Emotionellt beslutsfattande : En kvalitativ studie om behandlingspedagogers beslutsfattande / Emotional decision -making : A qualitative study of treatment educators’ decision- making

El Harbiti, Deeb January 2023 (has links)
Abstrakt The violence within the state's institutional board is extensive and affects both staff and young people. The State Board of Institutions has attracted a lot of attention in the media and several reports and articles have described the problem. The State Board of Institutions is an authority that provides compulsory care for adult addicts and young people. The problems within the state's institutional board will not be solved by themselves. The violence seems to be escalating and something must be done. An important part of the work is decision-making. Every situation requires decision making and even when no decision is made it is decision making. The purpose of the essay is to examine the emotional decision-making within the state's institutional board. Qualitative interviews have been chosen as the method. These consisted of two focus groups with follow-up interviews. The previous research consists of research on the state's institutional board, a research on social workers and one on decision-making. The theory consists of Hochschild's emotional work and theoretical concepts from it. Important conclusions in the work are that emotional decision-making is highly individual and is based on one's own reason. Important factors for the treatment educators' emotional decision-making are the immediate supervisor, young people, colleagues, knowledge of and trust in methods. There are points of contact with the theory, mainly when it comes to the profession and professional role.

THE PRICE TAG OF STIGMA: THE EMOTIONAL AND AESTHETIC LABOR OF BODY-POSITIVE BRANDING IN PLUS-SIZE RETAIL

Pospisil, Kendra 01 August 2023 (has links) (PDF)
This project asks how fat stigma impacts customers' and retail workers' experiences shopping and working in plus-size clothing stores. Interview data highlight how customers and workers engage in emotional labor, emotion work, and aesthetic labor to manage emotions about the body and fat stigma. Moreso, it explores the commercialization of the body-positivity movement by analyzing the use of body-positive branding and marketing. A content analysis explores the website and social media presence of a contemporary plus-size store, Torrid, which is an example of a company engaging in body-positive branding and marketing. While results vary between the main website and social media accounts, they reveal that Torrid engages with customers in an inclusive body-positive tone and with intimate/friendly language via their marketing; however, Torrid does not fulfil its body-positive intentions when it comes to body and size inclusivity of its models. Interview data also highlight that customers do not find plus-size retail stores to be inclusive and body-positive spaces. Customers report they lack physical accessibility, affordable clothing, stock of extended sizes, or clothing for individuals with diverse gender identities. Customers and workers engage in emotion work, emotional labor, and aesthetic labor to negotiate between style, affordability, and accessibility.

“Var ska man annars gå?” : En kvalitativ studie av folkbibliotekariers upplevelser av medborgarärenden

Fedko, Milton, Stenlund, Kaj January 2024 (has links)

Linking Active to Passive Representation in State Bureaucracies and Legislative Committees: An Examination of Gender Representation and State Domestic Violence Policies

Rauhaus, Beth M 12 May 2012 (has links)
My dissertation examines gender representation in both bureaucratic agencies and standing legislative committees focusing on Corrections and Human or Social Services in eleven southern states. By examining individual public officials in both regulatory and redistributive agencies and committees, I am able to determine if active representation of women’s issues is occurring and how this impacts the policy development and implementation of domestic violence programs. Theoretical models used in examining the linkage between passive and active representation often incorporate the values and actions of public officials. The ethic of care is a theoretical approach that argues that gender differences may arise in terms of moral evaluations, perceptions of responsibilities, and the development of relationships. Therefore, care is used as a value and action in this study for two reasons. First, women’s issues, such as domestic violence, require an ethic of care to be used in assisting vulnerable populations, as victims’ needs should be addressed with care and concern. Secondly, contemporary scholarship in governance argues that emotional labor is prevalent among public officials, which suggests that care can instrumentally improve governance. This study uses a mixed method approach. Quantitative analysis explains the linkage of passive and active representation in legislative bodies. Survey instruments completed by legislators provided information on policy preferences, emotional labor, legislative responsibilities and political environment. Qualitative methods are used to develop a case study examining the link in representation in three southern state bureaucratic agencies. Administrators from these agencies were interviewed to explore their responsibilities, their ability to use care or exert emotional labor and represent women’s issues. Due to the lack of passive representation, in terms of female representation in southern governments, active representation is not reached in many units studied. However, regulatory agencies exhibit signs of active representation and the use of care and emotions in serving vulnerable populations. This study contributes to our understanding of female representation in the south as well as the impact politics have on the policy process.
