Concerto para violãoe orquestra de Francisco Mignone: edição crítica a partir da versão de Sérgio Abreu / Concerto for guitar and orchestra of Francisco Mignone: critical edition from version Sérgio Abreu.

Orosco, Mauricio Tadeu dos Santos 12 November 2013 (has links)
This thesis addresses the Concerto para Violão e Orquestra (Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra) by Francisco Mignone, who is still little known to the public and guitarists in general despite his increasing presence in concert programs during the last decade. Our research involved two fronts: the review of the work as a whole and the study of Sergio Abreu\'s suggestions regarding the soloist part, which were conceived as support to the first Brazilian presentations. The review of the orchestral part, based on the confrontation between primary sources, followed the central ideas of James Grier\'s concept about the interpreter-editor, who intervenes in the work in order to provide a score that is in line with the historical sources, and that is also easy to read and perform. We contextualize Sérgio Abreu\'s suggestions for the guitar amid representative revisions of other repertoires by referential interpreters with initial analyzes based on the general principles of Arnold Schönberg\'s and William Caplin\'s structuralism. Subsequently, we also confront Abreu\'s suggestions with the primary sources of the soloist guitar and with the orchestral context. Although our main goal was the critical review of this Concerto, our dual approach provided a reflection on its core characteristics, and the outcome of the analysis is in our final considerations. The results can be summarized in the general idea that, from the twentieth century, the critical review progressively becomes a habit of the interpreter guitarist and that it is specifically present in the elaboration of our critical score of the Concerto, which also incorporate suggestions given by us.

An investigation into the acceptability of dementia care mapping on a neuro-rehabilitation ward : Q-methodology with staff and clinical populations

Stevens, Jenna January 2011 (has links)
Background. Paper I: Published guidelines and policies continually promote the importance of increasing service-user involvement in health care services. Q-methodology has become a popular method for revealing the subjective perspectives of patients who use health services, yet there is currently no review considering the potential issues of using Q-methodology with clinical populations. Paper II: Measuring the quality of care for people using neurorehabilitation services is a complex area requiring reliable methods. Dementia Care Mapping (DCM) is used widely in dementia care settings to help improve person-centred care and with appropriate evaluation may be usefully applied to neurorehabilitation settings. Aims. Paper I [literature review] examined studies which used Q-methodology with clinical populations, with a particular emphasis on the potential adaptations required to ensure its reliable use. Paper II [research study] explored the acceptability views of staff and patients for the pilot use of DCM in a neurorehabilitation setting. Paper III attempted to critically appraise these papers, as well as the research process overall. Methods. Paper I reviewed 29 studies, published over a 20-year period, using a narrative synthesis. Paper II conducted DCM on an acute neurorehabilitation ward, and evaluated the acceptability of DCM using Q-methodology with 23 staff and 10 patients on the ward. Results. Paper I identified a number of considerations for the effective application of Q-methodology with clinical populations. Paper II, reporting on the factor analysis, indicated a 'consensus' viewpoint, where all participants indicated positive acceptability for the use of DCM in a neurorehabilitation setting, with additional factors indicating some potential changes to the tool for increasing acceptability in the future. Paper II also indicated the potential for Q-methodology to be useful with a neurorehabilitation in-patient population. Conclusion. Paper I indicated the potential worth of Q-methodology for use with clinical populations. It also indicated guidelines which researchers might consider when using this method with clinical populations in the future. Paper II revealed promising results for the acceptability of DCM in a neurorehabilitation setting, though further research is required to explore this further. It also confirmed the value of Q-methodology with patients within a neurorehabilitation setting, similarly to those in Paper I. Paper III explored the relevance of Papers I and II in adding to the literature independently, but also the unequivocal link regarding the use of Q-methodology with clinical populations.

Recovering from Psychosis: Empirical Evidence and Lived Experience

Williams, Stephen 10 1900 (has links)
No / The use of first-hand service user accounts of mental illness is still limited in the professional literature available. This is, however, beginning to change, with a new ‘recovery’ focus in mental health services meaning that the voices of service users are finally being heard. Recovering from Psychosis: Empirical Evidence and Lived Experience synthesises a narrative approach alongside an evidence-based review of current treatment by including Stephen Williams’ own personal experience as it relates to psychosis, recovery and treatment. A mental health professional himself, the author’s account of his own recovery from severe mental health difficulties, without sustained intervention, challenges the orthodoxy of representation of service users in mental health. Recovering from Psychosis critically explores and reviews the current state of the art of research and knowledge about the nature and treatment of psychosis. Working simultaneously from empirical, lived experience and philosophical perspectives,Stephen Williams: Evaluates political and power related issues in professional understanding, knowledge-creation and treatment of people with psychosis; Introduces the current ‘recovery movement’, unpacking its origins and implications for the future development of ‘recovery oriented services’; Reviews, summarizes and critiques the current state of ‘recovery’ research, looking at the advantages and disadvantages of such an approach, examining how this is influencing the transformation of UK mental health services; Analyses the difficulties in organisational implementation of recovery approaches, summarises the most empirically robust approaches to practice, personal and service delivery measurement; Reviews current ‘models’ of psychosis and how various professional scientific groups explain the experience and nature of psychosis; Uses lived-experience accounts taken from the scientific literature, portraying the nature of such experiences and analysing them in the face of contemporary psychological models. Recovering from Psychosis is an essential comprehensive guide for mental health professionals, psychologists, social workers and carers, who are working with people with severe and enduring mental health difficulties diagnosed as psychosis. It addresses the practical implications of working with such difficult conditions and serves as a hopeful story of recovery for service users.

