The instrument in space : the embodiment of music in the machine age

Wilkins, Caroline January 2011 (has links)
The body exists in space and time. It moves through cultural spaces and temporal rhythms. In the combination of instantiated actions and environmental conditions a context is created, this through embodiment. In this thesis I will attempt to link definitions of embodiment with the process of creating and performing new sound theatre works that involve live interaction with media technology. I will also examine terms such as inscription or incorporation and their application to processes of learning and memory within a particular context of inter-disciplinary skills. Finally, in the light of this genre, I will approach the problematic of analytical procedures that change the very parameters of embodied knowledge. The term sound theatre could be defined as a shift of play between music, image and text, incorporating elements such as gesture, choreography, audio and visual technology into a compositional dialogue. However this approach demands a re-examination of the spatial and temporal aspects involved in such inter-activity and their consequent relation to the performer. Taking the starting-point of sound and movement within the body of the performer, my research involves investigations into medial extensions of embodiment that have developed through a discourse with machines. This project takes an essentially practical basis for its research in the form of collaborations with musicians and practitioners of media technology towards a creative product. The result is a series of written compositions, each of which examines a different aspect of sound theatre. The valuable exchange that takes place during such a situation of experimentation becomes equally as important as the final product, providing much of the material framework for issues such as terminology and analytical procedures that concern my investigation.

Esta simples técnica de baixo custo e boa precisão é capaz de detectar a grade de Bragg no espectro da fibra e calcular de forma indireta a temperatura no ponto / Abstract: The recent advances in fiber optics and eletronic circuits has led to the development of many sensors based on fiber optics, with a great emphasis on Fiber Bragg Gratings (FGB) sensors. The FGBs sensors are used to quantify severeal measurands, as temperature, pressure, tension, thermodynamics and electrical current, with good accuracy and resolution. In this projec, a novel low cost technique for interrogating a temperature FBG sensor was developed. The FBG sensor is iluminated with a DFB laser which contains a Thermo Electrical Cooler (TEC) and a thermistor. An eletronic analog circuit controlled by a high-performance 100 MIPS 8051CF120 microcontroller drives the TEC with a controlled current, changing the temperature of the DFB laser and, consequently, changing the wavelength in its output. The FBG temperature measurement is implemented with an algorithm stored in the microcontroller flash memory. When the temperature changes in the FBG, the system has to con-tinuosly track the FBG as it moves around the spectrum due to the temperature variations. This novel simple low-cost and good precision technique for making an all eletronic interrogator for measuring temperature with FBGs sensors was develeped. The unique charecteristic of associating the Bragg shifts with thermistor measured values is the main feature of the proposed interrogation scheme / Mestrado / Eletrônica, Microeletrônica e Optoeletrônica / Mestre em Engenharia Elétrica

Dante, Alex, 1979- 20 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Elnatan Chagas Ferreira / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Elétrica e de Computação / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-20T12:19:42Z (GMT). Some of the most important characteristics of FBGs are: electromagnetic interference (EMI) immunity, light weight, flexibility, and long range information transmission. FBG sensors are being used in the measurement of temperature, deformation, load, strain and vibration. They are also being used in smart structures, where several distributed sensing FBGs are embedded in materials to allow for the real-time monitoring of the structural conditions of bridges, railroad tracks and airplanes. A new technique for the FBGs characterization using deconvolution is presented. In this technique, a tunable FBG, whose reflection spectrum is known, is used to discover another FBGs profile, which is previously unknown. Using low-cost electronic parts and software developed in LabVIEW, which performs the deconvolution of both FBGs spectra, this technique allows the measurement of the FBG reflection spectrum, its FWHM (Full Width at Half Maximum), and the Bragg center wavelength 'lambda'B. The obtained results enables to validate the proposed technique, allowing concluding that it is robust and, if numerical refinement is implemented, it will be possible to build a low-cost FBG characterization device, in comparison with other commercial devices used for this purpose / Mestrado / Eletrônica, Microeletrônica e Optoeletrônica / Mestre em Engenharia Elétrica

Digitaliseringens effekt på revisionsprocessen & affärsmodellen : En studie tillämpad på små revisionsbyråer / The effect of digitization on the audit process & the business model : A study applied to small auditing firms

Krcic, Amina, Shabani, Qëndresa January 2021 (has links)
Today, society is increasingly influenced by the constant development of digitalization. Thisdevelopment includes new digital instruments and processes that change businesses and theirbusiness models. For the auditing industry, automation is added as a complement, which willstreamline the parts of the auditing process and enable auditors to focus more on advice. Thedigital instruments that digitalization entails mean that the smaller auditing firms are exposedto higher costs as the implementation of the tools is costly. Furthermore, not only the cost sideof digitization is affected, but the entire business model of the business. Hence, the purpose ofthe study is to investigate and analyze the extent to which parts of the audit process have beendigitized and the impact of digitization on the business model in small auditing firms. Thestudy's scientific approach is of a deductive nature with semi-structured interviews. The partsof the audit process that were analyzed were planning, review and reporting. During theinvestigation of business models, parts of the business model canvas have been analyzed. These are the following areas that were examined: customer segments, customer relationships, key resources and the revenue and cost structure. The results show that parts of the audit process have been digitized to varying degrees, the planning and review phases have been developed more by the digitization than the reporting has done. However, all parts have been made more efficient due to the digital tools that the agencies have implemented. During the planning phase, information gathering has been facilitated as the availability of information has increased as a result of the internet. During the audit, digital tools, such as analysis tools have facilitated and streamlined the auditors' work, as the tools make it easier to identify risks and deviations. Deviations are found when the auditors perform analysis by sampling from SIE4-files, which are the customer's accounting basis. For the reporting, it is stated that the part is in the middle of the transition regarding digitization. More digital reports are created which are then signed digitally compared to before when all reporting was in paper form.  For the business model, it is established that four of the five selected blocks have been affected by digitization. Digitization has meant that the agencies can now expand their customer segment to other locations as the distances have decreased in the form of data being sent digitally. Furthermore, customer relationships have been strengthened because the auditors are more accessible and can answer customers' questions quickly. The implementation of digital tools has entailed higher costs for the agencies, however, this is compensated by the fact that they bring in more customers. The block that has not been affected by digitalization is the key resources: intangible assets and human capital. Only the tangible assets have been affected as the agencies needed to purchase more equipment.
