Impactos da mineração de areia em planícies fluviais meândricas da bacia hidrográfica do Alto Tietê: o caso do rio Embu Guaçu, São Paulo - SP / The geomorphological knowledge about physical meandering systems and pursuits the understanding of the anthropic activities effects on the Alto Tietê: the case of the Embu-Guaçu river, in the southern sectin Sao Paulo county

João Claudio Estaiano 19 December 2007 (has links)
This study presents the geomorphological knowledge about physical meandering systems and pursuits the understanding of the anthropic activities effects on these physical systems, so characterizing one of the main principles of a anthropogeomorphology and anthropogenic geomorphology. The main purpose of this research was the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the modifications performed by sand mining activities in a fluvial compartment of the meandering floodplain of the Embu-Guaçu river, in the southern sectin Sao Paulo county. This study was performed with the application of evolutionary geomorphological cartography mapping as analytical tool for the physical system conditions in a preintervention situation and after 22 year of sand extraction (state during intervention). Two detailed geomorphological maps were produced: one refers to 1981 and presents the original morphology and the other to 2003 including the anthropogenic morphology. The selection and representation of forms, materials and processes included in geomorphological maps as well as the comparative analysis were based upon a series of geoindicators considered as qualitative and quantitative interpretation parameters.

A comparative analysis of upper and lower quartile academic achievers' study habits in secondary schools in Embu County, Kenya

Njue, Francis Manyatta 02 1900 (has links)
The main purpose of this study was to investigate the differential levels of study habits between upper and lower academic achievers in secondary school in Embu County, Kenya. The study explored the current literature related to the study and carried out an empirical investigation towards this end. The target population for the study comprised all Form 4 secondary school students in all public secondary schools in Embu County. The student study samples were drawn from 50 out of 156 public secondary schools in the County. Students were drawn from both county and district level of secondary schools. Purposive sampling was used to select the uppermost and lowermost academic achivers over a period of two preceding years. Data was collected by using differently marked questionnaires for prio-determined uppermost and lowermost academic achievement groups of respondents. Each questionnaire comprised of four sections: Bio-demographic information, study habits, internal locus of control and self-efficacy. Self-efficacy and locus of control are some of the covert study habits. Data collected was analysed using descriptive statistics (percentages, means, distribution, and standard deviation) and inferential statistics especially analysis of variance (ANOVA). A pilot study was undertaken to check and enhance on the validity and reliability of the research instruments before commencement of the actual research study. Data was presented in tables, bar and linear graphs. Findings indicated that the upper quartile achievers had higher scores in internal locus of control but not study habits and self-efficacy. Students at lower level of achievement performance reported stronger study habits and self-efficacy compared to their upper performance counterparts. Bio-demographic factors (age, gender, school level, residential status) had very little, if any, influence on students level of study habits, self- efficacy and internal locus of control. The study recommended that stakeholders especially parents, teachers and other significant members of the community should endeavour to help students acquire and develop strong internal locus of control in order to be able to actualize their study habits and self-efficacy to attain higher academic performance and achievement as would be expected of students reporting such levels in study habits and self-efficacy in academic environment. / Educational Psychology / D. Caracterização geocronológica (U-Pb), geoquímica e isotópica (Sr, Nd, Hf) do complexo Rio Capivari no terreno Embu / not available