Analyse des facteurs pouvant contribuer à l’augmentation de la prévalence du diabète de type 2 au Nouveau-Brunswick / Factors that could explain the increase in the prevalence of type 2 diabetes in New Brunswick

Thibault, Véronique January 2016 (has links)
Abstract : Background: A major increase in the prevalence of diabetes in New Brunswick was observed over the last decade. Because diabetes is associated with many health complications and increases healthcare system costs, it is important to identify factors that could explain the increase in prevalence of diabetes in New Brunswick to help government prioritize interventions to reduce the burden of diabetes. The objective of this study is to describe factors potentially involved in the increase in prevalence of diabetes. Methods: A critical review of the literature was used to identify a list of factors that could explain an increase in prevalence of diabetes. Administrative data available in New Brunswick from 2001 to 2014 and data from Statistics Canada were used to conduct a repeated cross sectional descriptive study. Results: A 120% increase in the prevalence of type 2 diabetes was observed in New Brunswick between 2001 and 2014. The increase in prevalence of diabetes could be explained by an increase in the prevalence of many individual risk factors (such as obesity, hypertension and rediabetes), environmental risk factors (like urbanization), the evolution of the disease (expressed by an increase in incidence rate and a decrease in mortality rate), a detection effect (observed by an increase in number of people tested and a decrease in HbA1c values and age at detection) and environmental changes (with a period and cohort effect). Conclusion: The major increase in prevalence of diabetes in New Brunswick could be explained by many individual risk factors, environmental risk factor, the evolution of the disease, the detection effect and an environmental change. The comprehensive overview of factors presented will help guide actions about diabetes in New Brunswick and will inspire others jurisdictions to identify factors that could explain the increase in their country or province.

Kärlek som statsangelägenhet : En kvantitativ undersökning av tidningsartiklar publicerade under det kungliga bröllopet 2010 / Love as a state affair : A Quantitative study of published texts during the Swedish crown wedding 2010

Bressler, Sofia, Hermansson, Maria January 2010 (has links)
2010 was the year of the wedding between Sweden’s crown princess Victoria and Daniel Westling. Although the wedding was partly financed with tax payer’s money, the newspapers did not investigate it further. The main theme of the published articles was lighter and with an entertainment value rather than finding out what the tax money really went. We read two of Sweden’s biggest newspapers, one morning paper (Dagens Nyheter) and one evening paper (Aftonbladet) and counted the articles that contained information about the wedding 1st June – 25th June. 93 percent of the 137 articles in Aftonbladet did not have any critical content at all. Dagens Nyheter published 48 articles during the same period and the percentage of non-critical content was 86 percent. We also divided the articles into different categories for example wedding dress, weather and safety. This to find out what the newspapers choose to write about.

The adopted methodological procedure was the application of a Didactic Sequence (DS) of the referred genre, elaborated under Dolz, Noverraz e Scheneuwly’s approach (2004), who propose an initial production that serves as reference to guide the teacher´s interventions, according to the students’ necessities, detected in the writing of initial texts. In such DS the learners’ activities are planned and grouped in modules that end up with the re-doing of the texts in the final version. This choice is justified by its rendering of the visualization of the writing process since the very moment of the teacher’s intervention until its end, besides allowing him/her to observe how the teaching of the constitutive elements of a gender and of its production conditions give to the apprentice a better linguistic discursive performance in the written skill. Studies in the fields of textual linguistics and textual genres have shown relevant contributions for the understanding of the language as a psycho-social phenomenon attached to human practices and activities which result from the interaction among subjects aiming at the same specific purposes, within social and historically situated contexts. The present research circumscribes itself under this perspective, and its outputs attest the possibility of teaching argumentative genres in Elementary School, according to the analysis of the students’ textual productions, which demonstrate their advancement in the act of argumentation and how it favors their textual progression.

Mixed-Methods Research: A Tutorial for Speech-Language Therapists and Audiologists in South Africa

Wium, Anna-Marie, Louw, Brenda 12 July 2018 (has links)
Background: Mixed-methods research (MMR) offers much to healthcare professions on clinical and research levels. Speech-language therapists and audiologists work in both educational and health settings where they deal with real-world problems. Through the nature of their work, they are confronted with multifaceted questions arising from their efforts to provide evidence-based services to individuals of all ages with communication disorders. MMR methods research is eminently suited to addressing such questions. Objective: The aim of this tutorial is to increase awareness of the value of MMR, especially for readers less familiar with this research approach. Method: A literature review was conducted to provide an overview of the key issues in MMR. The tutorial discusses the various issues to be considered in the critical appraisal of MMR, followed by an explanation of the process of conducting MMR. A critical review describes the strengths and challenges in MMR. Results: MMR is less commonly used or published in the fields of speech-language therapy and audiology. Conclusion: Researchers working in teams can draw on the strengths of different disciples and their research approaches. Such collaborative enterprises will contribute to capacity building. Researchers, SLTs and audiologists are encouraged to make use of MMR to address the complex research issues in the multicultural, multifaceted South African context. MMR makes an important contribution to the understanding of individuals with communication disorders, and in turn, researchers in the two disciplinary fields of speech-language therapy and audiology can contribute to the development of this research approach. MMR is well suited to the complexity of South African contexts and its populations, as it can provide multiple perspectives of a topic.
