Study for stressors and coping methods among chronic hemodialysis patientsChou, Hsueh-Chih 28 August 2003 (has links)
Abstract:
Hemodialysis is the commonest treatment for end-stage renal disease. We evaluated the factors associated with the stressors and coping methods for end-stage renal disease and hemodialysis by questionnaires. Two thousand, seven hundred and seventy-two patients with long-term hemodialysis from 13 cities in Taiwan were enrolled. The average stress score was 0.9 (ranged from 0-3 score on questionnaires).
The most important stressors included fluid restriction, sleep disorder, operation for arteriovenous shunt, fatigue and fluid restriction, while the least important factors were sexual dysfunction and role conflict. Fatalism was the most popular copying method that these patients used. Others were as follows from the most common coping strategies: fatalism, wishful thinking, seeking support, problem solution, and positive reappraisal. Besides, age, dialysis duration, education, marital status, occupation, religion, transportation service and comorbidities were correlated significantly with stressors and coping methods. The patient characteristics were good predictors for stressors and coping methods. The results would be useful for dialysis staff to manage patients¡¦ stressors as well as to improve the staff-patient relationship.

Responding to the Workplace NarcissistWesner, Bradley S. 10 July 2007 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / The presence of narcissism in the workplace is well established. Some have even gone so far as to extol the virtues of the narcissistic personality and the effect that it has on the leadership roles in organizations. Still, research suggests that there are more narcissists than there are leadership positions that might be filled. It is well established that the presence of those with strong narcissistic tendencies at the lower levels of organizations are disruptive to the productivity and the morale of the organization as a whole. This paper found that five coping method categories existed: non-responding, quitting one’s job, befriending the narcissist, confronting the narcissist, and going to management. Contrary to existing literature, only quitting one’s job or going to management were perceived by respondents as effective methods.

Vårdpersonalens hanteringsstrategier vid arbetsrelaterad stress / Coping stategies among nursing staff with occupational stressBerntsson, Sandra, Brandén Persson, Caroline January 2015 (has links)
Background - Stress affects the body both physically and mentally, to avoid negative effects of stress, it’s important with recovery. Occupational stress is common especially in health care personal and can occur when there are high work demands on the individual. To avoid occupational stress affect on the individual the use of various forms of coping strategies, it can vary from problemsolving- to emotional coping strategies. Purpose - To describe healthcare personnel management of occupationalstress. Method - A Literaturereview with eleven qualitative studies were included, these were analyzed by Forsberg and Wengströms, inspired by the method of content analysis. Results - The authors' results demonstrated in two categories, "problemsolving coping strategies" and "emotional coping strategies" and eight subcategories, "to seek, give and receive support", "to prioritize and plan work", "to perform activities", "reflection and breaks","use of humor", "anger and avoidance", "substance use" and "spirituality and faith". Conclusion – The nursing profession is a demanding area where stress is inevitable, therefore it is important to manage the stress that arises in the workplace in order to maintain focus. More research on effective strategies for stress management is required.

Previous issue date: 2010-10-19 / This paper aims to analyze the experience of young children s families in the face of
an intensive Care Unit of Cardiology s internment. The presence of parents in the
hospital environment contributes to minimize the suffering caused by the child's
hospitalization. Understanding the factors that help parents when facing the context
of disease treatment and hospitalization of a child can help them to understand the
dynamic factors related to hospital, helping them to better cope with the situation of
illness, treatment and hospitalization. Qualitative approach was the methodological
option, considering the nature of study s subject. Were accomplished six semistructured
interviews with mothers and a father besides 100 hours of participant
observation during the study, 20 hours of it dedicated to formal observation. We used
the thematic analysis, a method of content analysis to understand the data. The
results were classified into four units of meaning: feelings and emotions against the
child's illness; heart disease under the maternal staring; the mother and child in the
dynamics of the Intensive Care Unit; resources to face the situation; It follows that the
heart s symbolism enhances the mothers emotional fragility regarding their children's
illness; religiosity; spirituality and a consistent social support network were
contributing factors for demonstration and maintenance of adaptive behavior. The
presence of the mother and her stay in all stages of children s treatment in the
studied Unit does not always happen.
