Modelling the Xbox 360 Kinect for visual servo control applications

Chung, Yin-Han January 2016 (has links)
A research report submitted to the faculty of Engineering and the built environment, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Engineering. Johannesburg, August 2016 / There has been much interest in using the Microsoft Xbox 360 Kinect cameras for visual servo control applications. It is a relatively cheap device with expected shortcomings. This work contributes to the practical considerations of using the Kinect for visual servo control applications. A comprehensive characterisation of the Kinect is synthesised from existing literature and results from a nonlinear calibration procedure. The Kinect reduces computational overhead on image processing stages, such as pose estimation or depth estimation. It is limited by its 0.8m to 3.5m practical depth range and quadratic depth resolution of 1.8mm to 35mm, respectively. Since the Kinect uses an infra-red (IR) projector, a class one laser, it should not be used outdoors, due to IR saturation, and objects belonging to classes of non- IR-friendly surfaces should be avoided, due to IR refraction, absorption, or specular reflection. Problems of task stability due to invalid depth measurements in Kinect depth maps and practical depth range limitations can be reduced by using depth map preprocessing and activating classical visual servoing techniques when Kinect-based approaches are near task failure. / MT2017

Denis, Eloïse 08 April 2008 (has links) (PDF)

The Sovereign's Cabin : A reconstruction and interpretation of the wooden sculptures and wall panelling in the great cabin and stern gallery of the warship Vasa of 1628.

Wallace, Shaun January 2009 (has links)

The great cabin of the warship Vasa was adorned as a palace like room rather than aships cabin, containing over seventy wooden sculptures. The herm pilasters andconsole heads possibly held symbolic meaning, as did the exterior sculptures of theship. Why was so much money spent on the cabin? Who was its intended audience? How was the great cabin decorated and why? A study of the archaeological remainswithin their wider maritime and decorative historical context, can give the reasons for the designing and building of this highly decorative and expensive cabin.

OS Google Chrome - teorie a praxe / OS Google Chrome - theory and practice

Plecháč, David January 2017 (has links)
The thesis is focused on the characteristics of the key features of the operating system Google Chrome OS and on the evaluation of deployment of this operating system in practise. The theoretical part describes the purpose and philosophy of the commercial operating system Google Chrome OS and its relation with Chrome web browser. The connection with open-source projects Chromium and Chromium OS is explained. Details of application development and deployment options, in the form of virtualization and domain administration, are analysed. The practical part applies theoretical knowledge from the development of applications for Chrome OS to create thin client application for remote control of hardware sensor over the internet. This sensor is designed and built on the platform Arduino. The sensor measures the temperature and humidity of the ambient air and remote controls high-voltage switching relays. Communication over TCP/IP uses modern MQTT protocol, for which the server is configured with MQTT Broker Mosquitto. The next section demonstrates the procedure for building a customized build of Chromium OS from the publicly provided Google source codes. Based on the evaluation of the acquired theoretical and practical knowledge, I assess the possibility of deploying the Chrome OS in private and commercial areas.
