Analysis of RED ONE Digital Cinema Camera and RED Workflow

RED Digital Cinema is a rather new company that has developed a camera that has shaken the world of the film industry, the RED One camera. RED One is a digital cinema camera with the characteristics of a 35mm film camera. With a custom made 12 megapixel CMOS sensor it offers images with a filmic look that cannot be achieved with many other digital cinema cameras. With a new camera comes a new set of media files to work with, which brings new software applications supporting them. RED Digital Cinema has developed several applications of their own, but there are also a few other software supporting RED. However, as of today the way of working with the RED media files together with these software applications are yet in progress. During the short amount of time that RED One has existed, many questions has risen about what workflow is the best to use. This thesis presents a theoretical background of the RED camera and some software applications supporting RED media files. The main objective is to analyze RED material as well as existing workflows and find the optimal option.

Deo-Victorian Society in the Neo-Victorian Novel: A Study of Sensory Perceptions in Michel Faber´s The Crimson Petal and the White

This paper explores the contemporary reader´s fascination with the Victorian period focusing on Michel Faber´s neo-Victorian novel The Crimson Petal and the White (2002). By comparing and contrasting various literary elements that link the Victorian novel to contemporary neo-Victorian fiction it simultaneously shows the similarities and differences between the nineteenth-century Victorian sensorium and that of the present day. It puts particular emphasis on the sensory perceptions of vision and smell, since those two senses are the most prominent ones in Victorian and neo-Victorian fiction and they are also regarded as extremes on the sensory scale. The nineteenth-century urban hygiene campaign transformed, in particular, the perception of olfaction. This study concludes that our contemporary society bears many similarities to the Victorian period as a society of great change. The renewed interest in the Victorian signifies the twenty-first century reader´s desire for an idealized world set in another time, which yet appears familiar and recognizable. Neo-Victorian fiction thus functions as a means of knowing both your heritage and finding your own place in the present day. The sensory perception of foremost smell is part of our cultural heritage and thus the neo-Victorian novel mirrors the deo-Victorian concept.

Rödluvan i ny framställning : En analys av en modern sagoadaption

This essay seeks to explore the relation between Crimson Bound and the fairy tale from which it derives from. Today, it is common to use fairy tales as a base for new literature, movies and tv-series and therefore it is interesting to study these new additions to our media. By applying Vladimir Propps extensive study of fairy tales to Rosamund Hodges Crimson Bound and the Brothers Grimms Little Red Cap I hope to come to an understanding of the differences and similarities that these two holds. Through this analysis I conclude that Hodges utilizes the functions that Propp states are specific to the fairy tale genre. I also conclude that, although Hodges closely follow the initial structure of Little Red Cap, she deviates from the fairy tale towards the ending. Besides the interesting similarities and the effect of the differences, the roles of the protagonist and the antagonist stands out. Therefore, a portion of this essay delves deeper into how the adaption to the fantasy genre affect these roles as well as how the relationship between then protagonist and antagonist alters due to this.

