Voluntary Associations and Their Involvement in Collaborative Forest ManagementLu, Jiaying 2010 December 1900 (has links)
Voluntary associations representing numerous types of recreation users and
environmental issues have flourished across the landscape in America. However, the
literature has not sufficiently studied these associations and their role in collaborative
natural resource management. A lack of understanding of voluntary associations has not
only limited managers’ ability to accommodate changing values of the American public,
but also resulted in tremendous costs for land management agencies.
This dissertation was aimed at gaining a better understanding of outdoor
recreation and environmental voluntary associations and their involvement in
collaborative forest management. Five objectives guided this study: (1) assessing the
organizational characteristics of voluntary associations; (2) exploring organizational
concerns about forest management issues; (3) examining organizational leaders’
experiences in collaborating with the Forest Service; (4) evaluating the perceived
effectiveness of collaboration efforts with the Forest Service, and (5) developing and
testing a social psychological model to predict members’ participation in organizational
activities.
To achieve our research goals, a case-study approach utilizing a mixed-methods
research framework was employed. The Sam Houston National Forest (SHNF) located
in New Waverly, Texas served as the geographic focus of this research. Semi-structured
interviews and a web-based survey were conducted with members in selected voluntary
associations that are currently involved in collaborative forest management at SHNF.
The findings identified stakeholder attributes and interests, validated assumptions
held regarding voluntary groups and assessed collaboration effectiveness, and helped to
uncover alternative explanations for members’ differential participation in voluntary
associations. The study offers a conceptual bridge linking several areas of study
including inter-organizational collaboration, environmental communication, outdoor
recreation studies, and volunteerism.

Abstract
The time of high steel price is coming ,the competitive rules is still not change are low cost and discriminatory is the same as depression in economy .It is important to care for customer service product added values and to reduce management costs to prevent cycling from previous Dilemma .Collaboration Commerce is the perfect solution to promote competitive capability and to reduce cost for B2B. Collaboration Commerce is not only to share information to reduce cost but also promote market effective ,further , to create a transaction-platform for customer and supplier. Collaboration Commerce is not successfully in Domestic steel industry ,although electronized enterprise very early. Therefore, the introduction of IOS shall not only start from technological aspect, but also have to evaluate as a whole from collaboration, organization and technology. Hence, this research is based on the three major scopes of IOS addressed by Kumar and Crook (1999), and explores inter-organizational collaboration¡¦s influence on Collaboration Commerce through IBM e-Business Collaboration Tool / evaluation model for supplier ; furthermore, combines TEMPLET evaluation model to analyze enterprise¡¦s organization and technology capability to predict the possibility for domestic steel enterprises to promote Collaboration Commerce in the future. This research adopts qualitative research method and combines secondary literature to discuss the pioneer enterprises promotion processes, which implement the project of Collaboration Commerce , and through the analysis to verify and correct the initial concept model and theoretical claims of the research framework. Furthermore, in terms of case analysis, the research object is the big sized steel companies and their subcontractors of the big sized steel industry. Steel industry is one of the traditional domestic industries, which required highly specialty and labor division, all of its products have to be closely cooperated between manufacturers and subcontractors, so it is the model of standard upper and lower supply chains relationship, however, its supply chains still lack of information system¡¦s support till now. Therefore, it is expected to estimate the feasibility for Steel industry to promote Collaboration Commerce to upper and lower supply chains through this research, and bring up appropriate business model and relevant suggestions according to research results.
This research shows that case enterprise¡¦s Collaboration for supplier¡¦s capability is inferior to the pioneer enterprises C.S.C., on one hand it is because of the different industrial natures, and on the other hand is not ready for workflow . In terms of organization management and IT¡¦s capability, case enterprise has common or above organization levels, so it has adequate operating flexibility, however, to see as a whole, Furthermore, the research shows the problem and successful case and the implement strategy &planning. Case enterprises to implement Collaboration Commerce in the future shall enhance the strength and improve the weakness in evaluation model, and have all the supply chains levels up and balanced ,still great chances for it to promote Collaboration Commerce successfully in the future ,can improve the production ¡B Inventory ¡Bpurchase¡Bcustomer desire get good optimized,to integrate interenterprises from inner to outer and less labor via organization and technology.specially,it is easy to be successful in grouping enterprises for Collaboration Commerce ,because it is be shared for information and data transactions .Low cost and discriminatory are the keypoints in competition enterprises need to investigate the key performance indicator any time ,included people ¡Awrkflow ¡Astrategy etc. it shall have a team to promote Collaboration Commerce and discuss it one another by the top leader's support.
This research gives the steel enterprises that want to promote Collaboration Commerce 9 specific discoveries and 2 specific discoveries in organization and IT listed below: ¤@¡BOrganization and technology
1.The work flow of companies involve considerable human intervension due to sale discounts or seasonal adequate raw material.
2.Case enterprise care for intergrating application system and database will be helpful to promote Collaboration Commerce.
¤G¡BCollaboration for supplier
1. Digital divide exist still severely in suppliers of raw material and MRO due to the performance of investment.
2. Standardize is going in progress ,but communication and coordination process slowly.
3. Government¡¦s policy have the successfully cases ,so it will be lasting to be pushed
4. Collaboration ¡¥s capability of the case enterprises ¡¥s for supplier is not adequate due to not integrated database and work flow .
5. The definition of workflow and business rules is not accordance with interorganization .
6.The Circumstances for design collaboration have the new desires in globalization .
7.The transparant of inventory information is not yet acceptable in steel industry due to privileges.
8. The investment is too high in collaboration will be considered if implement collaboration commerce by efficient.
9. Collaboration production is helpful with each other in supply chains to share iinformations and closely customer relationship.
It is also expected to provide more valuable references for steel enterprises that want to promote Collaboration Commerce by this research.

