Medlares egenskaper : Hur påverkas förhandlingsparterna av medlarens envishet och tålamod?Strandberg, Johanna, Hjalmarsson, Emma January 2015 (has links)
Abstract Title: The Mediator’s Qualities - How are the negotiating parties effected by the mediator's persistence and patience? Level: Final assignment for Bachelor Degree Author: Johanna Strandberg and Emma Hjalmarsson Supervisor: Jens Eklinder Frick and Jonas Molin Date: May 2015 Aim: Our aim is to create a greater understanding of the negotiating parties' experience of the mediator's persistence and patience. Method: We have chosen a deductive approach that we have based our empirical data on already existing research. Theoretical material has been gathered through literature, theses and scientific articles. With the background to our aim, we have chosen to use a qualitative approach where we have interviewed ten people who have been in contact with a real estate agent the last 24 months. The empirical data was then analysed and discussed in our analysis and conclusion. Result & Conclusions: We have found that the mediator's persistence and patience affect negotiating partners in various ways. Patient is seen as a positive quality while persistence can be perceived as negative. Our survey shows that when persistence and patience are combined, the result is successful. Our survey also showed that the main characteristics of the mediator were not at all persistence and patience, which earlier research has shown, but instead it was nice, impartial and knowledgeable. Suggestions for further research: What we think would be interesting for further research is to investigate the mediator's perspective because we only looked at the negotiating parties' perspective. We would encourage further research on qualities in general and also on the specific persistence and patience because we fount that it was a limited amount of research based on these qualities. Contribution of the thesis: The contribution of this study is that it has created a larger understanding for the characteristics that negotiation parties perceive as important for a real estate agent. This can be beneficial for real estate agents to know what properties the parties prefer and how they should act in their efforts to make the parties satisfied. Key words: Negotiation, mediation, characteristics, persistence, patience.

Characterisation in Xitsonga prose narratives namely, folktales, myths and legendsKhoza, Nosizi Cordelia 19 June 2008 (has links)
This study aims at providing upcoming and aspiring prose narrative narrators with information and skills of creating meaningful characters who would be able to convey the messages intended by the prose narrator or story teller. The discussion is centred on well-known folktale characters, techniques of creating characters used by narrators, the different kinds of characters found in folktales, the introduction of characters into the course of action, the roles of characters, the attributes of characters and their significance and characters with or without supernatural powers, nameless and faceless characters in folktales. Examples from existing folktales have been used to assist aspiring narrators in realizing the need to have skills and relevant information on how to create meaningful characters. Summaries of certain folktales have been provided for reference purposes. / Dr. J. Manyaka

Executive Characteristics and Going Concern OpinionsAbdel Zaher, Angie M 23 June 2009 (has links)
Auditors have come under increased scrutiny over the past several years about the growing number of client failures without a warning in the form of a going-concern modified (GCM) audit opinion. Statement on Auditing Standards No. 59 requires auditors to evaluate whether substantial doubt exists on an audit client’s ability to continue as a going concern (AICPA 1988). My dissertation consists of three essays. For the three essays, I empirically investigate issues related to GCM audit opinions and executive characteristics. Specifically, I examine the impact of executive tenure and gender on the issuance of GCM audit opinions. In addition, my dissertation addresses two other unique issues. Given that the Sarbanes-Oxley Act represents an important watershed event in the history and regulation of the accounting profession, I provide evidence about auditors’ propensities to issue GCM audit opinions in the post-SOX period. Further, I also expand extant research in this area by using multiple outcomes and thus go beyond the traditional use of bankruptcy alone as a tool to evaluate auditors’ GCM opinion. The results indicate that, after controlling for other financial characteristics, GCM audit opinions are significantly more likely for firms that have CFOs with short tenure and/or for firms with a female CFO or CEO. However, when examining the association between executive characteristics and two types of reporting errors, the results vary with the type of reporting error. Overall, the results provide evidence that executive characteristics are associated with auditors' reporting decisions.

Evaluating eelgrass (Zostera marina) as a juvenile habitat for rockfishes : contributions of site characteristics and larval supply to juvenile abundanceJeffery, Sharon 05 1900 (has links)
Seagrass beds are highly valuable ecosystems with a potential nursery function for rockfishes in British Columbia. Understanding how the nursery value of seagrass habitats differs for rockfish species, and what factors create this variability in habitat value, is important for effective conservation planning. In this study, the use of Zostera marina beds in Barkley Sound by juvenile rockfishes (Sebastes spp.) was investigated. Rockfish have been observed in Z. marina beds by many researchers, however, their abundance and distribution between beds has been shown to be variable. The abundance of juvenile rockfishes in five beds was assessed in 2005 and 2006 using visual surveys. Environmental and biological variables that could potentially influence this abundance were measured concurrently. These included supply of settling fish (hereafter “settlers”), biotic and abiotic habitat characteristics.
The eelgrass beds that I studied were found to differ significantly in their habitat characteristics, the abundance of settlers arriving to them, as well as the abundance of juvenile recruits in the beds. Sebastes melanops and S. caurinus were found at the sites between June and September. There was no significant relationship between the abundance of settlers arriving at a bed, and the abundance of juveniles using it. However, many of the eleven habitat characteristics investigated were significantly correlated with the abundance of either S. melanops, or S. caurinus. It is likely that these relationships arose from multiple causes which acted both pre- and post-settlement. Habitat features that were identified as correlates with high juvenile abundance value included lower epiphyte biomass, nearness to kelp habitats, lower water temperature, lower shoot density, and higher leaf width. / Science, Faculty of / Botany, Department of / Graduate
