In a world where more people than ever live in an urban context the challenge of providing good housing is more pressing than before. The ongoing densification adds an extra layer to the complexity of the housing question. Sweden is no exception to this. The closer together people live the more potential for conflicts, in apartment buildings one of the more common complaints is regarding noise transference between dwellings. Additionally, the risk of causing a disturbance infringes on the individual’s freedom to conduct their life as they want. Since context plays a large role in the overall soundscape of a building an urban site located in Umeå was used as a testbed for the project. The method of autoethnographic study was used to map the site and its sound characteristics aiding in the process of exploring domestic soundscapes. Learning from readings of both technical and experiential nature the goal is to propose a multi-family housing scheme where the inhabitants can experience a higher level of auditorial comfort and partake in noisy activities of their liking. This becomes especially relevant since more and more people does not keep the typical “eight to five” lifestyle of the past. The project strives to propose an alternative method for creating an intentional domestic soundscape better suited for contemporary life. Both inside and outside.

Detta arbete är skrivet på Kungliga tekniska högskolan i Stockholm inom kandidatprogrammet Fastighetsutveckling med fastighetsförmedling. Ägarlägenheter introducerades som upplåtelseform i Sverige 2009 med syftet att bland annatöka mångfalden av boendeformer samt ge ökad frihet för de boende. En ägarlägenhet är en tredimensionell fastighet som har till syfte att inrymma en bostadslägenhet även om en ägarlägenhet juridiskt sett går att likna vid ett småhus. Sedan 2009 har endast drygt 2000 ägarlägenheter uppförts i Sverige. Syftet med detta arbete har varit att få en förståelse för hur ägarlägenheter fungerar rentpraktiskt för att på så sätt kunna bidra med ökad förståelse för varför upplåtelseformen inte utnyttjas till större grad. Resultatet i rapporten grundar sig på dels en enkätundersökning, dels intervjuer med styrelsemedlemmar i fyra olika samfällighetsföreningar för ägarlägenheter. Resultatet visar att trivselnivån är generellt sett hög bland de boende och att det trivs väl medupplåtelseformen. Majoriteten kan skulle vid en framtida flytt välja ägarlägenhet igen. En faktor som många boende lyfter fram som positivt med ägarlägenheter är möjligheten attkunna hyra ut sitt boende. En annan faktor som många lyfter fram är friheten att inte behövaha styrelsens godkännande vid beslut som tas om boendet. Samtidigt som möjligheten att kunna hyra ut sitt boende är mycket uppskattad är det även den frågan som skapar mest bekymmer. Flera menar att hyresgästerna inte tar samma ansvar som övriga boende när det kommer till tex skötsel av gemensamma utrymmen. Sammanfattningsvis är upplåtelseformen mycket uppskattad av de som deltagit i vår enkätundersökning och i våra intervjuer, även om det finns ett par förbättringsområden som skulle öka den generella trivselnivån. / This bachelor thesis is written at Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm under the bachelor program Real Estate Development and Agency. Condominiums introduced as a tenure in Sweden 2009 with the purpose of increase diversity of tenures and enhance the freedom of the residents. A condominium is a three-dimensional property with the purpose of housing a residential apartment even if a condominium legally comparable to a detached house. Since 2009 approximately 2000 condominiums have been built. Our intent with this thesis has been to gain an understanding regarding how condominiums function purely practical so to be able to contribute with a increased omprehension concerning wherefore the tenure has not been used to a greater extent. The results of the report is based on partly surveys, partly interviews with board members in four different community associations for condominiums. The result display that the level of comfort is generally high among the residents and that it isa appreciated form of tenure. The majority would in a future move chose condominium again.One factor many of the residents highlights as positive with condominiums is the possibility to be able to rent out their accommodation. Another factor highly regarded is the freedom tonot need the approval of a board when deciding on the accommodations. Simultaneously the opportunity to rent out the condominium is very appreciated it is in the issue which creates the most concern. Several believe that tenants do not take the same responsibility as other residents when it comes to, for example, management of common space. In conclusion, the tenure is greatly appreciated of the participators in our survey and interviews, although there are a few areas of improvement which would increase the overall level of comfort among the residents.

Ambient Micro-Climate and Thermal Comfort Assessment of Davis Wade Stadium during the 2016 Football SeasonCollins, Andrew 30 April 2021 (has links)
College football stadiums host anywhere from 15,000 to 115,000 people each Saturday from late summer to early winter and leave fans exposed to ambient conditions. Amplified heat from stadium infrastructure substantially impact attendants’ thermal comfort. In order to assess personal heat exposure and mitigate exposure misclassification, temperature and relative humidity sensors (iButtons) were placed throughout Mississippi State University’s Davis Wade Stadium during the 2016 Football Season. iButton measurements established a micro-climate and compared its readings to the Soil Climate Analysis Network site 1.2 miles north of the stadium. The program RayMan Pro modeled a Physiological Equivalent Temperature (PET) micro-climate to create an individualized heat metric. The results of this study assess stadium occupants’ thermal comfort through Heat Index and PET. Heat-related health outcomes were examined regarding thermal comfort and the stadium micro-climate using data from the stadium’s EMS calls and First Aid stations during game days.

