Stolthet och skvaller : En komparativ analys mellan Jane Austens Stolthet och fördom och Curtis Sittenfelds Sanning och skvaller / Pride and gossip : A comparative analysis of Jane Austen's Stolthet och fördom and Curtis Sittenfeld's Sanning och skvaller

Larsson, Johanna January 2019 (has links)
This essay analyses Curtis Sittenfeld’s novel Sanning och Skvaller as an adaption of Jane Austen’s Stolthet och fördom. The purpose of this essay is to take a closer look at how the characters and the plot changes in Sittenfeld’s version compared to the original. The character analysis mainly focuses on Mr. Wickham, lady Catherine de Bourgh and Caroline Bingley as characters, as well as Mary Bennet and how her sexuality is portrayed. Elizabeth Bennet’s relationship with Mr. Darcy and the importance of a proposal and a marriage is also something that this essay analyses. The reception of the novel is something that will be addressed by highlighting some of the negative, and positive, reviews that the novel received upon publication. The discussion at the end brings up whether or not Sittenfelds novel can be classified as an adaption after changing so much of the story, how the elements in the new version changes its believability and how the problematic aspects may ruin the story.

An Analysis of the Participant Selection Process Under the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act: Texas and Louisiana

Drake, William D. (William Daniel), 1950- 05 1900 (has links)
Federal guidelines required prime sponsors under the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act, or CETA, to serve the "significant segments" of the eligible population. This study analyzes whether prime sponsors in Texas and Louisiana correctly identified and served those segments. This study finds that eligible ethnic groups were properly identified and were served equitably; age and gender distinctions, however, were inadequately observed in the providing of services.

An evaluation of the isoniazid preventive therapy initiation in Limpopo province

Khota, Mmankhuma Joyce 11 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the Isoniazid preventive therapy (IPT) initiation amongst eligible HIV positive patients at health facilities in the Polokwane subdistrict to identify key features in the knowledge and practice of health professionals as well as available resources at the health facilities. A quantitative non-experimental, descriptive, cross-sectional design was used to describe the practice of IPT initiation in health facilities. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire with medical doctors, operational managers and registered nurses from the district’s 34 health care facilities. The census sample was 124. Data were captured and analysed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 24. The results showed that the health care professionals knew the policy and procedures for the implementation of IPT but lacked knowledge on patient screening. The findings further suggest that record keeping and data capturing was not implemented sufficiently. Resources at the facilities were found to be sufficient. / Health Studies / M. P. H.

Factors contributing to non-initiation of ART amongst eligible pre-ART patients in rural clinics in Swaziland

Gwebu-Storer, Nosipho Nontsikelelo 02 1900 (has links)
AIM The purpose of this study was to explore and describe factors that contribute to the non-initiation of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) amongst Pre-Antiretroviral Therapy eligible patients and to make recommendations for health care workers to enhance early initiation of pre-ART-eligible patients for primary health care facilities in Swaziland. METHOD A qualitative design was applied in rural primary health care (PHC) facilities in the Hhohho region of Swaziland. The target population for this study included nurses who have successfully completed the National Nurse Led Antiretroviral Therapy Initiation in Swaziland (NARTIS) training, and who actively initiated ART to eligible patients in rural PHC facilities. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews and field notes. Purposive, convenient sampling was applied. Eleven respondents were interviewed for the study, and data was collected until data saturation was reached. Data from transcripts and field notes was analysed and categorised with thematic analysis through Tesch’s open coding process. RESULTS The study identified the following three predominant themes: 1) systematic enablers of prompt ART initiation, 2) barriers to prompt ART initiation, 3) sources of support. Categories included public health care (PHC) factors, community level factors, the interdependence of the health care system, patient centred barriers, individual patient agency, and NARTIS nurse support. CONCLUSION The recommendations for health care workers that emerged from the study included continued HIV treatment scale-up and decentralisation to grass roots levels, aggressive treatment prioritisation among pre-ART patients, building the capacity of the local health care system and continued research initiatives. It is hoped that recommendations emerging from the findings of this study will have positive implications for programming and practice regarding the initiation of ART for eligible pre-ART patients in Swaziland. / Health Studies / M.
