En geopolitisk återkomst : Kultur, ekonomi och territoriell konstruktion i samband med inomstatliga konflikter

Björk, Martin January 2013 (has links)
Through geopolitical theory this thesis explores how conflicts within states can be read and understood according to an analytical model determining one or several possible causes for the conflict.  The model is created by the author and reflects geopolitical theory by giving three possible explanations to an intrastate conflict: culture, economy or territorial construction. The aim of the thesis is testing this model on two selectively chosen case studies – i.e. two intrastate conflicts – namely: the upcoming referendum in Scotland and the terror attack at Tiananmen Square in China. These conflicts are compared by applying the model on each case and then providing a qualitative analysis through it. This comparison has shown that the geopolitical model of conflicts can be used in determining the cause or several possible causes for an intrastate conflict, and by doing so determining the need for geopolitical perspective to better understand states as actors in international relations.

A Multi-Stage Graph Model Analysis for the International Toxic Waste Disposal Conflict

Hu, Kaixian 22 May 2008 (has links)
A generic conflict model is developed to analyze international toxic waste disposal issues, and then, to provide feasible strategic resolutions for this serious environmental dispute. With the rapid growth of the global economy, toxic waste traffic from the advanced to developing nations has become a serious side effect of this globalization. The illegal transboundary movement of toxic wastes not only aggravates the burden on the poorer nations, but also negatively impacts the worldwide environment. In this thesis, the ongoing toxic waste disputes are divided into two stages consisting of the dumping prevention and dispute resolution stages. The analyses based on the methodology of Graph Model for Conflict Resolution are used in both stages in order to grasp the structure and implications of the conflict from a strategic viewpoint. The in-depth modeling of the toxic waste dumping disputes, which consist of historical and generic situations, specifies the involved parties and their options. By synthesizing the economic, political and legal factors, the relative preferences for each party can be determined. The Graphical User Interface (GUI) of the Decision Support System (DSS) GMCR II simplifies the processing of calculations. The analytical research furnishes investigators or other interested parties with possible resolutions for the disputes arising from an international waste dumping event. Sensitivity analyses are also conducted to provide a comprehensive understanding of the different situations that may occur in real-world cases. The case study of the Ivory Coast waste dumping controversy is used to demonstrate how to practically implement the generic multi-stage graph model.

Konflikthantering på arbetsplatsen : En studie om gruppchefers ledarskaps- och konflikthanteringsstilar

Linder, Josefine, Lundquist, Jennifer January 2024 (has links)
Datum: 2024-05-29  Nivå: Kandidatuppsats i Företagsekonomi, 15 hp   Institution: Akademin för Ekonomi, Samhälle och Teknik, Mälardalens Universitet  Författare: Jennifer Lundquist (00/08/24)     Josefine Linder (96/07/31)                         Titel: Konflikthantering på arbetsplatsen: En studie om gruppchefers ledarskaps- och konflikthanteringsstilar Handledare: Magnus Hoppe Nyckelord: Konflikt, Konflikthantering, Ledarskapsstil, Gruppchefer, Bass-modellen, Thomas-Kilmanns konflikthanteringsmodell Forskningsfrågor:   Hur påverkar gruppchefers ledarskapsstil deras tillvägagångssätt vid konflikthantering på arbetsplatsen?    Hur upplever gruppchefer konflikthantering i praktiken? / Date: 2024-05-29 Level: Bachelor thesis in Business Administration, 15 cr   Institution: School of Business, Society and Engineering, Mälardalen University  Authors: Jennifer Lundquist (00/08/24)     Josefine Linder (96/07/31)                                                                                                                         Title: Conflict Management in the Workplace: A study of Leadership and Conflict Management Styles among group managers  Supervisor: Magnus Hoppe Keywords: Conflict, Conflict management, Leadership style, Group managers, The Bass model, Thomas-Kilmann conflict model Research questions:   How does the leadership style of group managers influence their approach to conflict resolution in the workplace?   How do group managers experience conflict management in practice?   Purpose: The purpose of the study is to enhance the understanding of how group managers handle conflict in the workplace and how it can be applicable to established models of leadership and conflict management.  Method: The study is conducted as a qualitative case study, where the empirical data was collected through semi-structured interviews with five group managers. The study involves an interplay between deductive and inductive approaches.  Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that the transformational and transactional leadership styles are predominant. As for conflict management, the collaborative style is most prominent. There is a connection between transformational leadership and the collaborative conflict management style, other than this, no clear correlations can be established. The study emphasizes the complexity of conflict management, influenced by various factors, where communication plays a central role. Overall, the study contributes to an enhanced understanding and fills a knowledge gap in the field.
