Oological Record of Dinosaurs in South-Central Pyrenees (SW Europe): Parataxonomy, diversity and biostratigraphical implications

Garcia Sellés, Albert 22 June 2012 (has links)
Southern Pyrenees has provided an abundant fossil record of dinosaur eggs and eggshells. Historically, the oofamily Megaloolithidae has shown its predominance over any other group of fossil eggs in this region. In addition, this oofamily is world-wide distributed being represented by, at least, four oogenus and 20 oospeices. Considering that the eggshell is a high stable structure, this number of Megaloolithus‘s oospecies is too high for such a relatively short time-interval (Campanian to Maastrichtian; less than 7 My). The structural characters used to define these oospecies are critically revised. As a consequence, three structural groups have been identified, and only ten oospecies have been considered valid. Four of those oospecies have been recognized in Southern Pyrenees: M. aureliensis, M. sirugei, M. mamillare and M. baghensis. The oogenus Cairanoolithus, historically included in Megaloolithidae oofamily, is reevaluated. All evidences suggest that this type of fossil egg is, definitively, different from any other Megaloolithus. Consequently, a new oofamily is erected (Cairanoolithidae oofam. nov), which emphasizes the singularity of cairanoolithid eggs. Phylogenetical analysis also suggests that the eggs of Cairanoolithidae oofam. nov. could be laid by ornithischian dinosaurs. New oological material is described here, including the first spheroolithid oospecies (Spheroolithus oosp. nov.) from the Upper Cretaceous of Europe. Several oospecies of Prismatoolithus (Prismatoolithus oosp. nov, Prismatoolithus cf. levis, Prismatoolithus oosp. indet.) and few eggshells of ratite-morphotype (cf. Ageroolithus fontllonguensis) have been identified. In addition, the great number of specimens attributed to Pseudogeckoolithus oogenus allows re-describing and re-assigning this ootaxon to Mesozoic lizards. The space-temporal variation of the oological diversity in the Southern Pyrenees could be a consequence of environmental changes during the end-Cretaceous or even due to preferences in the nesting-site of each group of dinosaurs. Finally, biostratigraphical studies based on the successions of megaloolithid oospecies have been performed in Coll de Nargó and Àger-Tremp basins, and the European Megaloolithus succession has been updated. As a result, three oozonones have been described: M. aureliensis + Cairanoolithus oozone dates the Late Campanian, M. siruguei oozone the Early Maastrichtian and M. mamillare + M. baghensis oozone the Late Maastrichtian.

Pojetí výuky paleontologie na základních školách / Concept of Paleontology Teaching at Primary Schools

Honskus, Adam January 2018 (has links)
This diploma thesis is focused on the teaching of paleontology and historical geology at the 2nd level of primary school within the educational subject of natural history. The theoretical part summarizes a problematic of paleontology in the Czech Republic, including its historical development, and presents the system of curricular documents of the Czech Republic primarily the Framework Education Program for Elementary Education. The main aim of the thesis is to compile five thematic teaching blocks from historical geology, which can be used in the teaching of natural history at the primary school and in the corresponding levels of multi-year grammar schools. The practical part described the teaching blocks including their methodology and three research surveys thematically aimed to identification of students' interest in paleontology within the blocks, students' ideas about an appearance of the dinosaurs, and their evaluation of dinosaur images from various popular books, feature films and toys. The interest of students in the teaching blocks was evaluated using a questionnaire survey (113 participates). A "correct" appearance of the dinosaurs was studied by comparing drawings of dinosaurs with four characteristic features drawn by 107 pupils. The evaluation of dinosaur images was carried out by...

In this context, the cultural patrimony, particularly, no matter its denomination (historical, artistic, archaeological and paleontological patrimony) or its way of expression (material or non material), deserves the attention from the public politics in a way to excite the local economy, in view of the innovating aspects of the specified way of cultural expression. It comes from the principle in which the acts of the State should focus on the valorization of the human being, excepting the needing of collecting financial resources. This way, the state citizen acts for the improvement or solidification of the public politic which respects and promotes the cultural diversity and the rights to culture. For this reason, we mention topics that need scientific investigation so that to deepen the discussion about the fulfillment of the present Brazilian Constitution, and all the other legal rules that aim the social justice through the rise of culture. In this discussion, it is essential to instigate the new way of economy, especially about the conduct of the cultural patrimony, the reason why the current search, specifically, points out the ideas and actions of the paleontological patrimony Valley of Dinosaurs (Vale dos Dinossauros), located in Sousa, Paraiba, Brazil. It has been verified the integrated ways of the public politics (in particular, those that allow favouring the enjoyment and the sustainable usufruct of this cultural patrimony. Besides, according to studies of this case, it was possible to verify, since a long time ago, the non execution or the disrespect to the laws that foresee the protection of the material patrimony of the search, because of the absence of projects, programs of effective actions for the conservation and valorization of the cultural property, and this, difficultates plans for the tourism and envolvement of the local community and its management, consequently, the aims of human development and cultural citizenship are delayed.

Ekon från det förflutna : En analys av dinosaurieljud inom film / Echoes from the past : An analysis of dinosaur sound in film

Wassberg, John January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to critically question what Michel Chion calls the audiovisual contract and research how it works in different contexts within the world of film. As well as increasing the understanding of how sound, image and documentary elements affect us to accept what we see in films and series. The focus will be on dinosaurs as there is nothing that can confirm what it looked like or sounded like. As a basis for this research, the work of sound designers will be taken into account as well as methods that Bill Nichols wrote about, which are used in film. Areas of focus will be authenticity and sound from an audiovisual perspective.
