Vývoj konceptu aktivního stárnutí v České republice v letech 2000-2016 / Development of the active aging concept in the Czech Republic in 2000-2016Sluková, Kristýna January 2018 (has links)
Active aging is a frequently discussed issue in recent years due to the demographic aging of the population. The aim of this thesis is to map the development of the concept of active aging from its origin to the present (2000-2016). To meet the objectives there were done expert interviews and analysis of strategic documents and national action plans issued in a defined period. This thesis focuses on the development of the concept of active aging, specifically in the areas of education, employment, healthy aging and personal development. It turns out that the most important area of active aging is education that significantly affects other areas such as interest activities, longer working lives, engaging in social and cultural activities. Implementation of the concept of active aging takes place at several levels, at social level, at an individual level, or interconnection of these levels (multidimensional concept). The work is therefore focused on examining whether the concept of active aging in the Czech Republic is perceived rather as a tool for improving the quality of life of the senior, or whether it can be used as a tool to mitigate the effects of demographic aging. The work also shows that the development of active aging also affects how seniors are perceived in society (among other things)....

Effects of Venture Team Demographic Characteristics on Team Interpersonal Process Effectiveness in Computer Related Venture TeamsOchani, Manju 08 1900 (has links)
In order to remain competitive, firms must be able to merge diverse, differentiated people into teams. In comparison to solo ventures, venture teams not only offer a broader base of physical and financial resources and varying points of view, but also positively influence the profitability, growth, and survivability potential of new ventures. Despite the growing importance and potential benefits offered by venture teams, relatively little is known about assembling and maintaining effective venture teams in the field of entrepreneurship. More specifically, information is needed to understand what composition and combination of demographic characteristics of team members would contribute to the effectiveness and success of a venture team. In this study the relationship between venture team demographic characteristics and team effectiveness (which is defined in terms of the interpersonal process of venture team members in their group activities) is investigated. The demographic characteristics examined include average age, age heterogeneity, average level of education, educational background heterogeneity, gender heterogeneity, and functional background heterogeneity. A field study, involving face-to-face and telephone interviews with the venture teams is used to gather data from40 computer related venture teams in a large midwest U.S. city. The venture teams are identified through the local Chambers of Commerce, peer referrals, and library research. Information is gathered on demographics and team interpersonal process effectiveness using a pre-validated instrument. Data are analyzed using regression analysis. The results indicate that average age negatively and significantly relates with team interpersonal process effectiveness. Furthermore, average level of education positively and significantly relates with team interpersonal process effectiveness. The other demographic variables, age heterogeneity, educational background heterogeneity, gender heterogeneity, and functional background heterogeneity do not produce significant relationships.

Exploring the validity of two organisational energy measures in the South African contextCuff, Rowenna Erin 28 September 2012 (has links)
Background and Aim:
Although inroads are currently being made into research in the area of organisational energy, an exhaustive search of the literature has indicated that research into measurement instruments which are applicable in the South African context is scant, with two empirical studies having been conducted in South Africa on organisational energy (Derman, Barkhuizen, & Stanz, 2011; Lamberti, 2010). As there is minimal research into organisational energy measures which are most appropriate for use in the South African context, this study explores the reliability and validity of the Productive Energy Measure (PEM) (Bruch, Cole & Vogel, 2005) in the South African context. This study also adds to the existing knowledge on the Energy Scapes Profile (ESP) (Tosey & Llewellyn, 2002) in the South Africa.
Method:
A cross-sectional survey research design is followed with data being collected from employees (N=303) from South African institutions. The ESP (Tosey & Llewellyn, 2002), and the PEM (Cole, Bruch & Vogel, 2011) are administered. Exploratory Factor Analysis, Confirmatory Factor Analysis, construct equivalence item bias analyses, Analysis of Variance, Multivariate Analysis of Variance and Regression Analysis are applied.
Results:
Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) of the ESP reveals that both a seven-factor and a one-factor model were inconclusive. Subsequent Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) reveals a one-factor structure. The theoretical sub-scales of the ESP show a high level of internal consistency.
The results of the CFA for the PEM clearly reveal a three-factor model. The three theoretical sub-scales show an excellent level of reliability. Statistically significant differences are found in the productive organisational energy levels of employees based on job level, home language, years in current job and the PEM dimensions.
Results of the regression analysis indicate that a statistically significant relationship exists between organisational energy and productive organisational energy. Practical Relevance:
As far as could be determined, this is the first study to make use of the PEM in South Africa. The study attempts to identify which measure of organisational energy is most appropriate for use in the South African context, and makes a contribution to the body of knowledge surrounding organisational energy measurement instruments in the South African context. Furthermore, the study of measures of organisational energy which can be applied in the South African context provides assistance to those interested in measuring organisational energy in the workplace. / Dissertation (MCom)--University of Pretoria, 2011. / Human Resource Management / Unrestricted