The Study of Information Sharing for Time-based Competition¡GThe Empirical Analysis on Supply Chain Information Integration in Taiwan IC IndustryLin, Huang-Chi 21 June 2000 (has links)
With rapid growth for years, Taiwan IC industry has played an important position in the world. In addition to the growth, close interaction and cooperation among firms have become the characteristics of Taiwan IC industry. Currently, time-based competition has been one of the most important factors for business success, and the competition in the 21st century relies on strategic supply chain management. Through interfirm collaboration by sharing information among supply chain partners, some activities originally performed in an individual firm are replaced by firms with core competency. In performing these activities, the competitive advantages through the supply chain information integration are gradually recognized.
The objective of this article is to realize the current situation and future plan of inter-organizational information sharing (IOIS) in Taiwan IC industry. From literature, there are lots of factors that influence the success of IOIS, this paper focuses on some areas, such as benefits from IOIS, motivations of IOIS, risks from IOIS, strategic or operational reasons, IT maturity among firms, key success factors of IOIS, and the initiator of industrial IOIS. Through questionnaire survey, we collect and analyze various viewpoints from companies of Taiwan IC industry supply chain, including IC design houses, IC fabs, assembly and testing houses, assembly material and equipment suppliers.
After the empirical analysis, we compare the findings with literatures. We conclude that the IOIS, namely networked IOIS, in Taiwan IC industry proceeds toward reciprocal interdependencies between organizations. The coordination mechanisms count on standards, rules, and mutual adjustment. Initially, the networked IOIS will tend to be much less structured and the potential for conflict may be higher. At present, because of lack of reliable and mature information connection among firms, the intensive information technology support is needed.
Finally, based on the findings, we summarize the characteristics and present the model of IOIS for Taiwan IC industry supply chain. Then, some suggestions are arisen for industry reference, including mutual benefit realization and cooperation willingness, protection of business confidential and data security, integration of enterprise systems and industrial standard messages, proposal of IC industry association to be the coordinator or initiator of IOIS, step by step implementation according to priorities of information type, and integration of information flow with manufacturing goods flow in the supply chain.

Interactive graphical timelines as collaborative scenario management toolsRiddle, Austin Christopher 10 October 2008 (has links)
Training emergency response decision makers using live, virtual and/or constructive
simulations can be highly complex since certain situations can generate stimulusresponse
cycles that depend significantly on unpredictable human judgments. In
particular, effective training scenarios require a combination of content contributed via
pre-authored scripts and content generated dynamically during the training exercise.
Large-scale exercises require multiple domain experts contributing oversight and content
to the scenario as it proceeds. Such real-time adaptation requires situational and group
awareness based on an understanding of pre-scripted materials and the adaptations of
others. This thesis describes the evolution and evaluation of a collaborative graphical
timeline system, called the Scenario Timeline System (STS), which facilitates
asynchronous and synchronous collaborative timeline management, and its application
in large-scale, computer-supported emergency response training exercises.