Maurer, Victor Câmara 28 March 2016 (has links)
The Rio Capivari Complex (RCC) comprises migmatitic orthogneisses with granitic to tonalitic compositions and subordinate amphibolites (tholeiitic magmas), that occur in tectonics contacts within the Embu Terrane. The RCC orthogneisses are predominantly calc-alkaline to alkali-calcic. U-Pb zircon ages obtained on oscillatory zoned zircon cores indicate protolith magmatic crystallization into three main periods 2.4, 2.2-2.1 and 2.0 Ga. CL-dark zircon rims yield dates between 620-590 Ma, interpreted as metamorphic overprinting. The Siderian suite (2.4 Ga) show juvenile character, as evidenced by positive \'\'épsilon\'\'IND.Nd(t)\' (+3.8) and \'\'épsilon\'\'IND.Hf(t)\' (+0.3 to +4.8) values and absence of inherited zircon grains, commonly found in reworking crustal rocks. The Rhyacian suite (2.2-2.1 Ga) has Archean model ages (\'T IND.DM\' = 2.6-3.3 Ga), negative values of \'\'épsilon\'\'IND.Nd(t)\' (-12.0 to -4.0) and negative to slightly positive \'\'épsilon\'\'IND.Hf(t)\' values (-7.8 to +0.5). Therefore, such rocks most likely derived from reworking of older crustal reservoirs. The Orosirian suite (2.0 Ga) has even older sources with strongly negative \'\'épsilon\'\'IND.Nd(t)\' (-10.4) and \'\'épsilon\'\'IND.Hf(t)\' (-1.2 to -13.6) suggesting prolonged crustal residence time with \'T IND.DM\' and \'T IND.HF\' > 3.3 Ga. Whole-rock trace element and zircon chemistry indicate mafic sources for the Siderian suite. Middle crust reservoirs, at varying depths, appear to be the main source of the Rhyacian and Orosirian suites. According to analysis in discriminating tectonic diagrams the whole rock trace elements with high ratios \'La/Yb IND.(N)\' (> 10), Nb/Yb (> 2) and Th/Yb (> 1), added to the amounts of \'Y IND.2\'\'O IND.3\' (<3,000 ppm), U/Yb (> 0.5) and Nb/Yb (0.01 to 0.10) from zircon chemistry, suggest that all three suites were generated on continental magmatic arc environments, but with a gap of 200-300 Ma between the Siderian suite and the Rhyacian and Orosirian suites without data or geological information. Comparative multi-elements profiles (trace elements) between representation of typical continental arc samples associated with the oceanic crust subduction (Andean margin) and samples of island arcs (Mariana Islands) confirm affinity with continental arc environment for the RCC, associated with subduction oceanic plate, mainly for the Siderian suite. In spite of the small dataset, the results of this study indicate a juvenile accretion at 2.4 Ga, what suggests a continuous dynamic of continental crust evolution. The RCC role on the tectonic evolution of the Embu terrane remains enigmatic. The isotopic data \'\'épsilon\'\'IND.Nd(590)\' and \'ANTPOT.87 Sr\'/\'ANTPOT.88 Sr(i)\' of the RCC (-27.3 to -19.7 and 0.704-0.722, respectively) indicate an evolution not compatible with the sources for the Ediacaran granites of the Embu Terrane, requiring the participation of more primitive reservoirs (\'\'épsilon\'\'IND.Nd(590)\' -13 to -7) (ANTPOT.87 Sr\'/\'ANTPOT.88 Sr(i)\'\'QUASE IGUAL A\' 0.710).

Avaliação do habitat e das assembléias de macroinvertebrados bentônicos de riachos em uma área de proteção ambiental / Assessment of habitat and benthic macroinvertebrate assemblages of streams in an Environmental Protection Area