Rural–urban migration as a factor associated with physical and sexual intimate partner violence Peru 2015–2017: a secondary analysis of a national studyTerrazas, Jorge, Blitchtein, Dora 01 December 2022 (has links)
Background: Internal migration, a consequence of the demographic transition towards urbanization driven by globalization, represents a particular public health challenge. Change in residence from one sociocultural geographic context to another, with not only economic implications, but also changes in women’s long-established relationships of family interdependence, influences gender relations and can influence Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) against women. Different migratory trajectories may be related to IPV. The aim of this study was to identify the association between internal migration and physical and/or sexual violence against women in the last 12 months. Methods: A secondary analytical cross-sectional analysis of the publicly accessible 2015–2017 Demographic and Family Health Survey (DHS) was performed. The outcome variable was reported physical and/or sexual violence inflicted by the partner (IPV) during the last 12 months. Exposure variable was internal migration, operationalized from three questions: current place of residence, principal place of residence before 12 years of age and number of years of residence in the current place. Migrants were classified as those who reported having lived for 5 years or more in the current location and were categorized as rural-rural migrants, urban-urban migrants, urban–rural migrants and rural–urban migrants, recent migrants and nonmigrants those who resided in the same place all their lives. To identify the association between internal migration and physical violence, a generalized linear model (GLM) of the family and the log Poisson link log option was used, and the results are presented as prevalence ratios (PRs). A crude model and a model adjusted for confounding variables were performed. Results: Rural–urban migrant women had a 15.0% higher probability of experiencing IPV than nonmigrant women (PRa 1.15, 95% CI 1.03–1.29, p = 0.015), while the probability of experiencing IPV in the last 12 months for urban–rural, rural-rural,urban-urban migrantand recent migrant women was not significantly different from that of nonmigrant women. Conclusion: Rural–urban migration among women of childbearing age is a factor associated with a higher probability of IPV in the last 12 months. The identification of women with this rural–urban migration pattern could help prioritize those that may experience a greater probability of physical and/or sexual violence in Peru, it must be studied if this pattern is the same in other countries. / Revisión por pares

The relationship between environmental health status, the attributes of female caregivers and the health status of care recipients in low-income areas in Cape Town, South AfricaYakubu, Yakubu A. January 2016 (has links)
Thesis (DPhil (Environmental Health))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2016. / Informal caregivers play an important role in the well-being of dependent members in a
household. The burdens of these caregivers are multiple and pervasive and may contribute
to mental health epidemiology as a result of worry, grief, anxiety and stress.
The literature review revealed that studies in caregiving and its various facets began from a
pragmatically applied interest rather than from theoretical and intellectual curiosity. The
majority of the research on caregiver burden involves meta-analysis of qualitative studies
with little quantitative research. Also, many of these studies are concentrated on caregivers
of chronically ill patients, such as those suffering from dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and heart
disease, without much attention to care burden resulting from caring for those who are not
necessarily ill. Similar studies by other researchers did not consider the impact of the physical
health of the care recipients or the environmental factors that are critical in the study of female
caregiver burden in low-income settings. In addition, existing studies did not adequately
evaluate the many potential factors that may vary and influence the lives of the caregivers,
especially in a single, comprehensive model. This study attempted to provide a more complete
picture of these relationships in low-income and culturally diverse settings.
The study population consisted of black/African and coloured populations living in subsidised
or low-cost housing settlements. In each of the two different cultural communities, 100
black/African and 100 coloured female caregivers were selected through a systematic random
sampling procedure. In addition, data were also collected from caregivers in Tamale, Ghana to
assess differences between the socio-demographic profiles of the caregivers in Cape Town,
South Africa and Tamale, Ghana. The theoretical paradigm used in this study is the Stress
Process Model by Pearlin et al., (1990).
The study instrument assessed caregiver burden with both objective and subjective measures
through the use of a fully structured questionnaire. The information that was collected according
to the constructs of the Stress Process Model included personal and role strains and
incorporated the physical health of the care recipients and environmental factors such as
kitchen and toilet hygiene. Inclusion criteria for the respondents in both Cape Town and Tamale
were the principal female caregivers who were present, willing, and able to give informed
consent. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS Version 22) was used for the
analyses. The Chi-square test was used to assess the relationships between environmental
health, the socio-demographics of the female caregivers and the health status of the care
recipients. The hierarchical regression analysis in the form of a General Linear Model was used
to model caregiving burden.
iv
The results showed that the majority of the female caregivers were in the age group 40 – 49
years and in both Cape Town and Tamale, a large proportion was in the low-income group.
Also, the majority of the informal caregivers in the two samples were in care tasks as a
full-time job, providing more than 40 hours of care per week. Regarding the length of time in
caregiving, a large proportion of the caregivers in both Cape Town and Tamale had been in
the care role for more than three years preceding the survey, and almost all the caregivers in
the Cape Town sample (98.4%) did not use any form of caregiving programme to ameliorate
the negative effects of caregiving. Further, the results showed statistically significant
relationships between the socio-demographic characteristics of female caregivers (age,
education, population group and income status) and the diarrhoea status of the care recipients.
Also, a significant relationship was shown between environmental health variables of the home
(kitchen hygiene and toilet hygiene) and the physical health of the care recipients. The
major predictors of female caregiver burden in the samples were the physical health of the care
recipients and access to social grants.
On the basis of the analyses, it was recommended that the government should recognise the
importance of the physical health of the care recipients and increase the amounts of social
grants to the caregivers since this could improve the circumstances of both the caregivers
and the care recipients. In addition, this could aid in improving the standard of living of
caregivers in these households. Future research in similar settings should disaggregate the
data to compare the burden of caring for caregivers of physically strong care recipients with
physically ill care recipients.

