Leadership influence on EO : An interview-based study on leadership influence on Entrepreneurial Orientation in KIBS-firms from the eyes of the consultants

Backman, Jafet, Drevell, Linus January 2022 (has links)
Over the last decades, there has been a shift from a product intensive market to a service-based one which is based on knowledge being a high commodity in contrast to previous decades where tangible capital resources and products have been the primary focus. Over a similar time frame, entrepreneurial orientation (EO) has become one of the most important theories/concepts within entrepreneurial research, which is a firm’s capacity to portray innovative, proactive and risktaking behaviour to outcompete their competitors. For a firm to develop an EO, the firm’s leadership is of the essence. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to research how leadership influences EO in the knowledge-intensive business service sector (KIBS-sector) from the perspective of consultants. Most studies on EO and leadership are conducted using quantitative methods, therefore the study was conducted qualitatively and is based on ten interviews with consultants from various professions within KIBS. The findings indicate that there are several leadership factors influencing whether a KIBS-firm can develop an EO which is categorisedi nto three distinct categories: Organisational culture, Leader skills and styles, and Managerial systems. Organisations can use these findings to highlight areas of improvement for leaders and how management in KIBS-firms can organise their firms to implement innovative, proactive, and risk-taking behaviours in their consultants

Consultancy in management education

Matthias, Olga, Campbell, J. January 2018 (has links)
No / The chapter interrogates the teaching and application of management consultancy as part of an MBA and examines its relevance in management education. Mature and experienced students, many with impressive CVs recording multiple career successes, demand that the core experience of their MBA programmes provide opportunities apply theoretical knowledge in real-life situations. The further opportunity to work with blue-chip clients on projects of strategic importance to the client offers further opportunities to test management thinking and consultancy practise in a robust and challenging manner. Students often have experience of working with consultants previously, but most have little experience of managing and delivering projects for clients within a consultancy framework. The pedagogical challenge is to teach students the true value proposition in consultancy beyond the transactional relationship inherent in answering a question set by the client. The basic process approach moves students from considering consultancy as a phenomenon that ‘happens’ to a client with a solution magically appearing upon project conclusion, to a position where students recognise consultants as a true ‘change agent’, unfreezing clients from previous positions and realising new capabilities (Lewin, 1951). There is an examination of ensuring the relevance of the management consultancy approach to students as part of their MBA journey as well as relevance to the client companies in engaging with the University. There is discussion on how teaching the right approach to management consultancy project management and research-orientated methodology retains the focus on the performance of the client organisation (Applebaum and Steed, 2005). There is consideration of how true impact on client companies is achieved by ensuring legacy forms part of expectation management (Kirk, 2000) with client companies keen to reengage with future MBA student teams. The chapter concludes with a reflection on future development of consultancy within management education, including syllabus co-design with consultancy clients.

Halvardsson, Victor, Janson, Sandra January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to describe how networking can provide competitive advantage to facilitate growth when offering consultancy services toward the public sector. The majority of companies are looking to expand their business due to different reasons. With todays intense competiton on the market it is becoming increasingly important to outperform competitors in order to maintain the current customerbase aswell as it is to gain new businesses. Companies that work toward the public sector have special laws, directives and regulations that have to be taken into account when conducting business. Involvement with networks is based on different reasons, it can be due to gaining new customers, contacts and knowledge to name a few.   The authors have performed a qualitative case study with a focus on two companies. The empirical findings is based on information collected through interviews with these companies and through a quanitative self-completion questionnaire with a sample group of 16 repondents. By analysing the empirical information the authors have concluded that networking activities are important in order to prosper growth. However, there is a lack of networking strategies among the two companies of focus which constraint the firms to get the most out of the networks.