In recent years, many strides have been achieved in the area of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), which is leading to constant innovations in the types of applications that WSNs can support. Much advancement has also been achieved in the area of smart homes, enabling its occupants to manually and easily control their utility expenses.
In this thesis, both areas of research will be colluded for a simple, yet critical application: efficient and economical comfort control in smart residential spaces. The goal is to design a central, modular energy consumption control system for residential spaces, which manages energy consumption in all aspects of a typical residence. This thesis is concerned with two facets of energy consumption in residences. The first facet is concerned with controlling when the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning unit (HVAC) operates for each room separately. This is in contrast to a typical HVAC system where comfort is provided across the floor as a whole. The second facet is concerned with controlling the lighting in each room so as to not exceed a certain input value. The communication network that supports the realization of these coveted goals is based on Zigbee interconnected sensor nodes which pour data unto a smart thermostat which does all the required calculations and activates the modules required for comfort control and energy management, if needed.
A Java-based discrete event simulator is then written up to simulate a floor of a typical Canadian single-family dwelling. The simulation assumes error-less communication and proceeds to record certain room variables and the ongoing cost of operation periodically. These results from the simulator are compared to the results of the well known simulator, created by DesignBuilder, which describes typical home conditions. The conclusion from this analysis is that the Comfort Control and Energy Management Algorithms (CEMA) are feasible, and that their implementation incurs significant monetary savings.

Assessing the impact of the indoor environment on productivity : A case study in a university building in StockholmHellström, Petter January 2018 (has links)
The impact that the indoor environment has on productivity is a topic that has been investigated in numerous studies. There are a variety of different methods that have been used to evaluate productivity with. There are quantitative methods and there are qualitative ones, and both have been used in the literature as indicators or real productivity. The quantitative ones are for instance short arithmetical or linguistic performance tests or measurements of the actual quantitative output of a job. Qualitative assessments of productivity consist of different ways of allowing the subjects to rate their own productivity. Both these two approaches of evaluating productivity are claimed to be subject to different issues, and the question of which way is preferable is a matter of contention among the researchers. The quantitative approach is claimed to be unable to reflect the complex and qualitative output of many modern jobs, while the qualitative one is believed to be highly influenced by bias. This master’s degree project has investigated the associations between the two approaches and conducted a qualitative assessment of the impact of the indoor environment on the productivity in a university building in Stockholm. Numerous studies have been reviewed that include both quantitative evaluations of productivity and qualitative evaluations of the indoor environment. Qualitative evaluations are for instance evaluations of environmental satisfaction, as well as evaluations of healthiness and productivity. The relationship between the quantitative measurements and the subjective evaluation is indeed complex. However, there appears to be a consistency to some extent between the two, and the trend seems to indicate that occupants who are more productive are also more satisfied with the indoor environment or perceive themselves to be healthier or more productive. A working hypothesis has been formulated; that subjective evaluations of the indoor environment may act as indicators of productivity. This approach has been used in a university building in Stockholm, where the productivity of the students has been evaluated through a survey, together with physical measurements of the indoor environment. The survey is designed based on the current literature within the field. It has a large emphasis on productivity, with several questions concerning it directly and indirectly. The physical parameters that were measured were radiant temperature, air velocity, relative humidity, CO2- concentration and sound pressure level. Considerable correlations were observed between perceived productivity and environmental satisfaction, perceived environmental control and between different ways of evaluating productivity subjectively. The correlations between the physical measurements and the subjective evaluations were in general considerably weaker than the ones between the different subjective parameters. The correlations between the mean CO2-concentration and productivity was weak, and similar findings were obtained concerning sound pressure level. This emphasise the importance of heeding the opinions of the occupants while evaluating the performance of a building, as physical measurements alone appear to be unable to reflect the users’ perspective reliably. The correlation between the thermal parameters (evaluated by the PMV- value) and the subjective evaluations were, on the other hand, considerably stronger. This may indicate that the thermal parameters are among the most influential ones in creating a productive workplace. Furthermore, the study discusses different methods that have been used to evaluate productivity with. It discusses their weaknesses and strengths and what elements they contain that may be used for future studies of productivity.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explain and provide a more in-depth understanding of how the work around the audit of sustainability reports is carried out and what new regulations may mean for the work procedure. Method: The study has been conducted with a qualitative research approach where semistructured interviews were carried out. Furthermore, a deductive approach has been used in order to develop the previous research and to be able to analyze the relationship between theory and practice. Empiricism: The empirical evidence and the collected data consist of a presentation of the companies and the respondents of the interviews. The results of the interviews are presented in a table whose structure follows the interview guide. Conclusion: From this study, we can conclude that the work procedures for both sustainability specialists and auditors when reviewing sustainability reports look relatively similar, however certain limitations are experienced. Both parties express that the effect ofthe new regulation will not change the work procedure during the review but will require additional knowledge and expertise.

Moreover, they ruin the aesthetical appearance of glass facades. The study aims to research and propose an alternative shading system for glass facades building which can prevent from glare in the interior spaces as well as respecting the continuity of a glass facade from an exterior point of view. Research upon materials that can be integrated into glass has been carried and Ceramic ink digital printing has been found as the right technique to ensure both a functional and aesthetical value. The material today has been used mainly for decorative functions. The patterns and the colors of the shading device proposed with ceramic and digital ink printing have been tested in Deloitte Building in Copenhagen with both 3D digital models and an online survey investigating comfort preferences.