Demographic, Behavioral, and Cultural Factors on Chlamydia Trachomatis InfectionPalmer, Philis Grace 01 January 2019 (has links)
Chlamydia trachomatis is a sexually transmitted disease, and its incidence has been increasing in recent years in the U.S. population. Certain demographic factors have been identified as posing an increased risk to acquire this disease. The purpose of this mixed-methods research was to examine how population demographics (quantitative section) and cultural and behavioral factors (qualitative section) affect risk for contracting chlamydia trachomatis in the Miami-Dade, Florida area. The theory of reasoned behavior was the theoretical framework of the study. The quantitative component used secondary data from Jackson Health System (2012- 2018) pertaining to 333 Miami-Dade young adult individuals with incidents of chlamydia trachomatis by gender, ethnicity, and race. For the qualitative component, 13 health care providers were interviewed using purposeful sampling, and the qualitative data were transcribed verbatim and analyzed thematically. Quantitatively, proportion of sample data was compared to national data using z statistics. Chlamydia cases were more often in the Black versus White group and Hispanics versus non-Hispanics group in Miami-Dade area compared to the similar national proportions (z=4.9, p<0.0001, and z=6.4, p<0.0001, respectively). Qualitatively, health care providers reported a significant lack of education and awareness on the infection, especially in young populations in the Miami-Dade area. Social change can be achieved by using findings of this research to develop more effective public health initiatives regarding the spread of chlamydia trachomatis in the Black and Hispanic population as well as with health care providers.

Domestic Violence and Demographic Variables as Predictors of Resiliency Among Young AdultsAbraham, Sylvanus O 01 January 2018 (has links)
An increased understanding of resilience may determine how human psychological development can result in positive outcomes despite adversarial situations. However, current studies have not provided a relevant predictive model that can adequately predict resilience, particularly among young adults exposed to domestic violence. Based on Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory, the purpose of this quantitative noncomparative study was to examine whether domestic violence, age, gender, ethnicity, individual emotional and physical abilities, types of domestic violence exposure, and frequency of domestic violence exposure could adequately predict resilience among young adults. Quantitative data were collected from 118 young adults in the Midsouth region of the United States. The data were collected via a questionnaire and analyzed using a stepwise multiple linear regression. The results of the analysis were significant, indicating that the frequency of domestic violence exposure was a significant negative predictor of resiliency. These results suggested a need for further examination of environmental protective factors, according to Bronfenbrenner's ecological model, that may affect resilience development. By discovering factors that predict resilience, whether positive or negative, stakeholders can target interventions and develop policies that can eradicate the harmful social and psychological influences of domestic violence on children.