De la cause des femmes au marché de l'égalité : l'émergence de l'espace de l'accompagnement à l'égalité professionnelle en France (1965-2012) / From the defence of women’s rights to the market for equality : the emergence of a specialist field for the promotion of equal opportunities in employment, France (1965-2012)

Blanchard, Soline 10 September 2013 (has links)
Is it possible to analyse simultaneously the (re)production and transformation of gender inequalities? This thesis aims to address this question, by focussing on women and men who are invested in accompanying organisations towards the promotion of equal opportunities in employment. By taking a reflexive stance on the author’s personal experience and by constructing a rich corpus of written and oral data, including almost one hundred interviews, this thesis uncovers three social processes (institutionalisation, marketization and professionalization), which have characterised the “equal opportunity in employment field” in France, since the mid-1960s. The research underscores the weak institutionalisation of equal opportunity measures in the French context over the period studied. It also reveals the “uncertain” nature of the job and business opportunities related to accompanying organisations in the promotion of equal opportunities in employment. The thesis illustrates the difficulties associated with organising a field that is invested by individuals originating from very diverse horizons, with varied know-how and qualifications. Two factors seem to play a major role in determining the denial of the “professional” nature of the activities studied here: the highly gendered characteristics of the field in question and the more general discredit of anything associated with feminism in France. This thesis sheds light on the scientific and social issues that are raised by activities related to the promotion of equal opportunities in employment. From a trans-disciplinary perspective, it echoes contemporary discussions within several research communities, including: Gender Studies, Social Policy, Economic Sociology and Sociology of the Professions.

Systemic reflexivity : building theory for organisational consultancy

Oliver, Christine January 2012 (has links)
This dissertation argues for the value of the concept of systemic reflexivity in sense making, orientation and action in systemic practice, and in organisational practice in particular. The concept emerges as a theme through the development of two specific strands of published work from 1992 to 2013, that of Coordinated Management of Meaning Theory (CMM) and Appreciative Inquiry (AI). Both lines of inquiry highlight the moral dimension of practitioners’ conceptualisation and practice. Systemic reflexivity alerts us to the opportunities and constraints system participants make for the system in focus, facilitating exploration of a system’s coherence, through a detailed framework for systemic thinking which links patterns of communication to their narratives of influence and narrative consequences. It provides the conditions for enabling individual and collective responsibility for the ways that communication shapes our social worlds. The concept is illustrated in practice through a range of case studies within the published works.

Podnikání v oblasti internetového poradenství / Carry on business in the field of internet consultancy

Štrupl, Václav January 2010 (has links)
This dissertation is focused on internet consultancy, which is a branch younger than ten years. By internet consultancy we mean the area covering online promotion, consultations in the field of technical quality and usability of web pages, measuring and optimization of their commercial performance. Thus we do not mean the consultancy in other fields (e.g. social, health, economic) just using the internet as its form of communication, even though the same name is used for this activity, as well. The goal of this dissertation is to define the branch of consultancy in the field of creation and promotion of web pages and map it from technical, entrepreneurial and economical point of view. The case-study in the second part is based on the individual interviews with the key employees and on my more than five years long praxis with running the company H1.cz s.r.o., which was one of the first Czech companies running a business in this area. Its foundation, development and finally also sale provided me as a founder with both theoretical knowledge of the technical aspect of consultancy and realization of services and practical experience with running a company itself. In connection with my studies of information technologies at the university with economical focus I consider this experience very favorable for this dissertation. I have divided the text into following parts: - Definition of the internet consultancy as a branch. The goal of this part is to theoretically map the area of internet consultancy from the technical point of view and to describe the particular specializations and tasks that it consists of. - Specialties of consulting as a type of an entrepreneurial activity. This chapter briefly describes the consulting work as a type of business and its specificity comparing to other areas. - Case-study of the company H1.cz. The third part maps the particular activities in a company (management, marketing, sales, finance etc.) focused on internet consultancy. It also addresses the question of foundation and sale of the company as an inseparable part of entrepreneurship. By reading this dissertation one should obtain a detailed overview in the area of creation and promotion of web pages as well as in running a business in this young and dynamic branch. There is no complex source in the market related to this topic and so I hope this dissertation could become a starting point for everyone considering foundation of his own company in the internet field.
