larger economic and political context. I used a mixed qualitative and quantitative methods approach, between 2001 and 2005. I found that wildlife represented an important food source, especially for the poorer rural households. The importance of wild meat varied across the community and region, in relation to the socioeconomic characteristics of households, village size, forest condition, season, species biology, and cultural preferences. Some species used by local people, primarily white-lipped and chacoan peccaries, and jaguar, were in decline and their range had been reduced by habitat destruction and overhunting, especially in the humid sub-region. These species persisted in areas of low human density, low hunting pressure and scarce development. Harvest of peccaries for food was unsustainable. Characteristics of the resource and of the community explained the lack of incentives for community-based management of peccaries. The resource was too large in relation to the local technology and the community's institutional capacities were scarcely developed. Changes in property right regimes also influenced people-wildlife interactions and were related with species mobility. Acquisition of land title by peasants did not reduce overexploitation of highly mobile resources such as peccaries, which continued to be hunted as open access resources. The national economic collapse of 2001 had a strong influence in the region. Hunting by villagers increased as a result of growing unemployment, whereas peasants reduced their hunting and turned to forest exploitation. Acquisition of land title by non-locals and intensification of ranching and forest exploitation subsequently increased, thereby affecting the livelihoods of local peasants by reducing grazing areas and affecting wildlife by reducing habitat. This study shows how people-wildlife interactions are complex and dynamic, and indicates that conservation measures are unlikely to succeed without considering the biological, cultural, socio-economic, and political factors involved. External factors require especial consideration. In this case, a national change in economic policy produced a local change in land use that is jeopardizing the peasants culture and the region's biodiversity.

This ethnographic overview documents the contemporary values of American Indians regarding Fajada Butte. The study defines which Indian tribes have traditional or historic cultural ties to Fajada Butte and Chaco Culture National Historical Park (NHP). The study was funded by the National Park Service on September 15, 1992, and was managed by the New Mexico State Historic Preservation Office. The ethnographic overview is focussed on two broad issues: (1) Fajada Butte and its significance to American Indian people and (2) the traditional use of plants and their cultural significance to American Indian people. An additional goal of this study is to contribute information about to the process of general tribal -park consultation including Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act. This study documented that 11 tribes and pueblos have cultural relationships with Fajada Butte and Chaco Culture NHP. American Indians feel a contemporary identification with the Fajada Butte and Chaco Culture NHP. There are three main ways for expressing this identification (1) direct descent ties, (2) tribal ties, and (3) ethnic ties. No tribal or pueblo representatives expressed knowledge of living families who are direct descendants from the people of Chaco; however, many of them stated that Chaco people were their direct ancestors. All tribes and pueblo representatives who participated in the on -site visit claimed tribal or pueblo ties to the people of Chaco. The research also was concerned with the plant life of the area both on and around Fajada Butte. This study documented the American Indian traditional use placess around Fajada Butte and elsewhere in Chaco Canyon. All Indian representatives expressed the desire that the park continues to protect these plants from disturbance and emphasized the need to have a park-wide ethnobotanical study.
