Tarpkultūrinių kompetencijų ugdymas sprendžiant edukologines kitataučių destigmatizacijos problemas visuomenės transformacijos kontekste / The Development of Intercultural Competence by Solving Educational Problems of Foreign-Born Destigmatization in the Context of Society Transformation

Beliajeva, Ala 29 September 2008 (has links)
The arm of this work is to determine and evaluate the relations and connections of the need of foresting of intercultural competence with foreign– born destigmatization problems in public transformation contecst. Investigation instruments – three author`s created questionares and two field investigation proceedings. This paper analyses the modern peculiarities and educational assumptions of ethnical tolerance in Lithuania. The development of intercultural competence is the foreign-born destigmatization program, the mechanism of transformation of the human personality and the attitude of society to the foreign-born. Investigations approve the author`s formulated scientific research hypotheses, that intercultural competence level of the citizens of Lithuania is medium, that racist and ethnic destigmatization is related with the foresting of intercultural competence, that the most effective foresting method, solving foreign – born destigmatization, is experiential learning.

Anything but Crazy: How American Musical Theatre Can Change Societal Stigmas Against Mental Illnesses

Walton, Benjamin 01 January 2018 (has links)
There is a societal stigma that villainizes or degrades anyone diagnosed or associated with any mental illness. While many different forms of media have attempted to destroy this stigma through psycho-centric narratives, I wanted to argue that musical theatre has the greatest potential as a live entertainment source to deconstruct and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness. For my research, I theorized that musical theatre can most effectively change societal stigma about mental illness by communicating a clear understanding of the disease through music, and achieving popularity in the public eye longer than other live forms of theatre. I chose to focus on four of those musicals: Lady in the Dark by Moss Hart, Kurt Weill, and Ira Gershwin which talks about depression and anxiety in the 1940s; Spring Awakening, adapted from Frank Wedekind's original play by Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik, which discusses depression and suicidal tendencies, specifically in students; Next to Normal by Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt which revolves around bipolar disorder; and Dear Evan Hansen by Steven Levenson, Benj Pasek, and Justin Paul which talks about the prevalence of anxiety disorders in society. With this thesis I wanted to further the progression of destigmatizating mental illnesses through the medium of musical theatre. Through an analysis of these well-known musicals that focus on mental illnesses and the psychological research that follows, I proposed a short song cycle that continues this evolution of mental illness musicals. Through this process, I theorized that musical theatre will decrease the stigma surrounding mental illnesses and will promote treatment and care when dealing with mental illnesses.

Mental health services in the Marine Corps an exploratory study of stigma and potential benefits of desigmatization training within the OSCAR (Operational Stress Control and Readiness) program

Cooper, Susanna R. 12 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release; distribution in unlimited. / This study examines stigma associated with mental health services counseling in the Marine Corps for the purpose of assessing areas of concern where lack of awareness or stigma exists. Marines with longstanding unresolved personal problems or more immediate emotional distress may be less effective, they may also not know where to go for help. Secondly, stigma may be associated with the fear of negative performance evaluations and decreased future promotions, which may reflect an underutilization of the available mental health services. Results of this study reflect: 1)that stigma does exist; 2)that Marines have a poor knowledge of the availability and variety of mental health services; 3)that there is little in the way of destigmatization training within the Marine Corps. By studying civilian models which may have a destigmatization component, this study presents possible methods for incorporating destigmatization training into the OSCAR program. Theoretically, the results of this study, garnered through interviews with practitioners, literature, and an OSCAR program review, can be used to further the efficacy of Marine Corps mental health services by way of education and destigmatization training. / Captain, United States Marine Corps

Vovsová, Nikola January 2021 (has links)
Group of people with mental illness is a very diverse group. Due to its diagnosis they have to face prejudices and stigmatization, which influences all levels of their lives - even the working one. This diploma thesis People with mental disorders and their access to the labour market examines the position of persons with mental disorders on the labor market. It is based on the premise that employment is an important element for every person, as it provides an income and, above all, represents belonging to the majority society. In this work I introduce the setting of Czech legislation and public policy documents, I realize my own quantitative (using content analysis of media outputs) and qualitative (using semi-structured expert interviews) research and based on that I classify people with mental illness into the relevant target population according to the Theory of social construction of target populations (according to Schneider and Ingram). I choose this procedure of combined (= mixed) research to collect a sufficient amount of data. This theory says how benefits or burdens are allocated in society. I define the problems and, in conclusion, I present possible recommendations how the situation could change with the help of public policy instruments and how the the stigma that these people have to...

Exploring Perceived Stigmatization of People with Bipolar Disorder to deepen the knowledge For Glocal Social Work Practice by means of an Interview and Literature Study.

Yengo, Beryl Delight, Simba, Michael Swarne Noble January 2020 (has links)
The aim of the research was to explore perceived stigmatization of People with Bipolar Disorder to deepen the knowledge for Glocal Social Work Practice by means of an Interview and Literature Study. The data of the research was gathered from the perspective of people with bipolar diagnosis and a peer within the field, about whether stigma is experienced by people with bipolar disorder and how their resilience factors i.e. strength factors can be supported and enhanced. A qualitative study was conducted with the purpose of expanding the evidence-based knowledge base by exploring how people with bipolar disorder with resilience experienced stigmatization, and the factors that supported their resilience versus inhibited their resilience in their adversity. The research results were analyzed through literature reviews and interviews to gain an in-depth knowledge of the phenomena. The findings indicated that stigma was experienced by the people with bipolar disorder, and was experienced as affecting recovery negatively, creating reluctance to seek help and adding more stress factors. It was mentioned that a healthy social network for support (spouses, relatives, friends andprofessionals) i.e. inclusion along with an active lifestyle, defined goals in life andpurpose, spirituality, nature, faith and hope for a better tomorrow assisted in building and cementing resilience. The findings also indicated that education and anti-stigmainterventions helped in establishing better attitudes revolving around mental illness, especially interventions with personal encounters with people with mental illness.