Three experiments had been carried out. For the first one, taking into account the Normative Brazilian/2002 and the requirements for exportations, it was determined that Advanced Selection 8 develops large cluster, inserted in class 2, with dark reddish berry, caliber 20, and ellipsoid format; 'BRS Morena' presents cluster of medium size, in class 2, with berry colored of black nuance, caliber 20, and format between ellipsoid and globoid; 'BRS Linda' with large cluster, in class 2, light-green color, and 'Crimson Seedless' with pink colored and small cluster inserted in class 1, offer berries in caliber 18 with ellipsoid formats; 'BRS Clara' develops medium size cluster in class 2, berry with caliber, green yellowish green color and a format elongated ellipsoid. All of these grapes meet the standards for national market that demands a minimum of 12 millimeters of diameter. On the other hand, 'BRS Clara' does not meet the minimum diameter demanded for exportations. The red grapes ' BRS Morena' e 'Crimson Seedless' develop the firmest berries. The hydrogenionic potential, titratable acidity and soluble solids content meet the official standard values. The largest clusters are significantly less acid and present higher soluble solid/titratable acidity ratio, inferring to be the sweetest when mature. For the second experiment, it was determined and correlated the content of acid Lascorbic, total phenolic composites, trans-resveratrol, and the total antioxidative capacity of the studied grapes. All grape samples presented low acid L-ascorbic contents. The white 'BRS Clara' presents marked content of total phenolic compounds, followed by the white 'BRS Linda', in third position are the red ones: Advanced Selection 8, 'BRS Morena', and 'Crimson Seedless'. 5 Grapes presented distinct contents of trans-resveratrol in this following order of superiority: 'BRS Morena', 'Crimson', Advanced Selection 8, 'BRS Linda', and 'BRS Clara'. Trans-resveratrol seems to provide varietal identity. Red grapes presented higher contents of trans-resveratrol. 'BRS Clara', ' Crimson Seedless', and 'BRS Linda', similarly, presented the highest antioxidative capacity and the color of the grape did not influence on that. The contents of total extractable phenolic compounds influenced positively on the antioxidative capacity. Grapes presenting larger contents of total extractable phenolic compounds presented lower content of transresveratrol. For the third experiment it was used the Quantitative Descriptive Sensorial Analysis, by means of selected and trained judges. On the global quality, 'BRS Morena' was superior than others grapes evaluated, while Advanced Selection 8 was in second position, and 'BRS Linda' and 'Crimson Seedless' occupied the third position, while 'BRS Clara' showed the most inferior sensorial quality. The general characteristics flavor, with large superiority, followed, in this order, by the strongest tonality, the red color, the most spherical format, the highest firmness, succulence, crispness, and sweetness contributed positively with the global quality. The bitter taste and the sensorial acidity, in this sequence of intensity, were the attributes of larger negative influence. The results for physical and physical-chemical evaluations, together, reflect significantly the sensorial perceptions. Therefore, once inserted in the official standards of identity and quality, beside the varietal characteristic flavor, producers must prefer to produce grapes of stronger tone, larger sizes, and more spherical or globular formats. / O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar os atributos físicos, físico-químicos, bioativos e sensoriais das primeiras variedades de uvas (Vitis vinifera L.) sem sementes brasileiras, 'BRS Clara', 'BRS Linda' e 'BRS Morena', mais a Seleção Avançada 8, comparadas com a norte-americana 'Crimson Seedless'. Foram conduzidos três experimentos. Assim, com o primeiro considerando as Normativas brasileiras/2002 e as exigências para exportações, determinou-se que a Seleção Avançada 8 possui cacho grande na classe 2 com baga avermelhada escura, calibre 20 e formato elipsóide; A 'BRS Morena' apresenta cacho médio na classe 2, com baga colorida de nuança preta, calibre 20 e de formato elipsóide a quase globoso; a 'BRS Linda' com cacho grande, classe 2, de cor verde clara e a 'Crimson' com cacho róseo, pequeno na classe 1 oferecem bagas de calibre 18 e com formatos elipsóides; a 'BRS Clara' possui cacho médio e de classe 2, com baga de calibre 14, tom verde amarelado e de formato elipsóide alongado. Todas atendem o mercado nacional quanto aos diâmetros mínimos de 12 milímetros. A 'BRS Clara' não atende os diâmetros exigidos para exportações. As uvas tintas 'BRS Morena' e 'Crimson Seedless' dispõem das bagas mais firmes. O potencial hidrogeniônico, a acidez titulável e os teores de açúcares solúveis atendem aos padrões oficiais. Os cachos maiores são os menos ácidos e apresentam a melhor relação de sólidos solúveis/acidez titulável, inferindo serem os mais doces, quando maduros. O segundo experimento determinou e correlacionou os teores de ácido L-ascórbico, compostos fenólicos totais extraíveis, trans-resveratrol e a capacidade antioxidante total das uvas estudadas. Todas as amostras apresentaram baixos conteúdos de ácido L-ascórbico. A branca 'BRS Clara' apresenta destacado teor de compostos fenólicos totais extraíveis, seguida pela branca 'BRS Linda', em terceiro lugar encontram-se as tintas Seleção 8, 'BRS Morena' e 3 'Crimson'. As uvas apresentaram conteúdos distintos do trans-resveratrol e nessa ordem de superioridade: 'BRS Morena', 'Crimson', Seleção Avançada 8, 'BRS Linda' e 'BRS Clara'. O trans-resveratrol parece conferir identidade varietal. As tintas apresentaram maiores conteúdos de trans-resveratrol. A 'BRS Clara', 'Crimson' e 'BRS Linda', igualmente, apresentaram a maior capacidade antioxidante. A cor não interferiu na capacidade antioxidante. Os compostos fenólicos totais influenciaram positivamente na capacidade antioxidante. Uvas com maiores quantidades de compostos fenólicos totais extraíveis, apresentam menores teores de transresveratrol. No terceiro experimento utilizou-se a Análise Sensorial Descritiva Quantitativa, mediante julgadores selecionados e treinados. Quanto à qualidade global, a 'BRS Morena' apresentou-se superior, a Seleção Avançada 8 destacou-se em segundo lugar, enquanto, a 'BRS Linda' e 'Crimson Seedless' ocuparam o terceiro lugar e a BRS Clara' foi de qualidade inferior, sensorialmente. O sabor geral característico, com ampla superioridade, seguido na ordem, pela tonalidade mais forte, a cor tinta, o formato mais esférico, a maior firmeza, suculência, crocância e doçura contribuíram positivamente com a qualidade global. O amargor e a acidez sensorial, nesta seqüência de intensidade, foram os atributos de maior influência negativa. Os resultados das avaliações físicas e físico-químicas, em conjunto, refletem com significância as percepções sensoriais. Uma vez, dentro dos padrões de identidade e qualidade oficiais, além do sabor varietal característico, os produtores devem preferir produzir uvas de tons mais fortes, tamanhos maiores e de formatos mais esféricos ou globosos.