Organization framework ¡V a Case Study of ASP services for B2B Collaboration in Supply Chain ManagementChiang, Kuo-Tung 12 September 2007 (has links)
For most of organizations initiating IT projects to improve the business performance, they could possibly face an opportunities lost and spend a huge project cost resulting in losing competence in making profit simply due to IT project failure. The senior managers in the organization need fully understand what kind resources and capabilities are required for the project team to ensure the success.
As value proposition addressed by ASP (application services provider), Software as a Service or on-demand application, it will allow organizations to only focus on the business needs and redesign the cross-functional and cross-organizational processes. Also the IT project could quickly show its striking value in a shorter time frame by outsourcing the technical works to application service provider.
In other words, ASP business model provide customers a new choice to access the system services via the internet. These solution providers not only develop the product and upgrade roadmaps but also operate and maintain the systems on behalf of the customers. It¡¦s also a method for the customers to enjoy the latest technology and professional services in an economical way.
The value of this research work is to analyze how the senior managers of the enterprise making the choices over different alternatives under the organizational constraints comprising successful stories, personal own experiences and used operational practices in the past. A case study of B2B supply chain collaboration project is used to revisit the managers¡¦ assumptions and elaborate how these organizational constraints are exercised in the project evaluation, decision and implementation cycle based on a generic evaluation and decision framework of B2B collaboration solutions.
This report intends to provide some insight and suggestions for the senior managers to take advantage of the opportunities and advantage, like the Software as a Service or On-demand applications, enabled by the internet world. An optimized decision can be possibly achieved only if the managers are aware of the invisible organizational constraints.

The motivation of members joining collaborative software project and collaborative mechanism research-for ZK open source projectLan, Shih-fu 24 June 2008 (has links)
When Taiwan's software industry faces difficult environment, in cases of this study explore the company uses open-source marketing strategy to enter the global market and explore the motivation of members joining collaborative software project and collaborative mechanism .The conclusion will provide the internal software industry for reference¡D
The most important success factor of open-source software is great product charm.Base on this factor and use word-of-mouth effect to get large number users of downloading software freely in the short time.If a user applies the dual-license of the software, he will contribute benefit.
The motivation of creator joining this project is cause of Taiwan¡¦s software market is too small, so need to enter global market to make money, in this reason use open-source marketing strategy to enter global market and learn from world-class talent by exchanging view to achieve their goal.
About developer¡¦s motivation is cause of the culture of this company invites developers joining this project is their motivation.About the motivation of user joining this project is cause of the requirement drive user to find AJAX solution in SourceForge.Net webside and finded ZK project ranked first in the category of AJAX.
The personal developer evolve from user and the motivation is cause of they feel identification from ZK project and wish ZK product can become better and better.
The open-source project is collectting public power to finish a product and it is more complex then open-ended project,so have a good platform will achieve multiplier effect.Manager in the system level considerations is simple and flexible.Product development is divided into core and non-core.The core is developed by senior engineer with experience, non-core is developed by general engineer.
If the external personal¡¦s programs will be integrated into products, Copyright must be gived up. Otherwise, these can also be used plus-in way into products. The platform has making full use of the Internet community concept to design forums and issue tracking system. If users have any questions, ideas in the product, they can use the forume to discuss, express their views or ask questions.

A Study on the Implementation of collaborative mechanism for strategy goal In Enterprise with system dynamicsHsu, I-Ching 28 August 2009 (has links)
With the development of scientific and technological progress, electronic products are replaced rapidly and the products¡¦ life cycles are shorter than before. Therefore, products¡¦ price are reducing sharply due to market is unpredictable. Electronics Manufacturing Service (EMS) companies are facing competitive pressure with speedy production and price reduction continuously. Moreover, under the phenomenon of the bigger corporation the better operation and economic of scale leading the industry competition, cost and speed are part of key factors to be survival consequently. If medium and small size EMS companies cannot match customers¡¦ requirement, their future to the consequence will be closed or be merged. Hence, to perform an individual company¡¦s competitive ability cannot only rely on internal resource and capability, but also cross boundary between each company. This means companies could win the opportunities by cooperating with customers and supplier in the same supply chain. ¡§Collaborative Commerce¡¨ as productive management skill is for this reason an important research topic recently in business administration.
This research applies ¡§System Dynamics Theory¡¨ to collect the relative data and built up a model to achieve the case company¡¦s structure. According to the industry¡¦s characteristic, the researcher simulated and analyzed the incidence of applying collaborative commerce. Moreover, the researcher also discussed the case company¡¦s variance under different dimension, i.e. management strategy, processes of collaborative operation, and benefit anticipated. As a result, applying collaborative commerce provide a good explanation on how it is important for a company to coordinate with external resource, upgrade a company¡¦s management efficiency and adjust a company¡¦s strategy.
The conclusions of this research were as followed.
Firstly, because of the demand¡¦s uncertainty, inventory was also variance and this was called ¡§Bullwhip Effect¡¨. Moreover, triple collaboration was more efficiency to solve the problem from Bullwhip Effect and reduce the loss occurring by inventory variance.
Secondly, the results were not certainly equal between originator and participator. However, Collaborative Commerce can provide effective function for supply chain on productive management.
Thirdly, we could monitor the problems of collaboration function while applying dynamical simulation method in practical business and examine the executive outcome. Moreover, this could also be a research instrument when companies analyze Supply Chain Collaboration.
