This dissertation analyzes social and legal influences on Texas death-sentenced prisoners who hastened their own execution. Using variables derived from research on other types of decisions to hasten death, I compare these prisoners with other similarly-situated condemned prisoners who did not seek to hasten execution, and develop a theoretical model for their decisions. In addition, I examine both how these prisoners explain their decisions, and how court proceedings can shape these explanations. The dissertation concludes with a discussion of the sociolegal construction of different rights to die. / text

Die Morphologie des Substantivs und des Adjektivs des ersten Teiles eines der bedeutendsten ostlitauischen Schriftdenkmäler - der originalen Predigtsammlung von K. Sirvydas ,,Punkten des Redens“ - ist schon beschrieben (Šilaikienė, 2004). Diese Magisterarbeit ist für die Morphologie des Substantivs und des Adjektivs des zweiten Teiles von K. Sirvydas ,,Punkten des Redens“ gewidmet. In dieser Arbeit sind die Substantivs- und Adjektivsstämme des zweiten Teiles, ihre Formen, die in der Literatursprache und den Mundarten gebräuchlich oder nicht gebräuchlich sind, überblickt. Da werden auch Stammparadigmen gegeben, die Sprachfakten des I und II Teiles verglichen, die Ähnlichkeiten und die Unterschiede vorgelegt. Gesammeltes und beschriebenes Material erlaubt folgende Ausschlüsse zu ziehen: 1. Der II Teil von K. Sirvydas ,,Punkten des Redens", im Jahre 1644 nach dem Tod des Autors (von J. Jaknavičius vorbereitet) herausgegeben, unterscheidet sich vom ersten Teil der Arbeit. 2. Die entstandenen Unterschiede des I und II Teiles (die Fälle des Wandels e auf a am Anfang des Wortes, unkonsequentes uo Schreiben statt o, t, d Wandel in Afrikaten vor i, ie u.a.) hat J. Jaknavičius gemacht, aber ie statt uo, e und o, ou statt au Schreiben in den zirkumflexen Endungen, verschiedene Formen mit nicht östlichen an gehören dem anonymischen Redakteur. 3. Die-stacking is a new technology that allows multiple integrated circuits to be stacked on top of each other while connected with a high-bandwidth and high-speed interconnect. In particular, die-stacking can be useful in boosting the effective bandwidth and speed of DRAM systems. Die-stacked DRAM caches have recently emerged as one of the top applications of die-stacking. They provide higher capacity than their SRAM counterparts and are faster than offchip DRAMs. In addition, DRAM caches can provide almost eight times the bandwidth of off-chip DRAMs. They, however, come with their own challenges. Since they are only twice as fast as main memory, they considerably increase latency for misses and incur significant energy overhead for remote lookups in snoop-based multi-socket systems. In this thesis, we present a Dual-Grain Filter for avoiding unnecessary accesses to the DRAM cache at reduced hardware cost and we compare it to recent works on die-stacked DRAM caches.

The objective of this study is to investigate the picture book as a form of communication. The investigation comprises both a theoretical and a practical approach. An extensive literature survey was undertaken, publishers interviewed and visits undertaken to process and printing houses to establish the methods and approaches that are currently employed to produce a picture book. The theoretical formulation forms the background and motivation to the practical aspect of the study. The practical component entails the actual conceptualization, design, illustration and publication of a picture book. The possibilities and constraints imposed on the illustrator, comprising all the elements that influence and shape the communication process, are presented and discussed - firstly in theory and then in direct reference to the picture book which is bei:1g illustrated. The theoretical and practical components of this study combine to show up the picture book as a unique art and literary form. The manner in which successful communication is achieved through the effective utilization of all the processes and elements that combine to form the picture book is demonstrated. This study emphasizes that the illustrator should get to know and use all possibilities and restrictions to their full advantage to create an effective, unique interpretation and expression in picture book form. / Thesis (MA (Beeldende Kunste))--PU for CHE