Bispo, Daniel da Silva 23 August 2013 (has links)
A diversidade e riqueza de família aumentaram com a estabilidade dos substratos inorgânicos / Headwater streams are relevant suppliers of water, sediment, and biota. They support low autochthonous primary productivity and suffer strong influence from riparian vegetation as in these streams the basic energy for communities maintenance has its origin in the allochthonous particulate organic matter. Hence, deforestation and inadequate soil use negatively affect stream conditions, being among the main causes of environmental degradation in developing nations. A rapid assessment of the physical habitat quality can provide a general idea about stream conditions and detect anthropic changes in a rapid, easy and low cost manner. The combination of this tool with the assessment of other physical, chemical and biological features, especially the benthic macroinvertebrate assemblage composition, is essential to the development of monitoring strategies in those ecosystems. The general aim of this study was to identify the main anthropic changes on streams of Environmental Protection Area Embu Verde and to select those with better habitat conditions for benthic fauna. So it would be possible to know the assemblages composition and its relation with the habitat. First we evaluated 23 sampling sites using a Habitat Assessment Protocol and some relevant variables. Therewith we selected four streams, grounded primarily on the similarity of the surroundings features, little variation on the environmental degradation level and potential of habitats to macroinvertebrates. Then we made an assessment of stream riparian vegetation and substrate types to improve the understanding of the relation between macroinvertebrates and the physical environment. The major anthropic change in the sampling area is the deforestation of the natural riparian cover, and we observed evidences of its negative effects on streams, as bank erosion and fine sediment deposition. Variables that better explained fauna variations are related to the stream size, water kinetic energy and substrate types. Substrate was determinant to the composition of benthic macroinvertebrate assemblages as these ones variate more with the substrates types than with the sampling sites. Chironomidae dominated in all the sampling sites and substrate types. Family diversity and richness increased with the stability of inorganic substrates

The Metropolitan Area of São Paulo (RMSP) has expanded itself in a chaotic way, since the second half of the XX century. This study analyses the impacts upon the city of Embu das Artes, through the process of expansion of that Metropolitan Area. Throughout the formation of its area, the city has gone through several alterations related to space, society and economy and in the last 40 years there has been an exponential increase of population and a chaotic urbanization process and transformation of the urban scenery, changing the urban space into commodity. Embu das Artes which was a small and irrelevant city at the beginning of the XX century transformed itself in a region of vital importance for the economy of São Paulo state. The result for the city is deep social and economic changes, alterations in the geographical and urban space, changes in the processes of propriety and occupation of spaces which were transformed in merchandise and the coming of new functions. For this study, some bibliographical and documental researches were performed and the approach of the research was qualitative with exploring researches.

Self-concept, inner residue of past relationships and current social functioning. : A study of age and gender differences in normal and antisocial adolescents.

Östgård-Ybrandt, Helene January 2004 (has links)
This thesis presents several studies of normative development in adolescence, focusing specifically on internalized perceptions of parents’ early behavior and how these perceptions affect the self-concept and social functioning during. Questions of possible age and gender differences in relation to perceptions of self-concept and early parental behavior are addressed. The patterns found in a normal adolescent group are compared with those in a group of adolescents with antisocial problems. Two hundred seventy-seven normal adolescents aged 12 to18 and 30 adolescents with antisocial problems aged 13-19 were investigated. The following self-administered instruments were used: self-concept assessments, the Structural Analysis of Social Behavior (SASB) introject questionnaire, perception of early parental behavior assessment, the SASB mother/father questionnaires, and the EMBU (A Swedish acronym for “own memories of upbringing”). The Youth Self Report checklist (YSR) was used to assess internalizing and externalizing problems. Studies I and II showed that the normal adolescent self-concept and perception of early parental behavior were positive and that there were no age or gender differences. The antisocial group of adolescents, and particularly the antisocial girls, showed a more autonomous and negative self-concept and more negative perceptions of early parental behaviors. Study III showed that a positive self-concept was related to a positive perception of parent’s early behavior. Study IV showed that an adolescent’s positive self-concept was influenced by a mix of mother acting positively and father acting with control. Adolescent self-control was indirectly influenced by parental control behavior mediated through self-affiliation. Study V showed that a positive self-concept was important for adjustment. A negative self-concept combined with female gender was a risk factor for internalizing problems. Self-control had only a small effect on social adjustment in adolescence. The relationship between a negative self-concept and externalizing problem behavior was stronger for adolescents aged 15 to 16 than for younger or older adolescents. Internalizing problem behavior influenced externalizing problems. The results presented in this thesis support a modified “storm-and-stress” view of adolescence and highlight the importance of promoting a positive self-concept in every adolescent in various psychosocial contexts.