The most commonly used methods for dye removing are biological treatment, coagulation / flocculation / membranes and adsorption processes. The present study aims to evaluate the adsorption of reactive dye textile Crimson HEXL, used in industrial plants (mainly laundries) using two commercial activated carbons: the origin of bovine bones (CAO) and bituminous minerals (CAM). To compare the potential application of these two types of carbons, experiments were performed characterization and adsorption in batch system and in duplicate, consisting of the following steps: i) obtaining from the point of zero charge (pHpzc) for each carbon, ii) evaluate the influence the pH of the dye solution, iii) determine the optimal particle size of the adsorbent, iv) to investigate the influence of the stirring rate in the adsorption process, data acquisition and modeling using kinetic models available in the literature, of obtaining data of equilibrium and modeling at different temperatures using literature modeling, v) desorption of the dye in the best conditions for the particular adsorption system carbon-dye (pH and type of eluent). The experiments showed the best conditions of particle size (approximately 20-30 mesh), shaking (100 rpm) and pH of 2. The kinetic data showed a contact time of 48 hours for the system to reach equilibrium. The kinetic model Pseudo-First-Order, Pseudo-Second-Order and intra-particle diffusion showed good fits of the experimental data with high coefficients of determination and high degree of significance for each parameter in the models studied (p-level < 0,05) for the experimental equilibrium data for systems Crimson HEXL CAO and Crimson HEXL CAM, except for the model of intra-particle diffusion at 100 mg/L of system Crimson HEXL CAO. The simulation using the Langmuir model using as adsorbent CAO represented satisfactorily equilibrium data experimental temperatures of 20, 30, 40 and 50 ° C, unlike the Freundlich model which had adjustment only for the temperature of 20 ° C. To the system Crimson HEXL - CAM did not obtain a proper fit for simulating the experimental data using the equilibrium model isotherm Langmuir and Freundlich. The thermodynamic parameters &#916;Hº, &#916;Gº and &#916;Sº were evaluated and demonstrated that the adsorption of the reactive dye Crimson HEXL in CAO and CAM is an endothermic and spontaneous process. The recovery of activated carbons with reactive dyes had poor results for the recovery of the adsorbent for reuse in adsorption processes. / Os corantes estão presentes em muitas unidades industriais, gerando efluentes que são carcinogênicos e tóxicos afetando significativamente o meio ambiente quando descartados sem tratamento prévio. Os métodos mais empregados para a remoção de corantes são: tratamento biológico, coagulação / floculação / membranas e processos de adsorção. O presente trabalho pretende avaliar a adsorção do corante reativo têxtil Crimson HEXL, utilizado em unidades industriais (lavanderias principalmente) utilizando-se dois carvões comerciais ativados: de origem de ossos bovinos (CAO) e mineral betuminosa (CAM). Para comparar o potencial de aplicação destes dois tipos de carvão, experimentos foram realizados de caracterização e adsorção em sistema batelada e em duplicata, consistindo nas seguintes etapas: i) obtenção do ponto de carga zero (pHpcz) para cada carvão; ii) avaliar influência do pH da solução do corante; iii) determinar o melhor tamanho de partícula do material adsorvente; iv) investigar a influência da velocidade de agitação no processo de adsorção: obtenção de dados cinéticos e modelagem utilizando modelos disponíveis na literatura; obtenção de dados de equilíbrio em diferentes temperaturas e modelagem usando modelos da literatura; v) dessorção do corante nas melhores condições de adsorção determinadas para o sistema carvão-corante (pH e tipo de eluente). Os experimentos realizados indicaram as melhores condições de granulometria (aproximadamente 20-30 mesh), agitação (100 rpm) e pH da solução de 2. Os dados cinéticos apresentaram um tempo de contato de 48 horas para o sistema alcançar o equilíbrio. O modelo cinético de Pseudo-Primeira-Ordem, Pseudo-Segunda-Ordem e Difusão Intra-partícula apresentaram bons ajustes dos dados experimentais com elevados valores dos coeficientes de determinação e elevado grau de significância para cada parâmetro nos modelos estudados (p-level<0,05) para os dados de equilíbrio experimentais para os sistemas Crimson HEXL CAO e Crimson HEXL CAM, exceto para o modelo de Difusão Intra-partícula à 100 mg/L do sistema Crimson HEXL CAO. A simulação realizada utilizando o modelo de Langmuir empregando como adsorvente o CAO representou satisfatoriamente os dados de equilíbrio experimentais para as temperaturas de 20, 30, 40 e 50 ºC, ao contrário do modelo de Freundlich que apresentou ajuste apenas para a temperatura de 20 ºC. Para o sistema Crimson HEXL CAM não se obteve um ajuste adequado para a simulação dos dados experimentais empregando o modelo de isoterma de equilíbrio de Langmuir e Freundlich Os parâmetros termodinâmicos &#916;H0, &#916;G0 e &#916;S0 foram avaliados e mostraram que a adsorção do corante reativo Crimson HEXL em CAO e CAM é um processo endotérmico e espontâneo. A recuperação de carvões ativados com corantes reativos obtiveram resultados pouco satisfatórios para recuperação do adsorvente para reutilização em processos de adsorção.
